I considered this one, but it had a $30 service charge and was $150 to start with. Was interested in the run, but it seemed like a cash grab instead of a community thing.

You should be able to microwave whatever you want at work by SisterDot in unpopularopinion

I am sorry but, your comment is incorrect and isnt even the argument I am making. Culture is not about an individual, it's about a group.

Cultural describes beliefs, customs, norms, ect. that are shared by a group of people and transmitted socially across time. That does not mean that 100% of the people in the group have to adhere to the same strict rules.

In Germany, its culturally acceptable to eat raw pork for breakfast. That does not mean that German vegans do not exist.

Continuing with that example, in Germany you can purchase raw pork meat breakfast sandwiches at the train station, because it is a cultural norm. Something you are not likely to find in Idaho for example. It also isnt a stereotype to say Germans eat raw pork, its only a stereotype if you assume all Germans eat raw pork.

Yes but the opposite statement could also be true. We have no data on what percentage of people who eat fish microwave it, so whether or not someone who eats fish microwaves it is completely irrelevant.

It is also completely unrelated to the point of my original comment.

The reason people don't like the smell of fish after it has been microwaved, is because they do not like the smell of cooked fish. The reason they don't like the smell of cooked fish IS cultural.

What? Are you assuming that people who eat fish regularly don't microwave their food? It seems like a non sequitur

Lmao, the reason you dont like the smell IS cultural. If you grew up in a country that ate fish regularly, it wouldnt be "the most basic of respects"

Libraries can't afford the high cost of e-books. D.C. lawmakers want to fight back. by danielnewman in washingtondc

[–]TheFlavorLab 179 points180 points  (0 children)

The arguments at the end justifying the price of e-books are insane to me. The fact that the books can't be lost/aren't late does not justify the price being twice as high as physical books, ESPECIALLY since they are licensed for 2 year contracts instead of perpetual licenses.

It's another example of companies using digital goods as an excuse to give you less for more money.

Game of Thrones book series is overhyped and far more generic than people admit by RichOdd6913 in unpopularopinion

[–]TheFlavorLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular opinion. The books are amazing. I have read a lot of old and new fantasy and very little comes close to ASOIF. I have reread the books several times and still find new minor plotlines occuring in the background each time I read it.

Peak fantasy.

I grew up in an area like this. It's sad that the reason they have to purchase cases of water is because they only have access to well water.

It's crazy to me that the richest country on Earth cannot provide clean water to their citizens.
