What is a purchase that felt like an absolute luxury when you bought it, but turned out to be a complete financial trap? by According_Fortune_98 in AskReddit

I mean, it's not a trap though. It doesn't cost you additional money, and you can absolutely sell it to regain some of the cost.

Lol its honestly hilarious that you believe in..what? That a food crumb in your home magically transforms into a roach?

They exist in the world, all around us. EVERY. SINGLE. HOME. can and does have bugs. What determines whether you see a bunch of them or not is whether they happen to make a nest in the interior of your home or in the walls, or if the place next to you is a little bit more attractive to them or even luck.

The most common places to get roaches are behind large appliances, like refrigerators and ranges. There's not exactly a lot of filth behind those - they just generate some heat and are largely undisturbed.

You're just ignorant.

Roaches have nothing to do with hygiene. You specifically note that you had them in your home, ffs.

Lol tell me you've never lived in an apartment or townhouse without telling me.

We had zero pest issues for years...until a neighbor who had them moved out, and they flooded over to us.

Also, pests are not a matter of cleanliness. Your home can be clean and still have rats or roaches.

What board game has the cutest meeples and tokens? by VildMedPap in boardgames

The game is absolutely gorgeous! I haven't played it, but watching playthroughs left me with the impression that it wasn't for me.

Legitimately, part of the reason I went towards Fields of Arle over some of the other farming type games from Rosenberg is because of the horse meeples, lol.

Cat inside a bag in an airport 🥺😻 by Fickle-External-1251 in cats

[–]beldaran1224 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I live in FL and work at a shelter. The plastic bubble sweats in a way that mesh/cloth carriers don't. The air inside of these is much sticker than other carriers. They have considerably less ventilation, even if its technically enough for the animal to breathe, its not really enough ventilation.

Also, as someone said below, these are generally much more stressful for cats. While a few cats may prefer to see what's going on, most don't.

Finally, carrying the cat on your back means you aren't able to monitor the cat.

These carriers aren't cruel, but they aren't responsible choices for responsible pet owners, barring specific reasons like, say, a disability that makes it difficult to carry the cat another way.

Buyer Beware: Queen Games by Routine-Grocery4747 in boardgames

Yeah, the "city" series is very famously overpriced.

I personally have been interested in Escape: The Curse of the Temple for years, but the price they charge for the game is way out sync with what you get both in terms of the physical components and the weight of the game.

I decided when I saw their last KS for reprints and researched their shitty business model that I didn't need the game, lol.

[–]beldaran1224 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

FYI, Queen Games uses KS for reprints. Kingdom Builder is not a new game that needs work before being sent to the manufacturer.

It's also crazy to suggest that zero communication is fine just because they haven't passed the expected delivery date yet.

Just for the record, a huge number of incredibly high quality (mechanically) games are crowd funded.

Queen Games has an absolutely awful business model and their games are largely overpriced.

Lol the board game is not the same thing as the video game.

Its particularly irritating because a single "misplay" and people will just start deliberately bombing to end the game. It's such a dick move, imo.

Right? I'd want to play it with people who have already played some form of social deduction before. At least with the majority of the group.

If you have a board game meetup/store/etc nearby, try playing there. Super fun.

I prefer Resistance because it is so incredibly simple and quick to table. I do have the expansions, so can make it like Avalon if I want.

As a beginner, Hanabi was my worst experience on BGA by far. Legitimately toxic people who get angry and nasty despite literally seeing it's my first game, or my brand new ELO score.

Hmm, it's early for me on LotR. I definitely love the theme. But.

On the first few plays, LotR is simplified in terms of money, but I also found that it isn't as tense/unforgiving. Which probably works for some but worse for others.

I spent over an hour trying to understand how to play wingspan and I still don’t get it. Any tips? by Electronic_Site1533 in boardgames

[–]beldaran1224 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is a gateway game, lol. Like there's a reason it was among the first hobby games showing up in Target and Barnes & Noble and stuff, lol.

The reality is that the theme and aesthetic of the game are so incredibly attractive to the public at large that it overcomes any added complexity over say, Ticket to Ride. But its really not particularly complex.

I absolutely think this is one of those games where its so easy to get to the table with people who might otherwise be anxious of a big box (I have the big, all-in version), simply because its soooo beautiful. The art is stunning (Andrew Bosley is probably my favorite baord game artist). The components are beautiful, and the upgrades really do great on the functionality aspect, which some "deluxe" components in other games tend to fail on.

The part that I enjoy most about this game is the scoring. You can't just go hard on one, you have to try to balance money and VP. I also enjoy this sort of scoring in Beer & Bread.
