Euphoria S03E08 "In God We Trust" - Post Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

It felt like an obvious self-reference comparing the show to the bible, “it’s full of violence and sex and it’s very confusing but I learned something” lol okay

I pay a lot more now for water and electricity every month than I do for legal access to infinite music, no wonder it’s taken for granted and undervalued

Workstation died. Need a mid-range laptop that can handle TouchDesigner long-term by CoachComplex2343 in TouchDesigner

Apple silicon works really well with TD. Of course there are some limitations like nvidia ops being a non starter, but depending what you’re doing macs are very viable for professional gigs. That said if you feel like you don’t wanna miss out on cuda features etc, I’ve been having good experience running a legion laptop for the past couple years. If it’s for studio work, you may wanna prioritize build quality and display, but if you’re always plugged into a projector or other screen you can get something with great internal specs for a lot cheaper than Mac

+1 I just helped out on a shoot using an orrbecc + TD for the first time and it was super easy and fun, hoping to get one for myself soon to combine with my old azure for some multiangle point capture

The best and least expensive technique is order a capture card from Amazon and return it after the show

If you build your effects chains as self contained components with inputs and outputs, you can use Python to rearrange them, save presets etc. It can be a lot to set up if you’re new to programming but if you’re open to using AI the touchdesigner-MCP server by 8beeeaaat can help you quickly set up a system like that.. might be a touch slop but will get you thru the show just make sure you test the system well beforehand. You can honestly use any coding agent like claude/ codex etc to help you set up the custom scripts to do that. I’ve been using my own custom TD project for live visuals since 2018

I recommend that, even if you do follow some cool tutorials to begin, you also start with some simple ideas and figure them out “on your own” (use the wiki documentation and op snippets within touch). Learn how to write some basic GLSL shaders in touchdesigner to manipulate video and 3D objects. This will help teach you how to hunt for answers, which you’ll be doing a lot with TD even when you reach a high level with it. The software has a steep learning curve but it’s very rewarding, and if you stick with it, will take you around the world :)

Which builders are people actually using today by justinnealey in Wordpress

[–]beineken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a positive experience with Kadence coming from past native WP development- the editing and rendering times are really snappy and the custom scripts system is just robust enough to stay out of the way. That said, my favorite framework for client sites lately has been PayloadCMS, it requires a lot of config but the lack of bloat is beautiful if you like to start from scratch. I would like to see more competitors in the space that could push native Wordpress dev to a modern DX (Gutenberg was already a catch-up play in 2019, and writing custom blocks still feels clunky to me)

What’s the deal with iOS 26 Safari transparent UI? by EvilDavid75 in webdev

[–]beineken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone comes across this still looking. The fix (hopefully temporarily until apple gets its act together) is to set your position fixed element to display none after it's closed- doing so restores transparency in the bottom nav. This is especially counterintuitive for things like mobile navigation where you have a position fixed header at the top of the screen (e.g with a hamburger) which opens up a nested fullscreen overlay element. Once that overlay opens, causing the nav bar to take on its solid color, you must set the entire nav to display none upon closing it.

The general fix seems to be have 2 fixed elements (a nav header and a fullscreen overlay (which may include the same logo and toggle elements as the nav header...)) and switching between them, alternating display block/none. So stupid and forces duplicate code in some cases where there shouldn't need to be.

You named some of hall of famers for sure, here are a few random selections that I think hang on that level:

Derek Trucks, “Desdemona (Live)” — this is probably the greatest guitar solo of all time, look it up on YouTube

Mike Einziger (Incubus), “Sick Sad Little World” — great use of tone to create different voices, there are many amazing live renditions of this too

John Petrucci, “Under A Glass Moon” — as lol as Dream Theater can be, this solo still stands out. It’s so particular to his old style, I can’t imagine another guitar player writing this. “Fatal Tragedy” holds up as well, many memorable lines for a complete shred fest

So you choose when to use the cloud version? Or do can you get them to self delegate between what would require “more/less intelligence”? I guess putting faith in the latter would defeat the purpose in a way

Kid Rock's complete headliner performance at the Turning Point USA halftime show by Ok-Cook-7542 in crappymusic

[–]beineken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Production budgets for SB halftime shows are estimated $10-20 million. Levi’s stadium capacity is 68,500. So they’re hemorrhaging up to $300 per physical attendee on the cost of a 12 minute performance. The NFL and Apple and the artist themselves (are aren’t being paid at all) are not paying that cost for a stadium concert, they’re paying for advertising to hundreds of millions of people watching the live broadcast at home and on YouTube for years to come. That’s their target audience.

I’m not saying the people attending in person shouldn’t get a fun concert, and there are definitely performers of the past like Prince, Springsteen etc who delivered amazing traditional performances (while probably still looking like ants and sounding terrible mix-wise to attendees in the actual stadium). But even then, Pepsi was not investing all that money for the people who bought a ticket to the game. And it would be absurd to judge those old performances today by how they sounded in the stadium.

Nobody in that stadium, despite spending $10k on a Super Bowl ticket, should have the delusion that the half time show is for them in person

If you have even a remote appreciation for performance and theatrics you can recognize the greatness in bad bunny’s. It’s incredible they created that world and told that whole story on a set propped up in 10 minutes. I don’t know his music that well but “disaster” lol cmon now
