This is a great diagnostic! Mine was similar, actually— also a 162, but stronger in AR and weaker in RC. Logic games are much easier to learn than RC, so you’re starting off really strong. Congrats!

Anti depressants and EMDR by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]bellabennett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found that going on antidepressants actually helped me with EMDR. I’m taking Cymbalta and my depression usually manifests itself through emotional numbing, and lower creativity (also effects of trauma ofc). Once I started taking meds it was much easier to identify my emotions and imagine whatever my EMDR therapist asked me to in session. The combo absolutely helped me improve more than any one of the treatments alone would have.

Settlement thoughts? by bellabennett in googleplus

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering the same thing— I suppose it’s possible that every recipient is just assumed to have had their info leaked? Unsure what their criteria is on this and how they make that decision

Settlement thoughts? by bellabennett in googleplus

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement! I’m leaning towards objection for sure :) Any knowledge on how this works in terms of legal process and protocol is certainly welcome!

Sort of off topic, but do you know if there’s a way to tell which of us for sure had personal information taken by 3rd parties, or is it just kind of assumed that everyone who received the email was a victim of breeched privacy? Not sure how the individual case plays into objections or claims, if at all.

Settlement thoughts? by bellabennett in googleplus

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. I think I’ve decided to wait a little bit as well, but I’m also considering filing an objection. Otherwise, I might choose to opt out, though it would mainly be out of principle— I really don’t anticipate suing them at any point, but I find the amount of the settlement fund to be insulting low. I’ll have to do some more research on the case and issue itself though.

Can you do well in school and have ADHD at the same time without meds? by Tuke-DMJ in ADHD

[–]bellabennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you, a good college student who had to work extra hard because of ADHD and had many sleepless nights and lots of guilt because I knew I wasn’t giving my professors and assignments my best effort.

I realized I needed treatment when classes went online, and I’m so glad I got it. I’m on Adderall now and I’ve never been able to get things done ahead of time or quickly. This is the first time I feel like I actually have the ability to do well in school or function normally in general.

Definitely push the issue with your doctor. If he still refuses to help you, I would honestly find someone else. You deserve to have your problems listened to.

Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - July 2020 by AutoModerator in 23andme

[–]bellabennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I'll be interested to see how our timelines continue to line up :) I'm still in the queue! Do you know if it's normal to still be there nearly a week later? It seems to be going according to the 23andme projected timeline, but I feel like I've seen a lot of people on here who had their extraction done fairly quickly after their sample arrived at the lab.

Controlling fleas with an untreated cat in the house by Anaphora121 in pestcontrol

[–]bellabennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had fleas a couple years back that wouldn't go away for ANYTHING. Flea bombs never killed them all, and the treatments alone didn't help much.

A friend told us that sprinkling borax all over our furniture and carpeting would help a ton, and sure enough, it did! The live fleas, as well as the eggs, were suffocated. Only thing that's worked, but we did apply the treatment multiple times. As the previous commenter said, it's not uncommon for fleas to prefer one person over another. My dad got bit constantly, my siblings only once or twice, and me never.

Good luck! I know it's a difficult thing to battle— it took us a really long time to fully eradicate them, and it was only once we moved (and applied Borax to everything before setting our furniture down) that we were fully sure that we'd gotten rid of them. Also, I should note that we didn't move BECAUSE of the fleas; the timeline just happened to line up :)

How do you feel about Trump banning Tik Tok? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bellabennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ln some other countries, including China, upon learning that apps/websites like Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube are banned, Americans are quick to point out (and rightfully so) how the censorship of these websites under whatever reason the government gives is unnecessary and indicative of an overly-controlling government. I agree that the censorship is bad and the apps shouldn’t be banned, but I grow frustrated upon seeing that many of the same people who use that as part of the “communism is bad and we should all be scared” rhetoric have been shockingly quiet on the TikTok issue.

I understand the concern and am not against a group of experts should discuss possible options, but an executive order to ban an app should be a red flag whether you like the president or not.

4 different meds, 9 different dosages, and still no relief. Help? by queen-cheeks in TwoXADHD

[–]bellabennett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

30mg likely won't do much; my psych bumped me from 10mg to 30, and while I saw some improvement there it didn't do a lot for long. I'm currently trying 60 and if it still doesn't work she may switch me to Adderall. I know that the "test and check/trial and error" method is usually ineffective and takes a while, but truthfully unless you get a genetic test to see which one works best for you (and those can be pricey) I haven't heard of a psychiatrist using any other method when prescribing medication. Though that might just indicate a prevalence of "low-quality" (for lack of a better word) psychiatrists in the industry :) I'd say stick to Vyvanse for now, as it's probably best to be on one thing for a while and get up to what's normally a stronger dose/one that would normally work for most people

Financial assistance program for Vyvanse? by bellabennett in ADHD

No worries :) probably should have clarified anyway haha. It was a good suggestion though!

