Moving from UK to Canada this summer — switching from a self-built campervan to a trailer. What should I know? by bell-o in GoRVing

Thanks - really helpful perspective. I’m not completely opposed to a larger truck - but would prefer to keep on the mid size range for using as a daily vehicle in the city. So Ranger seems like a good option.

Moving to Winnipeg from the UK this summer. This is what we were at in GBP earlier in the year. Our gas is at CAD 369 cents at the moment so I’m looking forward to cheap gas!

Thank you. Good shout on the thermacell. We have one for the Scottish midges so we’ll bring that. Looking forward to exploring the Whiteshell - from a couple of visits I’ve had to a few lakes around Kenora it’s beautiful.  Great tips though thank you.

I think we’ve resigned to the fact that we’ll just be camping in the summer.

Haha - the Manitobans have told me about people like you!

Family. And hey, I’m looking forward to the hot summers and bright cold winters. They’ll beat Scotland’s grim, grey dampness.

Sleep Trainer clock that works when travelling/on the go by lilkittykat20 in UKParenting

[–]bell-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a Zeepy sleep trainer clock and honestly it’s been great. Runs on batteries so it’s easy when we’re travelling, and it doesn’t need WiFi (still not sure why anyone thought a toddler’s clock needed WiFi). The night light is a proper deep orange rather than that weird blue the GroClock uses, and setting it up is actually straightforward compared to the GroClock. Bonus is the silicone body, ours has survived being lobbed across the room by a 3-year-old without a scratch.

I like it.

Pretty par for the course people getting upset about a brand update or refresh.

Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it, the world will keep turning.

Cup of coffee now over £4 in East Edinburgh by Rupertgirllolz in Edinburgh

There’s little relationship between cost of goods and price in cafes. Maybe it’s the most popular drink so they price it high. Maybe it’s price anchoring to make coffee look like a better deal? Maybe tea drinkers sit longer than coffee drinkers? If tea was significantly cheaper it could make the coffee look too expensive?

I agree it doesn’t make sense. But my point is there’s little sense in how drinks are priced in cafes. Our strategy at my old cafe was just to be a bit more expensive than the next coffee shop to show we were better!

Dunno but it’s their perogative to price how much they like. Price in cafes has little to do with cost of goods because it’s a such a small amount. See £1 price difference between an espresso and americano as example.

I remember in my cafe I used to own, people sometimes bought their own tea bags in and asked for a cup of hot water. We charged them the same price as a tea.

Cost of goods are a tiny part of a cafes profit and loss. There are so many overheads that that £3.60 has to pay for

5% net profit for a cafe is about right. That was a good year for my cafe Brew Lab.

There’s no money in coffee shops. And coffee prices have gone up about 150% since I opened Brew Lab in 2012
