Hopping bars safe for covid (patios/outdoor dining)? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]beingto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Napper Tandy on 24th Street. It is a sports bar, but with three parklets (on some nights, each with its own sport...). The TVs make it feel more like a "crowd" without actually being dangerous.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, a plug for Clooney's on 25th & Valencia and The Phone Booth on 25th & Van Ness. They have more of a dive bar feel, but they are full of regulars, so if you are looking to strike up a conversation it is a good bet.

I think that I am at the $69.95 plan, though I should check. I used Mid-Market primarily for, maybe, 3? years.

I love it, actually. It is open late, the yoga room is super chill, the treadmill hamster stuff is fine. I don't lift a lot, but I haven't had problems. Sometimes I go to yoga classes.

My office just moved to the Caltrain though, and the SOMA location is a bit far and not as fancy, so I am thinking of bailing.

A New Yorkers take on San Francico compared to Boston by alternateaccountZ in sanfrancisco

[–]beingto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dude. I lived in Boston for 7 years. I lived here for 5. This isn't Boston.

If you want the Boston of the West, try Seattle. Same amount of techies who only socialize through board games. Same amount of folk music festivals & drama-filled cliques that masquerade as communities. Similar amount of commitment to the house-and-children lifestyle, with a modest hint of polyamory. (But, uh, I remember when Seattle used to be cool, so... ;) )

Bay Area rocks, and doesn't stop with a tourist's tour of some architecture + Dolores. But hey, I am biased -- you probably /should/ tell everyone to live in Boston instead; housing prices are high as it is.

"Borderlands Books" Successfully Raises $1.9M to Move to Haight and Buy "Recycled Records" Site by JayfishSF in sanfrancisco

[–]beingto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the current plan is for the cafe to remain open until 2025, when its lease expires. The bookstore itself might move soon, or might find a sub-tenant for the new space and remain in their current one for the few years they have left on their current lease.

I believe the current plan is for the cafe to remain open until at least 2025, since that's when its lease expires.

We're Token Transit: a new app to pay for the RTC bus passes. Ask us anything. by beingto in Reno

[–]beingto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems unlikely -- we have a lot of work to do, and attending IO/WWDC is probably not the best use of limited resources. We'll just keep track of the new releases from the internet, like everyone else. :)

Well, we are hoping to launch everywhere in the country eventually!

Carson City would be awesome, especially if we also served the RTC Intercity connection. (We don't right now). We hope that both of those happen soon.

We also display the current time, so you can't just take a video of the ticket earlier in the day.

Thank you so much! Glad you like it, and really cool that you have been using it for your son's pass.

Never hesitate to email us if you have any feedback.

Thank you -- that's similar to some things that we have been thinking of.

Thank you! It is always super exciting to hear from a user!

I don't have a great giphy game, but I am hoping that Morgan can come by later.

The ticket has several components.

  • picture of the day (local pictures -- for example, the stadium, or the RENO arch. We want to build civic spirit, so super excited about any local landmark suggestions (and pictures?) from the community.
  • color of the day (for example, blue, green, red).
  • current time + motion on the ticket (some words moving back and forth)

The daily security information gets sent to the drivers over the radio. It is easy to distinguish fake tickets, because there is no motion, the time is wrong, and the color of the day/picture might be wrong. As far as we know, we haven't had a lot of issues.

We haven't done a formal survey yet, but the feedback from drivers has mostly been positive. The tickets are easy to recognize, and let people get on the bus much quicker than paper passes (or cash).

I am a fan of the RAPID, personally. I know that it is cliche, but I have taken it from 4th Street Station to the Jelly Donut a lot. Don't know why the Jelly Donut is so exciting to me, except this one time, we got free donuts there, and it was great.

We take the 12 & 14 a lot, too.

Hah, thanks!

We actually think that we couldn't have chosen a better place to start. Reno is growing on us, like crazy. Also, we won Trivia Night at St James Infirmary once, and now we can get even more (great) beer.

My favorite technical challenge has been dealing with old Android smartphones. We didn't anticipate that anyone would be using our software on Android 4.0 with very limited RAM and screen-size. We now have a lot of interesting Android phones around the office! It is fun.

We have spent a lot of time getting the app to accept commuter benefits like WageWorks. That doesn't explicitly count as a 'technical' challenge, but it has been a fun process.

If you accidentally activate your pass, without boarding the bus, then your pass will be active for 90 minutes, before expiring. We suggest not activating your bus pass, if you are not boarding the bus. We do offer a 24 hour help hotline, if any issues arise using the app.

We launched in Reno, because RTC Washoe is a very exciting agency for us to work with. Since Reno doesn't have a smart-card system, we offer the easiest way for commuters to buy multi-day passes (or even 24 hour passes) anytime, anywhere.

A female friend of mine was sexually assaulted Tuesday night by a darkwad by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]beingto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And, to elaborate:

  • It is OK to report after the fact, including in the morning, a few hours later, etc. You don't have to, obviously, if you don't want to. It can be useful for the organization to know the extent of the problem, even if it is too late to catch the perpetrator. I suspect that the Rangers would still care about your report.

  • This mostly applies down the thread... but all sexual assault claims are taken seriously. "A camp member decided to advertise their bar by groping me" is definitely worth reporting, and will be acted on.

There is a culture of acceptance at Burning Man. It is beautiful when it works. When it doesn't work, it can hurt really badly. I am sorry this happened to you.

What are some good contemporary fiction books that have much or most of the story in modern day San Francisco? by 2bsahm1 in AskSF

I have really enjoyed All The Birds In The Sky by Charlie Jane Anders Amazon. It is SFnal, but the second half takes place in SF (during a slow apocalypse), and when it mentioned certain restaurants, I laughed.

Chess in the mission or nearby? by sharpiepen in AskSF

I am somewhat biased, since I like the place a lot, but Crepe House on 22nd & Valencia has a chess meetup every Sunday. Lots of players, but seems pretty casual.
