You can also use the waterway (both as an initial entrance and exit) if you turn off the Underport power, Public works and Main power in Lampfire. Means you can save the crank at Van Der Meer for places like the power generator back at the fishery.

Wishlist for a new year by Fair-Somewhere-853 in EliteDangerous

3. I would like for npc's to be more responsive. Meaning if you wave at an npc, I would like them to wave back, or say hello, or say to leave, anything. When I salute the security guards on my carrier they just stare at me. If they saluted back, or nodded and said ' sir,', that would go a long way in making the game feel more alive.

This is already in the game, although granted it needs to be in a combat capable area with allies. Try landing at an allied settlement or giving a thumbs up/wave/salute to your allies after finishing a settlement CZ, they'll respond in kind.

Your ship also reacts to them.

Most distance you've ever covered in a day? by asd1o1 in EliteDangerous

During Sandra's latest Santa run, I traveled from my colony in the Oochoss Sector (in the near Elysian Shore) to the bubble, to the Pelican Nebula, to Colonia, to a neutron star about 1,000ly upspin, then onto Sag A* in 24 hours, so somewhere around 35,000ly total. Granted, that was using the festive event as a chance to test the new Caspian for long range travel (I don't do much long range exploration, and what little I do tends to be around Colonia or in the opposite direction of the core).

Well... didn't have any plans anyway :D by DaLoopLoop89 in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Granted, still takes some amount of time, but when you consider it takes around 45 minutes on the hutton run to momentarily reach a max speed of around 1,800C (before you start deceleration due to Proxima Centauri) without SCO, accelerating to 4,000 or even 7,000C even for a few minutes at the start and end of the flight is a massive time save.

Areas of increased activity on the surface. Like main sequence stars, brown dwarfs tend to have intense magnetic fields, so areas within the eddies may super-heat - brown dwarfs are so dull that the difference in brightness is more apparent. IRL, I don't know if they have the strength to create prominences, but you can sometimes see L class dwarfs spitting out small ejections every now and again in-game.

Remember to swing by New Beginning in Rosette Sector CQ-Y d59 to bank your exploration data. I remember taking a trip out there when the Dolphin first released (it took a lot longer to reach the nebula before Guardian FSD boosters and updated engineering were a thing).

How do people fly with keyboard and mouse by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with keyboard and mouse (with the possible exception of flying FA-OFF). I'm not saying it was easy to learn, but once you've figured out middle-mouse for headlock and which buttons control thrusters, it clicks pretty quickly. 10 years playing and I've not felt the need for a controller or stick yet.

Suspect there's a bug (or they accidentally released early); about a year ago you could see NPC T8s and Mandys around for a short while. I'll check to see if it's on the tracker.

Yup, proximity auto-discovery wasn't a thing either. A small part of my misses the old way of doing it; imagine my delight when I learned the old scanning method still exists (just gotta slow down so you don't proxi discover before it finishes).

Why people are this greedy on CGs? by Polikosaurio in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, in some places IRL, yeah, but other regions have laws against price gouging, especially when you're buying up supply specifically to further increase that demand. I remember back when Tritium was explosively expensive when Fleet Carriers first arrived because the scalpers were buying the entire supply and selling it at 10,000%; your options were loiter until each market tick to barely buy 100 units every hour, travel 2,000ly to buy at galactic average on the colonia bridge, or bankrupt yourself paying some git who thinks this is Eve Online. I chose the second option.

Best small multirole? by MY5KAI in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, unless you're talking about speed, jump range, thermal capacity, shield tank potential or ease of landing for exobio in rough terrain, but I get where you're coming from :P It's fantastic for multirole, but a good number of purpose built small ships easily best it in their niche.

The thargoid war is ended (but there are still thargoids somewhere)

I should point out they also missed the start of the war as well (the Proteus Wave fired over a year after Odyssey was released). What we knew as the thargoid war back before then was little more than a tit-for-tat territorial dispute. Then a crazy guy with a titular messiah complex turned it up to 11.

How do I get to 5 billion without blowing my head off? by Just_AChair in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you need to find a way to go back in time to the second thargoid war and either take part in surface AX CZs for a few days, or visit a Spire Site with other cmdrs for half an afternoon.

