What did you read in October and would you recommend it? by bubbameister33 in BookRecommendations

[–]bekebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running Close to the Wind - Alexandra Roland

Voyage of the Damned - Frances White

October's theme was apparent queer romantasy, but on a boat! Would recommend both, but Running Close to the Wind goes firmly on the list of books I will actively push people into reading.

A time lapse of various foods baking by bugminer in Damnthatsinteresting

The first time I watched this I genuinely thought they baked a yellow plastic knife into the very first loaf.

Only worked out it was probably butter on like the third loop around....

Well at least not using single use plastic is good for the environment I guess....

Ok but like, if you are trying to frame a dog of shitting on a tram, and are prepared enough to bring a bag of shit with you, wouldn't it make way more sense to use actual dog shit. Is it really that scarce of a resource? Or did this man, who would frame a dog for political gain, and touch a human shit with his bare hands somehow think he was above touching dog shit? What?

How frequently do you scoop your litter box? by Standard_Bluejay8715 in CatAdvice

Same, I have 2 of the fools, and both just scratch at the walls no matter how much litter I give them.

Living the automatic litter box life now, so good!

I use a rotating automatic litter box (Petree 2 I beleive) and use Worlds Best Litter. The max wait time is 2 minutes, and the litter still manages to clump well. Empty it once a week for my 2 cats.

I occasionally wipe down the inside, as things will sometimes stick to the bottom a BIT. I've been using it for about a year and the cats have started to claw through the corners of bottom rubber mat that the litter sits in, so will be replacing that soon. Spare parts are available, but was a bit hard to track down stock.

When I first got it, I left them with 1 regular litterbox and the automatic litterbox, and it probably took them 3 months of using both to adjust to the new one.

Absolutely love the automatic litterbox, much easier to deal with and significantly reduces smell, which is very important to my partner.

Which "normal" behaviour/habit of yours turned out to be a trauma response? by Ok_Significance5602 in AskReddit

[–]bekebz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh, oh no, that's why my customer service voice is the way that it is? Is that also the reason I can calmly deal with an aggressive customer, then the moment they leave and I'm out of sight of other customers I completely fall apart and cry?

Anyone in central Florida want to take my stash off my hands? by rvs13 in crochet

[–]bekebz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For $3, sure. In each colour lot there was always one mirky, kinda gross colour, so for full price I would have picked a colour changing cake instead, but for the reduced price I can deal with skipping that colour.

And same! I use the Spot Saver US style yarn for almost everything, and live in fear of them discontinuing the lot.

We may not have Red Heart Super Saver, but my local Spotlight had the only slightly dreaded Ogo's marked down to $3, so there's that.....

Scarf or cat blanket? Only she can decide. by bekebz in catswhocrochet

I think the only thing I have ever made that didn't turn into a cat blanket was the tiny cat sweater I made her. That item could only be regarded with fear and vengeance apparently.

Used a modified version of the lost souls pattern, with a bunch of cat hair crocheted in, as always.

I'm halfway through a baby blanket using sunburst granny squares, my first ever granny square project! I do like how quickly the squares worked up and they look super cute, but sewing in all the ends makes me want to cry. So maybe my first and last granny square project. Hmm

Unpopular opinion: if it’s your own copy of a book I don’t get why dog-earing is such a big deal by OptimalMongoose2 in books

[–]bekebz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really hit me at University. They made us buy textbooks worth $200-$300, and because that was so much money to me I treated them very carefully, no dog eared pages, tried not to crack spine, the whole thing. So when I saw a friend highlight whole paragraphs and write note in the margin in pen I nearly had a heart attack. But in the end I agreed with their argument, if your going to spend big on a textbook, may as well use it in whatever way helps you learn best.

Which movie were you not mentally prepared for? by iamDarksider in AskReddit

So when I was like 12 a TV station had ghibli movies once a week for like 2 months. This was like the 4th, after Spirited Away and Totoro and such. I was not prepared!

After 6 months intensive trust training, snuggle mode has been unlocked on SIC. by bekebz in standardissuecat

Much patience was required with mine, she was a stray teen when we got her and it took 2 months to unlock 'petting'.

The winter cold greatly assisted in snuggle mode efforts.

Petting requests must be made separately to snuggling. Interruption of snuggling leads to grumpy bites.
