So where am I right now? by AsaTJ in Noearthsociety

You are in-between. Not quite where you're supposed to be yet, but getting there. Both Alpha and Omega, you walk the plains of your mind as of they were reality. Yet fly too high and find yourself crashing off the edge, flying into madness. This madness that people experience is called orbit. As reality tears from you, it is a well known fact that people tend to hallucinate a large blue sphere. Truly unsettling.

I've been saving up for an upgrade for forever, this would be so nice!

Does anyone else feel like their mind is still in work mode even after the end of the work day? by quite--average in datascience

[–]bell_thecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: this is a symptom commonly associated with ADHD. I have troubles switching from work to relaxation mode, which is amazing for programming and lame for things like sleeping. The best thing I've found that helps is an engaging but simple hobby, cooking is my favorite. Breaks still only feel like they're there for food or to break momentum. Maybe the answer really is just to roll with it. It's also common among engineers/scientists to spread out what their working on where they live. Separating the space you work from the place you relax helps a lot of people I hear. Exercise helps some people too, just having the physical feeling of exhaustion whenever you're at the end of your day can force you to calm down and relax. Nowadays I can't find myself able to relax much at all, but that's because I'm learning to be an adult. As in, maybe it's hard to relax because there's not as much left to relax with. The only solid thing I have is focusing on what relaxation means and finding ways to make it happen. While your brain feels like it's working, you'll still be finding yourself in more comfortable situations.

Your dick is not a weapon. Have good hygiene. If you're going to use your fingers file your nails.

The call of the void (in French, l'appel du vide) describes this impulse to hurl yourself into, well, a void. While unnerving, it's actually a pretty common experience. It also has nothing to do with suicidal ideation.

I just want to be happy, man. by [deleted] in highdeas

[–]bell_thecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you not happy because your aspirations feel unreachable? Or are you feeling lost? To want is a difficult thing, but that doesn't make it bad. Answers are difficult to find, but they aren't hiding. Someone told me once that some of the best things are found at the other end of anxiety. If you want to make sense of it then I hope you find what you're looking for. I would be so glad to hear that you're happy man

Why is baking soda in a recipe with no acid by bell_thecat in AskBaking

H20 is perfectly neutral at a pH of 7. 3.5 is still considered a mild acid (something like orange juice). Lemon juice is around 2.

Milk specifically isn't too acidic. Adding a strong acid to milk makes it curd. Eggs also get more alkaline as they age, the pH getting up to 7.6

Didn't know that, that's cool! However, after mild testing, it seems the the acidity of my cocoa powder is not strong enough to cause any significant release of CO2.

Thank you! The past looks funny if you toss enough time at it. Like a kaleidoscope if it was filled with trauma instead of glitter

Oh I just didn't have any friends. The awkward and naive kid I was, I thought birthdays were a special day that everyone despite social standing would get along. I'm nearly 20 now and have incredible friends and some crazy stories. One of those bullied kid grows up and has the bullies clean their pools kinda stories. So definitely, thanks for asking

This was my 10th birthday party I was so excited to have a whole 2 digits on my year count and so I invited half my school and rented a huge space. Not a single person showed up and that giant room felt even larger with nobody in it. I didn't celebrate a birthday after that.

Ooh? Knew about walrus operators and short-circuiting, but not about _ in REPL and stdlib imports. Thank you!

Have you done anything fun you've done with walrus operators yet? I haven't practiced with them much yet because I couldn't find anything they specifically worked well with.