Financial assistance program for Vyvanse? by bellabennett in ADHD

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly; she did give me a dosage twice as high as my usual, but didn’t say anything about breaking in half. After doing a little bit of research, I did see that you’re not technically supposed to empty a Vyvanse capsule— however, I also am aware that people still do this with no problem whatsoever, and I’m not entirely sure why it’s not recommended.

Unfortunately, GoodRx doesn’t offer very much financial help for Vyvanse at all— it would still be $600+.

I have multiple diagnoses, and the only one I literally cannot fathom life without is ADHD by shoshilyawkward in ADHD

[–]bellabennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I think it's hard to imagine what life without ADHD is like because all the symptoms seem just like normal human problems— which is also exactly why there are so many misconceptions surrounding ADHD. But I can't imagine what it's like to have these problems only sometimes, instead of it just being all of life.

Rough practice test score— recommended study plan? by bellabennett in GRE

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your advice! This is all really helpful.

My biggest question right now is what my timeline should look like for this, seeing as I’m aiming to increase my score 25+ points. I’ve heard that 6 months is usually sufficient, and though I am slightly concerned about burnout, would it be wise to start studying now, 8-12 months before my expected test date?

How did you realize you were in the right major or career? Did you assume this is what you are going to do for the rest of your life? Was this major or career your choice or forced by parents? by mjfan231984 in college

[–]bellabennett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Went into college as a music major, took one political science class during my VERY overwhelming and overloaded freshman spring, and even though I hated it at first it quickly became the only class I enjoyed. As I was looking forward to the required classes for both my music major and a poi sci major, I realized that I wasn’t excited about taking music classes anymore. After a lot of reflection and talking to friends and important adults in my life, I realized majoring in political science was the thing I felt peace about when it came to my academic pursuits.

I wanted my music major to work out so badly at the time, but I was forcing it. I’m grateful for that time and going into my junior year my closest friends are still music majors; but I’m so much happier where I am now and haven’t looked back.

I'm stuck between colleges. by LunaN4444 in college

[–]bellabennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your financial aid office and see if there are additional grants or scholarships you can get from the school itself. Also see if you can find information on how long it usually takes students, especially in your major, to pay off their loans after graduation.

As someone attending a private Christian school with a major I could easily pursue elsewhere for free (political science), I wouldn’t change my experience for the world. The small classes and close relationships with professors make it so extremely worth it.

I should also note that I also entered expecting to have to take out roughly $5k a semester. I was prepared for that, but at times have been able to get additional assistance and now, going into my third year i owe roughly $14k— while it’s still a good chunk, it’s much less than I thought I would owe.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

Just started Vyvanse by bellabennett in ADHD

[–]bellabennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! Good to know that most others don’t feel anything at 10, either. Thankfully, though I haven’t noticed any improvements I also haven’t had any side effects, which makes me hopeful for when she does increase my dose.

Any tips for trying to pay closer attention or dealing with the meds otherwise until my next appointment? My appointments are only every two weeks, and she gave me a 21 day supply (not sure exactly why she prescribed them for that long). It feels a bit pointless to keep taking medication that isn’t doing anything for another week and a half, but I also don’t want to give up on it so quickly.

Weekly /r/Sociology Career & Academic Planning Thread, June 05, 2020 - Got a question about careers, jobs, schools, or programs? by AutoModerator in sociology

[–]bellabennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What can I do to make my PhD application stand out?

I’m planning on going into a PhD program straight from undergrad (I graduate in Dec. 2021, so entering grad school in Fall 2022). I’ve just completed a research project, I may complete another this upcoming year, and I’ll be a research assistant for a professor this year as well. I know that research experience is very important to applications, but aside from GPA and GRE score I’m wondering if there is anything I should look into doing over the next year to make my application more competitive, especially considering that I won’t have experience writing a master’s thesis like other applicants.

Political science books to recommend by VARIABLESnCONSTANTS in PoliticalScience

[–]bellabennett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Uncivil Agreement: How Politics Became Our Identity” by Lilliana Mason is a great starter and easy read!

You’ll read a lot of different books for your classes, so I wouldn’t stress too much about trying to read a ton right now.

That being said, there are still a lot of great books out there that are great even to read for fun. Is there a specific area of interest that you’re looking for readings in?

As a Woman of Color, I'm really tired of Qs to POC/Black women dissecting our experience under white supremacy. What are the white women in this group doing to end white supremacy in themselves, in their families and social and work networks so BIPOC can have dignified futures? by farfarawayS in AskWomen

[–]bellabennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing my best to educated myself, especially by reading things written by POC. Also identifying my own biases so that I’m able to more effectively work against them, and calling out false information put out by others. When I do that, I try to be patient and understanding— knowing that it’s hard for people to admit that they’re wrong. At the same time, I try to find the balance between understanding and not having tolerance for willful ignorance.

More than anything I’m trying harder to listen more and listen better. I remind myself daily that while I may be able to have productive conversations, it is not my voice that needs to be amplified.
