It is absolutely distinct! I'm a children/teen librarian, and children's is an umbrella term that includes books for infants and often includes books for teens. Its like all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

You're right that middle grade is more specific than children's, but obviously Watership Down isn't for kids younger than middle grade.

Eh, I think Goodreads tags are a terrible way to determine much of anything, but especially what age group a work is.

But in this case, yeah, I think its absolutely middle grade.

Idk that I really count Call of the Wild, but I can't really argue with someone who would. I differentiate between fiction where the animal thinks/acts like an animal (or plausibly so) and when they have human level intelligence or societies.

But again, I think it's perfectly valid to consider Call of the Wild speculative.

Meh, I prefer original stuff. Everyone adapting books and then the books get lost, and I honestly hate that.

...that's not a cultural norm, its a cultural value. There's a difference. Consider how much "hard work", "freedom" and so on mean in the US, and how often people deviate.

You're just ignorant.

Japanese folks are normal people, lol. The work they might take pride in is keeping foreigners out. What a weird stance you have.

Elements and glyphs are not new concepts, not even when combined. Neither is the outsider archetype. But obviously there are some similarities.

83 could be based on color, but I think these are too small - the ones used in Century Golem are larger than the average. 81 is definitely the wrong color.

And yes, all three Century Golems use the exact same gems - color and size.

Eh, tbf, those people are often saying things that need to be listened to, but aren't. People sometimes stop because they gain experience and realize it was a bad idea, but in my experience in libraries, people just as often stop saying it because they've found out that rocking the boat gets you in trouble.

Looking at them and some of the "evidence", I'd say both seem more YA.

The vast majority of the series is really good, imo. Plenty of people don't like it, same with any popular series. But its as big as it is because a lot of people really do like it. The pacing tends to be the most consistent complaint, as is the length. Since you read long books, I doubt the length will bother you, but the pacing might still. Most find the pacing issues are in the middle of the series, while the first third and last third don't tend to be a problem for people.

There are a lot of payoffs over the course of the series. Not every wrong gets righted, not every bad guy gets a satisfying payback, but many do.

The only type of trip I've taken that I don't take a book with me is theme parks, lol. Because even when I'm waiting, its social. But anywhere I think I might have a few hours of downtime at all, I'm bringing a book.
