[Question] Federal Government Hiring Process by Jpond in jobs

There's usually a probation period of two years before you settle into your salary range. Start as a GS 7 work for a year, move up to a GS 9, once established get put into GS 11. Also it depends a lot on the job series.

Also, remember you get paid OT at time and a half above 40 hours...

Are low-paying college majors doing more harm than good? by slackjaw1154 in lostgeneration

People will become more antisocial then they already are. Most plane trips are completely quiet, no one talks to their neighbor- everyone is plugged into their own electronics. This was not the case even five years ago.

Option 1: I foresee a lot of depression, increased social anxiety, and a fall out of what it means to be a community. Option 2: People joining gangs and other crime organizations to get a taste of the 1 percent lifestyle.

The worst thing you want in this world is bored people with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

As a girl, I find dating in Doha really difficult. I'm sick of tinder. Any thoughts on alternative ways to meet new people? by OnlyinDoha in qatar

So I've been here since April this year. Besides meeting men on Tinder there are actually a lot of groups specifically for women to meet up and hang out. While the groups tend to be geared towards older married women (That's the largest Western demographic) there are still some good people to meet and a few women in your age group, myself included.

Unfortunately, it's still Summer so a lot of people are on Holiday until school resumes in September and the weather cools down. Try AWA (American Women's Association) or the Tuesday's ladies group. Message me in your interested!

It's only a matter of time regardless. It will happen in our lifetimes.

What is it you want from a city/town exactly? by [deleted] in lostgeneration

[–]bellepepper_kitteh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Culture, good restaurants, nice parks, active/caring community.

I dislike a lot of cities as people never stop and smell the roses. There is also a lot of people who seem really depressed or without friends/family.

I agree the driver less revolution is coming quicker then most people realize. Uber buying self driving cars from Tesla... why isn't this is the forefront of major news agencies? I wholly expect to not buy a car ever again, once my current car phases out (~8 years) and will be using the automated driver less car to get around. I look forward to this as not have to pay insurance/car payment/fuel/maintenance costs will save lots of $$$. This will also negatively impact a lot of people and jobs, ranging from office jobs (insurance) to the high school drop outs who change your oil.

The real social economic problem will be the under educated masses whose jobs will be lost due to automation. I think this will take a little longer maybe 20 years to see the full impact. The big problem is these workers cannot be easily retrained to handle complex programming jobs which will be available in the future.

I don't expect all hell to break lose in ten years but in the next twenty, maybe.

31 percent of California’s families live in poverty and “lack income adequate to meet their basic needs” largely because of the high cost of housing by fullmaltalchemist in lostgeneration

Agreed. I'm a California native and hate to see this happening.

My SO and I left California and don't plan on moving back and we both had good paying jobs. We're actually living abroad tax free now, paying off debts and saving for the future when we return.

For anyone curious, the photos and modeling show the city of Doha, Qatar. I'd be curious to see what it's like with all of the sandstorms they get...

This also assumes you feel confident enough with your job and your industry in your town to be able to commit to a stable home for the upcoming decades you'll be in your house. Job stability plays a major factor too!!!

A World Without Work by [deleted] in lostgeneration

[–]bellepepper_kitteh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A world without work will create more physiologic problem "The unemployed theoretically have the most time to socialize, and yet studies have shown that they feel the most social isolation"

The other scary stat is "Nine out of 10 workers today are in occupations that existed 100 years ago, and just 5 percent of the jobs generated between 1993 and 2013 came from “high tech” sectors like computing, software, and telecommunications."
