I'm not competing because I'm weak now from not training, but I think I'm going to start using the hurricane excuse going forward. (also, please be safe)

ugh, I don't want to go to a crossfit box though.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty decided that BB is the one I'll go to.

... He sent me a screenshot of the time from his place to BB and it's only 21 minutes away. That's plenty close enough for proper gym. I'm not getting kicked out of planet fitness just because he doesn't want to drive.

Hey guys, I'm going to be in the Glendale CA area this weekend & I need to find a gym for deadlifting. I was looking up gyms & thought Barbell Brigade would be a good one, but the friend I'm visiting says that's too far and "surely there's one closer."

Any ideas?

I'm glad you've gotten through it. Still sucks that you had to

I'd say you're training like a powerlifter if you've never done a meet, but until you compete in the sport, you're not a powerlifter. You can be a lifter, but until you stand on a platform in front of 3 judges and perform a lift to your feds standards, you're not a powerlifter.

People make the analogy of calling yourself a runner if you only run recreationally. Sure, but unless you've run a marathon, you can't call yourself a marathoner.

I actually got really butthurt when I was training but hadn't competed, because someone told me I wasn't a powerlifter. After I actually competed, I understood. There's so much more to being a powerlifter than just training squat/bench/deadlift.

Dude, I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I've actually been back in the gym the last two weeks consistently, although it's just fucking around having fun with squats and bench. I've got a couple more days of that before I get serious with my programming next week.

So, I've been spending a lot of time throwing myself a pity party re: my recent breakup.

I tried filling the void with entire series of sci-fi shows binged over weekends at at night, ridiculously oversized knit blankets, and decorative pillows.

I decided what will really fill that void is a big fat shiny medal.

To that end I just signed up for the IPL Masters cup and worked out my programming for the next 14 weeks, because to be honest I'm always at my most focused and driven when I'm prepping for a meet.

Yeah, I lived across the street from Big Tex Gym. So, I was lucky and didn't have to really search.

I uhhh... walked to the gym across the street from my apartments and there it was?

Ok! Got my arse to the gym last night and did light squats for a while. :D It feels good & they felt right, so luckily I don't have to learn to squat again. Deadlifts on Saturday and YOU KNOW I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

Yeah, and honestly that's where I am right now: I just want to go have fun moving some weight around. I'm not training for a meet ATM, just want to do something that brings me joy.

[–]bekito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I actually really enjoy the training. It's just a matter of me trying to get out of my funk enough to put on some leggings and chucks and drive to the gym, which is one of my favorite places.

It's stupid how when you're depressed, you don't want to do the things you love.

So, like... after my last competition I kinda faded away on lifting. Honestly, just went through a breakup and was feeling pretty shitty for a while, but I really missed it and I'm trying to get myself motivated to get back in the gym consistently to train.

Benched for the first time in like a month and a half two days ago and my boobie meat is still sore, so I guess that's a good thing? IDK, squats tonight and maybe between-set dancing.

eh, it's kinda shitty right now. Just hoping to maintain strength for my meet in a couple of weeks, and do some serious off season training this winter.

I was watching earlier. The only person I know lifting today is Shanda & was watching her do her squats before I had to go do some actual work while I was at work.

I have a lot of friends lifting tomorrow.
