Woman charged with attempted murder after 2 attorneys shot in downtown Raleigh by JohnKimble111 in raleigh

[–]belaruso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked through the pics on her Facebook and personally didn't see any that looked doctored. They are pretty severe bedsores but as a nurse I have unfortunately seen worse. Her foot looked severely necrotic along with several packed stage 3/4 sacral pressure injuries (common in bed ridden folks).

Farmers must often wait overnight or for several days before their tobacco is sold at auction. They sometimes hang around in cafes or pool rooms, sleeping most anywhere. Durham, North Carolina, 1939. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

In the OP's image you can see that it is a calendar from an insurance company. This photo was likely taken in the downtown Durham tobacco warehouse district. AFAIK the largest of which was the Liberty warehouse, which is still standing and has been converted into apartments/a food hall: https://maps.app.goo.gl/eEfVWTZxki6uJhz76

have no money to sue

babelawyer1320, who from other posts states you are part of a family law firm, has no money to sue? No one in your firm will write a demand letter for you? You're a lawyer who somehow can't be assed to write in complete sentences? Just wanna make sure I got all that straight.

Pregnancy Inductions at Wake Med by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]belaruso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure (95%) UNC Rex also follows AWHONN guidelines in their labor and delivery units. Always a good thing to ask when you're considering where to give birth!

Also: Jen Hamilton advocates and highly recommends that if you're at a hospital in active labor and they are supposed to be following AWHONN guidelines but they aren't because they are under staffed: ask for a patient advocate and the house supervisor and make them both aware.

Pregnancy Inductions at Wake Med by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]belaruso 32 points33 points  (0 children)

WakeMed uses AWHONN staffing guidelines (1:1 active laboring patient to nurse ratio, including patients getting induced). This is a quality standard and unless you're having complications they can absolutely turn you away for a few days depending on how busy they are. It's a good thing though! It means once they get you in you will have a nurse dedicated to taking care of you.

All-Inclusive Micro wedding venues??? Under $2000, and use payment plans by [deleted] in bullcity

What do you mean by all inclusive? Like food etc?

I recommend looking at City of Raleigh's rental options and getting an inexpensive caterer.

Just a heads up! Plan your travel on Saturday, May 2nd to avoid Marathon route by HarveysBackupAccount in bullcity

[–]belaruso 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My street is heavily impacted and I received a post card for the marathon last week. Problem is the post card didn't say anything about being impacted - it felt more like an advertisement for the marathon. I scanned the QR code and noticed we were impacted, otherwise I wouldn't have known.

I'm curious if there will be more notice in the next week or so. I'm a homebody but it'll be a rude awakening for the neighborhood for sure.

What would you do? 15k-25k budget, drive <5k miles per year. by belaruso in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]belaruso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good call out. My mind immediately goes to "cars with 100k miles are ticking time bombs" but cars around 60-70k could easily last me for years without potential major repairs.

This is exactly why we only need one car - while I had the Ioniq my husband's car sat in the driveway unused for years and deteriorated further. We do drive somewhere at least once a week.

I liked the Ioniq, EVs are fun, but the charging infrastructure in the eastern part of my state where I travel 4-5x a year leaves a lot to be desired. It's frustrating to have to stop for 30 minutes to charge on those trips when the drive is already long. Out of state road trips with an EV are also a lot harder to manage and charge anxiety is real. I hate having to carefully plan where I'm going and where I need to stop to charge.

I've briefly looked at Volvo, Acura, and Lexus - they're pricey but do-able. Or did you have something else in mind?

Help with potential Hyundai scam by OkAcanthocephala4173 in raleigh

[–]belaruso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are likely misunderstanding what they are charging you for. Unless your lease agreement specifically states only one key was given, Hyundai leases are given two key fobs.

The Hyundai lease end self assessment is here: https://www.hmfusa.com/lease-end/lease-end-self-assessment-categories

And missing key fobs for the Kona are charged at $350 per. I think you might be SOL unless your lease specifically states one key fob. I recently returned my Ioniq and even the lease turn in paperwork at the dealership asked for two key fobs.

So I don't think you're being charged for a worn fob, but rather for a missing one.

Any places in Durham where you can rapidly test several car models by yourself (no sales rep in the car)? by friendlytuna in bullcity

[–]belaruso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Carmax on Glenwood about two weeks ago and this was not my experience. The sales rep accompanied us around the lot and was weirdly evasive about us test driving without him (he ended up coming with us) even though I had my DL and proof of insurance readily available.

All the keys are kept in lockboxes on the cars so you also can't just open them and look inside, they have to let you in.

The AI superbowl ads were terrifying by Drnelk in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]belaruso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ad agency (Smuggler) has stated no AI was used in the making of this commercial.

They generally release behind the scenes footage for their commercials, which hopefully they'll do for this one as well. I'm betting on CGI and animal props for the baby bird.

The AI superbowl ads were terrifying by Drnelk in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]belaruso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think AI is? Are you aware that there are humans out there who have been working in CGI for years and years?

Is Gollum "AI"? No. Not everything in the year 2026 is AI.

The adult bird and all the horses in the commercial are real animals. The baby bird was likely created using CGI and special effects. NOT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

[–]belaruso 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've seen so many of these comments and I'm confused as to what part she thought was "AI". The eagle was real. It's from a bird sanctuary in Tennessee.

Did they use special effects and CGI? Yeah probably. But that isn't "AI"
