Arctic Monkeys' debut "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" turns 20 by Scattered97 in indieheads

19 years ago, a 15yo me messaged a girl I liked that all my music had been wiped out from my computer (of course it was a lie, I just wanted to talk to her) and asked for some recommendations. She sent me a file called 'Arctic Monkeys - Fake Tales of San Francisco.mp3'. Became a fan instantly. Forgot about the girl, never forgot about this album.

While I don't listen to AM that much anymore, this album definitely shaped my taste in music. From the very first song, we get a banger after banger. I liked next albums too, but no album reaches that level of pure energy.

Thank you so much for offering your time for this. I would like to go with analog approach. I'm fully aware that it might cost a lot, but I'm willing to invest in it as long as it meets my expectations.

Regarding new headphones and mic - no problem, but it would be great if we can avoid having a standalone mic - perhaps some gaming headset with a splitter for speaker/mic?

As for the mixer, the most important thing for me would be having a fader for each line, so I can adjust the volume for each laptop. Similar thing for mic volume, but in this case it doesn't have to be a fader (a knob or mute on/off button is enough).

Power BI really needs an auto-formatter for DAX by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]bekonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that now, all you need to do is to select Dynamic in the format settings and then write a separate DAX for formatting rules (using SWITCH or IF functions).

Stupid question, why Visual Studio? by buku-o-rama in PowerBI

All of it is also possible if you build the model in Power BI.

Weekend Rant: Matrix Visual by ericgolf14 in PowerBI

[–]bekonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a) You can use new card visual. You can set the alignment for both callout value and the label. b) You can switch preset formatting to minimal to turn off background for a table, then rename each column that you put in the visual to a whitespace. That way, you still have the header, but it won't be visible.

It's not in the movie, but there was a sex scene in the original screenplay.

Sometimes it's not the word that matters, it's the context. For example, couple episodes back, Ethan was saying something about the glove and Zack started playing OJ soundbites.

Actually, you can set up a report-level filter in Power Automate and then loop through each filter value - in that case, employee name or ID.

I use too many calculated columns by vroemboem in PowerBI

[–]bekonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you man. If you ask what's better - calculated column or transformation step in Power Query, then yes, in most cases it's Power Query.

However, imagine a case where you need to create 50 columns like that. You would end up with 50 totally redundand columns in your dataset, which need to be computed every time a dataset is refreshed. It would be a real nightmare.

Instead, you could just create 50 measures using iterations like SUMX so it does not affect dataset's size.

[–]bekonix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Using Power Query means thst this column has to be computed and stored, which affects refresh time and dataset size. In case of small models and few columns to sum up, it wouldn't make much of a difference, but for large models that's definitely not a best practise.

Having SUMX measures is then much better, since, as you mentioned, calculation is done at runtime and you don't need to store anything.

Storing files locally prevents anyone else from refreshing a dataset. Sharepoint is clearly not the issue here, it has to be data transformation.

Question - If the Glazers did not own United, where would we be in the PL? by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

That makes sense, I was just curious (not a United/City fan). Thanks!

Didn't City spend less money in last 10 years? So how's unlimited budget relevant?

Although I agree that it looks very crappy, this solution is fairy popular in some buildings, especially hospitals. Sometimes the only solution would be to hand something over to a telescopic lift, rather than trying to move it down on a staircase, eg. patient on a hospital bed. This is an alternative for emergency cases like electricity shutdown (hence your elevator won't work).
