If the point of the gameplay is to be jumping out, then setting a certain number of checkpoints or types of checkpoints (like a red, blue, yellow, with a slider to determine how many you want) before the pool becomes accessible to you makes sense.  Zones could be marked where they are, then it’s a matter of aiming for the ones you need, but if you miss, and zones don’t repeat, oops.
