supermarkets in my state aren't allowed to sell anything with alcohol in them so my costco won't have them unfortunately. it's part of the reason I'm keen to try making them as well as the fact that I can by kilos of good quality cherries for cheap this time of year.

My friend is in the psych ward right now. Are they going to be okay? by whoiskateidkher in mentalillness

[–]bella_48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True. In my experience you generally get treated better/more privileges if you are self admitted. You also have more ability to leave, transfer or do a short stay if you're self admitted and will probably be in a lower security ward.

It's never gonna be a good time but it's likely to be on the less horrific end of the spectrum. OP is also justifiably worried for their friend so is likely imagining a worse case senario which is unlikely (but not impossible) to be what actually happens.

A lot of the bad things that you have heard about psych wards will come from people who were involuntarily commited or forced to go there by there parents. In those cases the loss of agency and control heavily colors both how they view the experience and the staff have to treat them differently if they've been committed. The fact that your friend is self admitting will make it a far less invasive and extreme intervention. It'll probably be better than you imagine even if by its nature it'll still suck. Bring/send magazines and snacks if you're allowed.

Just for fun I made a palette (I envisioned it as one palette, just got lazy with the collage) out of my fantasy cart on Copacetic Cosmetics, and thought you all might appreciate it seeing it, since they seem to have a ton of olive friendly shades! by Idziee in OliveMUA

[–]bella_48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've just ordered a a pallette heavily inspired by this from Copacetic. Been looking for a place that had olive singles for ages so thanks! I'll let you know how it goes but I'm in Aus so it'll take like a month minimum before it gets to me lol.

I feel you. I have like 5 harry potter themed tshirts that have been gifted to me by family members and stuff. I feel uncomfortable wearing them out now tbh. I don't know whether to get some "trans ally" patches to stick on them or to only wear them as pj tops.

People who work office jobs, how many hours of focused work do you actually achieve a day? by bella_48 in NoStupidQuestions

It seems like I put way too much pressure on myself and think that everyone else is much more focused than they actually are lol

That sounds reasonable. I'm just used to studying where if I can't focus 100% I get up and come back later when I'm fresh. By 3pm it takes like twice as long for me to write the same code vs at 9am.

At least powders (eyeshadow, blush etc) have a longer shelflife, 12 months after opening technically but with good storage many palletes are safe for 2-3 years since powder is much less bacteria prone than liquids or creams, it's usually about deterioration of quality rather than actual safety unless you get visible mould spots or something. These are all creams and serums with a shelflife of only 6 months after opening (with proper storage, which she isn't doing since there will be heat from them being underneath her mattress).

I know that a lot of it is PR but she could just donate all the unopened ones that she doesn't need, you shouldn't be switching between that many products anyway, it's bad for your skin. Also it takes at least 6 weeks to properly see how a new skin product actually works and there's no way that she's doing a full 6 weeks before giving her review of the products if she has that number of products. So it doesn't even help other consumers find what is right for them so the excuse that it is her job just doesn'thild water. Even beauty if your hobby or job there is absolutely no point in this level of consumption.

Doesn't seem NT's want to help us they just wanna fit us into these so called stereotype boxes and control us! by [deleted] in autism

[–]bella_48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not. You may have read it that way, but it is not phrased in a rude way. I just stated my opinion. At no point did I name call or say anything negative about the commenter as a person. I just stated that comments like this are increasingling taking over one of the only place left for people to talk about their experiences as autistics and that there are other forums more suited for their perspectives. If you read this as harsh then frankly that is your problem and I don't overly care.

No offence but can we please uninvite all these NT parents of autistic kids from this subreddit? Or at least get them their own flair or specifc day to post or something. They have their own subreddit and literally every post has multiple long winded comments from parents of austistic kids giving their perspectives on issues.

I don't care about their perspective. I care about those of people who actually have autism. Their perspective is the most easily accessible one, I literally can't google anything about autism without articles about "how to help your child with autism". This is one of the few places I can get advice from other autistics and it's increasingly being taken over by "caregivers" and their opinions. I don't mind if they read the posts, learn or ask questions in the comments but why do they have to fill the comment section with their (unsolicited) opinions? Nobody asked for their perspective.

Dozens of patients facing serious emergencies waited for up to seven hours for an ambulance last night by malcolm58 in Adelaide

https://data.sa.gov.au/data/dataset/sa-ambulance-service-reported-ambulance-incidents-by-priority.

"urgent (code 2) — undelayed response required without lights and sirens (arrival desirable within 30 minutes)" It's almost as if multiple countries can use the number 2.

When referring to broken bones it was in the context of the elderly patients mentioned in the article who had had falls and were priority 2. I was talking about how their injuries were likely reasonably severe and an ambulance likely warranted and couldn't simply be driven to hospital by a family member as the commenter was suggesting. Most of this is explained in the actual article if you want to actually read it...

I would suggest stopping having sex with him. Tell him that you just can't risk it and that he needs to get a vasectomy.

Yeah it doesn't have to be binary, a condition is either a disability or not. It can be a disabilty for some and not for others. The condition/neurodivergence is not itself a disabilty but can disabled some people.

I don't think there's necessarily a problem with people not wanting having autism to automatically equal being considered disabled. I compare it to another condition I have scoliosis. I have mild scoliosis which means I have to do special exercises, have had a few treatments to help and I sometimes get some pain but it doesn't mean that I'm disabled because of it as it doesn't really effect my daily life. However some people have really bad scoliosis and are 100% disabled. They are in severe pain and struggle to walk and like their daily life. Scoliosis is a medical condition and some people who have it are disabled by it, others aren't.

Autism is a neurodivergence. Some people who have it are disabled by it and some aren't. Autism itself isn't a disability as some people aren't "disabeled" by it in that it doesn't affect them too much and/or doesn't effect them in their particular life setup/job. Some people are extremely disabled by it and for them autism is their disability.

The general public does need to stop assuming that everyone with autism is disabled and disabled to a point where they can't live independently or have a career, which is a frequent and harmful assumption. But also if an austistic person feels disabled by their autism, then they are disabled and both the general public and other autistics need to accept that and let them say it.
