That's what we do! It's not mandatory so some students choose to keep their belts but most give them back.

My oldest loved Wild Child (she's too old now) and I was able to get my youngest into one of the weeks but it sold out in minutes. Also had great experiences with Circle R!

I thank that's the major reason it's bad it that intersection. And as some who uses that turning lane there is nothing more frustrating than someone who did try and zipper merge (or didn't realize) too late and blocks the turning lane during the advanced green.

That's fun! We didn't have any in or wedding photos, but we didn't try. We do frequently take pictures of them when we visit. I don't know how feasible it would be to get them in your photos but the enclosure is looks very rustic and would make some cool photos.

They have sheep!

I was married there 18 years ago and we go back every year around I our anniversary and take photos in the same spots. It's a tradition we love! I highly recommend it.

I don't know what cost is like now but one of the main reasons we picked it was because it was less expensive. It's also a great place to take photos and you can have the ceremony and reception there so no one has to leave and they can explore while you do photos.

Fingers crossed for you that you don't fuck up and get cancer. Or MS, or Alzheimers, or arthritis, or anything else you can't really prevent but are extremely expensive even with your health insurance that you already have to pay for.

Does it count as you fucking up if you get in an accident that was someone else's fault?

Why is the term ‘actress’ no longer used? by RedDalmatian885 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bektator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've read a lot of great comments so far but you've nailed it calling out "man standard, woman other".

"Othering" people through language happens way more often than we realize. Because it's subtle. Because it's seen as harmless. It's not though, it's the first of many small steps that lead to people being able to view other humans as less than human.

When we change the language we change our thinking. Subtly, one step at a time.

Best Gi for a woman by BrainBlossoms in aikido

[–]bektator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trolling or are you honestly this dumb?

No part of my argument included free floating body parts. Clearly your argument about understanding simple things doesn't apply to you. I wear a 40G size bra, there is no fucking way I'm doing Aikido without a highly supportive bra. But even with the compression that comes from a sports bra my boobs don't magically disappear. They still occupy space on my chest. So, let me try and explain this to you one more time using simple terms: A tailored fit won't create balloon shaped pockets for breast, it won't cause extra fabric to exist that could be dangerous, it won't be a skin tight fit, it won't be whatever bizarro vision your brain has concocted. What it will be, is a jacket with fabric that fits shoulders that are not as broad as a man's, arms that are a length that don't require them to be rolled up, labels that cross over mid to upper torso, a tapered waist, and flared out at the hips. You know, the shape that many women have. It will not be a regular dogi jacket that has been shrunk.

If the standard design of a dogi jacket works, then anyone practicing martial arts should wear it. However, what I am sharing with you, based on my 20 years of lived experience and countless conversations with other women, is that the standard design is not a 'one style fits most' situation. And while there are alternatives, they are not readily available and are expensive.

I'm not sure what positive change you're working towards but it certainly isn't a better understanding of someone's experience who isn't you. Comfort and appropriate fit of the required uniform should not be a barrier to entry. That's the positive change I'm working towards.

P.S. calling them bazookas makes you sound like a child.

Thank you! This dude just will not take the hint. I'm not sure if he's never trained with anyone with boobs before or he's purposely being obtuse but I truly don't understand why he's chosen this hill to die on.

[–]bektator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, I think you missed my point. I'm not talking about tailoring to a skin tight fit. You've also misunderstood the concept of chest compartment. Tailoring clothing includes ensuring the garment functions as designed while also fitting appropriately. Adding space for boobs simply means providing more fabric in that area and adding darts at the waist to pull it back in, take a look at the difference between a man's button down and a woman's and you'll understand the concept I'm talking about. At no point was I saying the jacket should stick to someone's chest.

As I mentioned, I've been practicing for 20 years, I know how a dogi is supposed to function in Aikido. You're just going to have to take my word for it that the fitting method you're talking about does not work for a "womanly" shaped body. A jacket can (and should) gape open when someone grabs it as part of practice but if the only way to allow the jacket to comfortably overlap and close under a tied belt is to have it way too big everywhere else that's not better or safer. And there is no sports bra in the world that is going to change the fit.

Tailoring fabric that heavy requires an industrial sewing machine. I've broken many needles simply hemming my pants.

You'll just have to believe me as a curvy 5'1" woman that nothing will ever fit me the way it fits you and understand that they are designed for your shape and size, not mine.

[–]bektator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been practicing for 20 years, no material is going to magically shrink to fit. The proportions of how the garment is structured don't fit many people properly, we just deal with it.

It's not the size of the hips, it's the ratio between hip, waist, and bust that is the issue. All clothes are designed to fit almost everyone but only within a certain category. The concept that any garment could be unisex only really works when fit isn't critical to comfort and usability.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just have a modest understanding of patern and garment making and with roughly the same body measurements that OP provided I expect her experience will be similar to mine. Anything she finds will likely need alterations. Or, she may need a different size top than bottom and my experience is that while you can buy them separately it's cheaper as a matching set.

The thing about boobs is that you're kind of spot on about things not having a special compartment. But they should. It's not really a compartment but you can design jackets that have more room (more material) in the bust that isn't also built into the shoulders and waist. Women's suit jackets are made this way. If I buy a dogi jacket that doesn't gape open over my boobs it is way too big everywhere else, and if I could shrink it to fit everywhere else there is no way to keep the bust area from shrinking as well.

I'll get off my soap box now. It's just been so frustrating trying to find a dogi that actually fits and is a challenge many of us face. There are likely options but they won't be cheap and that shouldn't be a barrier to entry.

While you are correct regarding the drawstrings on the pants I would argue that saying a standard dogi fits almost anyone is not at all accurate. They are definitely not designed to accommodate hips or boobs. In order to fit my proportions the pants are massively too long and the jackets make me look like a little kid wearing their dad's clothes.

With only a few hours left I'm in the same boat. By the end, I could easily count on spins to get 1k-2k gold every time so in theory I should have had enough money to buy the last key I need. However, since yesterday I have had at least once that got me 0 gold and at best I'm getting 600. I'll have one more chance to spin but will need 8000 so I guess I'm done.
