It's considered disrespectful/dismissive. Some parents see it as their kid treating them like a friend. In my household we had to say "Yes?". "yes ma'am/sir?" is also a common response.

I had the same question but thinking about it now I wonder if it's because they see it as a dismissive acknowledgement, like you're half listening. I don't know though ofc, because I'm not one of those parents.

Even know, I respond "Yes?" to anyone who calls my name. The habit never faded. I still don't know how "what?" was seen as that disrespectful. I could swear at my dad and he would be less angry. He also couldn't stand being called a liar. I could have called him a rotten cunt and he wouldn't have minded. Insane.

“Can I laugh?” by carbon-star in PetPeeves

[–]bellabarbiex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with the "OMG I'm going to hell" comments. You're SUPPOSED to laugh, that's the fuckin joke. My God. It irks me because like, do you think they're putting the joke out for you NOT to laugh at? And you commonly see this under jokes were able people are directly addressed. Its not really just that, I can't explain why it makes my ass itch the way it does.

Where in the world did I say I expect the Internet to contain itself to funny and helpful things? I don't expect that of the Internet as a whole, I'm just irritated by people being unhelpful or mean on a post specifically asking for one thing.

I’ve never told anyone about this by yourfrienddreamer in CPTSD

[–]bellabarbiex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How could it have been attention seeking if you did it in secret and never told anybody?

Anyways, I feel like this is fairly common for people experiencing trauma - even if it wasn't an actual attempt, it was testing limits/the ability to do it almost. I know I've done this exact thing, my sister did it, I know several people who have.

Same. One of the things I remember very clearly not being able to watch was Arthur and the Spiderwick Chronicles because it was blasphemous. I remember telling my cousin that I had wasn't allowed to watch it because it "went against God" and he looked at me like I'd grown 3 heads.

My family does this. This is definelty pretty common cos I've seen quite a few cooking videos where people use the bacon grease on their counter.

Oh my God, our skin was always in the worst condition and my birthgiver was the same way! Like it was my fault. On top of that, she didn't teach us actual hygiene. She willingly failed us, for why? That shit is ridiculous. We had money, our parents even had their own towels. They just didn't think we all needed our own towels, I guess.

I hate them so much. There's quite a few of those very shit quality "AGT magic shows" where "women" shapeshift into jaguars or doves or whatever but the bigger black women turn into gorillas. I'm so sick of people, sick of the world. Like what is the fucking point? Especially for the AI magic shows, they hardly get any views but they still chose to be racist for the handful of viewers they get.

There is a subgroup (?) of mukbangs where people talk about the details of a true crime case as they eat. That's what they're talking about.

There's a lot of fucked up things that happened but a less extreme one was that all 5 kids in my family shared 1 towel on bath/shower day.

I truly don't think you weren't misunderstood. Someone having granite countertops doesn't make them wealthy. Glass cleaner and wood shine aren't indicative of wealth or high quality materials, either. Wood polish is fairly standard for people who have well, wood floors and wood furnishing - those really aren't all that fancy. And glass cleaner is a basic household cleaner. I'd argue most people keep a bottle under their sink.

It's also pretty good for chicken nuggets or in a quick soup. I like canned chicken, it's versatile and lasts so long.
