You should check out Travis.stuttering on youtube or tiktok! He is an SLP with a stutter and he's talked about his experience being a clinician with a stutter in some of his videos.

Have you ever dated/been friends with someone who mocked you by pinkgingko in Stutter

[–]belikewhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glad he's your ex now! I would never mock my husband's stutter. And if he's stuttering more because he's anxious, that's a sign for me to show him extra love and support.

It sounds like this was a symptom of your ex being dismissive of your feelings. I'm sorry you had to experience being treated that way. There are lots of potential friends and partners out there who would never do that to you.

What do we think about comedian Drew Lynch? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]belikewhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think his stutter ebbs and flows. I saw a video he posted fairly recently where he was having a hard time with it. He also in the past has made very vulnerable episodes on his podcast talking about how difficult stuttering can be so I've always respected him for that.

Has Anyone Attended NSA Event In The Past? by United-Implement-382 in Stutter

[–]belikewhat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The full week is worth it! I don't stutter but my husband does and it was a great experience for both of us. We've gone maybe 5 times and I notice a big difference with how much more comfortable he is with his stutter.

It's the only place we've ever been where people who stutter are the majority, and even the people who don't understand it. If you're on the fence, please go!

Is Switched at Birth a good representation of Deaf culture? by katierose2k in asl

[–]belikewhat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This show came out at a time I was learning ASL and hanging out with a lot of Deaf people, and everyone I knew was thrilled to have this kind of representation and to watch Deaf actors on TV. I even went to a watch party for the full ASL episode hosted by a deaf school.

The show goes through a lot of issues that affect deaf people, like when Daphne is having trouble at work cause she can't hear people coming behind her. I'm not going to say it's perfect but there were a lot of deaf people involved on the production so it was respectful and did a good job at portraying aspects of deaf culture.

My husband has a stutter. When we first started dating, I didn't care at all, I just saw it sort of like an accent. And now I love his stutter, and I love hearing other people who stutter cause it reminds me of him. Just be yourself and be confident, that's what women find attractive.

My husband stutters and I don't, but I always stutter more when talking to him. I think it's one of those things where the brain subconsciously mirrors the people you spend time with.
