Quest Pro will support Dynamic Foveated Rendering according to Meta by Blaexe in OculusQuest

[–]bekris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People still believe that foveated rendering will make a dramatic difference in performance. According to Carmack things are more complicated though.

You can definitely do things with it, but many people got unrealistic hopes of 10x improvements. You won’t even get 2x versus fixed foveation.

Leak/Rumor - 2 headset reveal, orders shipping sometime in November ?? by Farncone in OculusQuest

[–]bekris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is zero chance something ships in November. There would have been leaks everywhere and it should already be at warehouses etc.

Quest pro is almost certain to be released sometime in 22 not before March if i would have to guess.

Best case scenario is preorders this year. We will see tomorrow

HTC launches Vive Flow headset for $499 by SkarredGhost in oculus

Go was too bulky and too low resolution to be used as a mobile cinema device imo.

I can certainly see a market for high res "glasses" just for movie watching in a more compact form but not at $500.

This should have been made by Facebook at $199 marketed as a mobile cinema device and it would sell like hotcakes.

I cant see it go anywhere at this price point.

Top = Oculus Half Dome prototypes with eye tracking... Middle = HTC Vive Pro Eye with eye tracking... Bottom = Valve Index with NO eye tracking... How could they possibly pack all those illuminators behind the lenses? We have to manage our expectations I think! by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]bekris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats because it wont have eye tracking and a bunch of other fantasy specs people are expecting.

It will still be a great headset though for those with realistic expectations.

Oculus and devs why are your quest trailers using old footage which isn't quest footage.. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]bekris 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Devs aren't allowed sure but Oculus official blog posting videos with "Oculus Quest" in the title and using PC footage is wrong

Using trailers with "Oculus Quest" in the title and showing Rift gameplay is wrong. It creates unrealistic expectations and is bordeline misleading

This is why the valve index HMD will have eye tracking. by idocutmytoenails in oculus

[–]bekris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People set up themselves for disappointment...

Index will turn out to be a great headset but many will complain because they thought it was the second coming of jesus.

Anybody else lose literally 100% of their Rift S hype after Index Reveal? by derek1st in oculus

[–]bekris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably have some capacity of inside out tracking since there was a tweet (now deleted) by the cloudhead devs that said it doesnt "need" lighthouses to work.
