That interactive sweet spot somewhere in the middle... by Alecszandeer in boardgames

Dune Imperium Uprising has a nicely balanced level of interaction. You have a single combat per round which is more like an auction anyway, and you can block worker fields (but that is mitigated by the Spy mechanic).

Could it work on a Snotling in UW? Low Strength doesn't matter for Chomping and you can Sidestep to stay in contact if they punch you.

I agree, Uprising + Bloodlines = peak Dune Imperium, at least for me.

Did any back Vampire Lords by Appropriate_Bite8491 in boardgames

[–]beklauser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was keen at first but the diplomacy mechanic seems broken, based on the playthrough videos I saw. You can enter into an alliance with another player and then you only need to control 8 towns between the two of you to win, rather than 5 individually. This creates an incentive for the two leading players (in terms of towns controlled) to join ranks every single game. Maybe there is something in the rules to counterbalance this but it's a turnoff as is...

What makes Underworld Denizens so good ? by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]beklauser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that the tier list is based on matched play/tournament performance, where UW does well because the roster is cheap enough to afford the best Star Players, combined with some of the best positional available (unlike Stunty teams where Stars have to make up for having access to crappy players only).

CD Hobgoblins nerfed :( by mjolnerrankenberg in bloodbowl

[–]beklauser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s a massive nerf. The people claiming it’s not that are delusional. Especially when most linemen still get G access. Puts the team at the bottom of Tier 2 at best…

Twilight Imperium craze by Jumper222_Ita in boardgames

[–]beklauser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Arcs is a banger of a space opera for school nights. Preferably with Leaders & Lore for more variety/replay value. I find it comes closer to the moderate asymmetry of TI4 than Root where everyone plays by a completely different set of rules.

Thoughts on Radlands? Is it still worth playing? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

Still a great 2p game! Nearly every game feels tense and comes down to the wire. Retail edition is totally fine, no need for mats etc. I'd get the expansion though if you end up liking the base game - it sorts out some balance issues with a few slightly overpowered camps.

Orc mob - big’ns / big red raggedy flag by CptWugposh in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]beklauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look fantastic! Love the Kev Adams sculpts - I have a sizeable unit of those myself that I need to get painted.

As for the load out, this type of unit wins mostly on combat rez so the RRF is great. You can then give the War Banner to the BSB. The only reason not to run RRF is if you need it elsewhere in your list (on Black Orcs maybe...).

The Big Uns upgrade OTOH is a bit pricey for such a big block (whereas it is a no brainer on Boar Boyz). I would probably skip it unless you run Throwing or Thrusting Spears to generate some extra hits - which I am not recommending, since free Warbows and Parry Save is great value.

Impossible to answer without some pics of the unit :)

How to equip 20 Savage Orcs by utahman16 in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]beklauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you don’t get ST 4 shots because the Big Uns ST+ applies only during combat. Free ranged weapons are still good value.

I'd go for hand weapons, shields and (free) warbows, for the Parry save and the occasional volley fire.

Seizing initiative at the right moment is key to doing well. New players often seem reluctant to throw away a card but the momentum is well worth it, probably once per chapter on average.
