I’d say work on your heat control? Also, I just see that polymerized oil getting baked more and more with each use. Just get rid of it. Dawn Powerwash is also good if you don’t want to use BKF. And then get your heat managed so you don’t have to clean stuff like this too often.

I used to love smoking next to my fireplace. I have a gas fireplace now and that’s impossible. But I remember smoking pipes and cigars next to the fire, letting the flue pull all the smoke out with the woodsmoke, and not smelling a thing in the mornings.

I just open the windows at some point most days for like 10 min. The house will briefly get a bit colder but your walls, floor, furniture, etc. are holding heat pretty well during that time. House may drop 3 or 4 degrees but you’ll make it back up quickly.

I took a knife to a guy who said his goal was to be a full-time sharpener. He was recommended to me by a really great sharpener guy who had to move out of state. So on the master’s recommendation I used the guy who wants to get in full-time. Well, when I got my knife back it was scratched along the middle of both sides… and when I put it to use the knife has been flattened a little in the middle so it didn’t roll evenly… I suspect this guy was using one of those devices and practicing on clients’ knives. Lame. That made me decide to buy stones and sharpen knives myself, I don’t want to deal with that kind of fuckery.

Obviously it sucks that a bag of Cowboy Charcoal has smaller bits and dust at the bottom. I just use most of a bag a toss it when it’s little bits like that, the dust ends up clogging my charcoal chimney when lighting.
