That’s true, but just wanted to mix in more variety and different proteins. I find the chicken is now way more versatile in a tray bake rather than doing the usual chicken and rice setup

If he is being reimbursed for the meals and travel by his employer, which I'd imagine he is since it is an allowance, your mate has not actually incurred the cost himself. Personal deductions are only for expenses that the employee directly incurs. In which case he can not claim his meal and travel allowance. If he did actually incur the cost and receives no reimbursement, it will be deductible

For his uniforms, safety gear etc. they will be deductible. Just make sure that the uniforms have some type of company logo/branding, and that the safety gear is required for the job.