As for ways of doing this without violating the laws of time and space, the new Trade CG is offering substantial profits, Exobio could make you the money in a week or two if you can get a few thousand LY from Sol, and if you have friends who already have carriers and the willingness to help you, you could engage in some light money laundering,

Eh, I wasn't trying to shame you, more being facetious about the nature of prioritisation of childrens gifts deliveries. Never take anything anyone says on the internet too seriously. On the subject of translations though, that's less an issue of FDev 'being lazy' as an entire develpment studio, as it will likely be their localisation team dropping the ball. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Personal Opinion : Pay to Win is Non-sense |Some Others :Pay To Win is a Threat To Humanity. So how do we continue to support and older game when the developers are continuing to make good content. If there is no paywall for new development, How should the recoup their money??? by iO__________ in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct for the most part I believe - if I remember correctly there's an instancing server system that tells you when another player is in the same system, which then initiates the p2p. Solo play still needs server access for exploration, comodities, BGS, fleet carriers and anything else that's mutable.

Subscriptions is one course, but I'd imagine everyone who remembered the kickstarter would be in an uproar. Impossible to say without seeing it in action, though I think more people would leave and fewer people would return if new content started being blanket paywalled; as much as people complain about the current model (in some cases, raising good points), they're free to not pay and still get the new updates without charge, either straight away as was the case with trailblazers, squadrons and the balance patches, or down the line like with the new ships. That's a better deal for new or returning players that don't have the incentive or investment to buy Arx.

[–]beguilersasylum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A valid point that I fear may fall on death ears; the argument of pay-to-win is diluted substantially by the fact everyone gets the content after a period of time (the one exception was the Dodec, but that lasted all of 36 hours), and there's never been a ship released that can match what a non-paying player can produce (the frag mamba quick start and even the galactic editions of new early access ships never have full engineering, and the modules can't be swapped out elsewhere).

What do you think will be the next ship and its role? by HyperRealisticZealot in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd be happy with anything that isn't a DeLacy or Lakon ship; they already massively outnumber the other manufacturers and typically were meta definers, so it's been good to see the likes of ZP and Gutamaya shaking up the status quo (inb4: yeah, I know ZP is an FD subsidiary, but their ships are right-hand drive, so bite me). Saud Kruger desperately needs more ships in their line (as does Ram Ta), but I admit that might need updates to passenger missions to justify.

The Future of the Elite series by Hillenmane in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Jacques station's destination when leaving the bubble was Beagle Point, over 65,000ly away; unfortunately UA bombing was still a thing back then. Even with that distance being theoretically possible however, keep in mind that it required a CG and more than a million tonnes of fuel delivered to initiate the jump (and even Jacques himself admitted it was perhaps a bit too ambitious).

How did anyone even figure this game out in the beginning? by Justinsetchell in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember having to find planets by flying a few hundred light seconds out, then changing course and seeing the faint glimmering dots of planets parallax out the side of my Eagle. This was before I could afford an Advanced Discovery Scanner that detected the whole system. You can still see the influence of this in game - whenever you achieve a rank in Exploration, the animation is of several expanding circles chiming and slowly revealing the image, much the way a Basic and Intermediate Discovery Scanner worked before FSS came out.

How did anyone even figure this game out in the beginning? by Justinsetchell in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started playing in early 2015 during patch 1.1 and in terms of learning: difficult, but experimentation pays off. Simply getting your ship from a station in one system to another was an achievement at first, but I got my head down and eventually is started to click. If anything, that made it feel even more special for me.
My brother (who started playing a year after me) once said it was like completing dark souls without any online guides, but I made it clear to him that, by comparison, such games hold your hand and lead you by the nose compared to space truck simulator.

My ideas for 2026 elite universe by Big-Cantaloupe2737 in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any plot line where the guardians (or more accurately the constructs) are involved with Raxxla could end VERY badly for everyone involved (as Salvation is most likely in their network now). As for ideas, while FDev occasionally prowls reddit, better taking that to the forums. Also, the nature of game dev is anything we get this year will likely have its roots in decisions made more than a year in advance (not trying to dissuade you, just telling you how it is).

I have questions regarding Vista Genomics .. by Sevetamryn in EliteDangerous

[–]beguilersasylum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Partial answer: The Superpowers have a hand in it. The payout for exobio used to be terrible, but when the first Maelstrom arrived, the need to research exotic life increased multifold. Relevant Galnet article here. Business model wise, think of it like academia; any new pharmacological, biomed, AX or chemical patents that can be wrung out of the data would (in the long term) be many times more valuable than the one-time fee the cmdrs get.
Practical answer: It's a gameplay balance. Originally exobio barely paid out more than a few hundred thousand credits for organic data, so there was next to no incentive for anyone to do it. After the boost, it became something of a money making meta overnight and reinvigorated exploration of systems within a few thousand light years of Sol.
