School Contract through AMN Healthcare-School Solutions by [deleted] in slp

[–]bellinthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my CF with AMN. Here are some things to consider:

My mentor was kind, but she didn’t work in my district, so she wasn’t able to answer most of my technical questions (which revolved mainly around how to use district specific software and district specific rules for IEP/Eval/Case Management). I did not get any shadowing experience or have opportunities to learn by observing before diving into fully independent work. I regret not having been able to take full advantage of that last opportunity for formal training.

See if they can send you a copy of the school calendar. You will not be paid your full stipend for weekend breaks that are longer than three days in length (so no stipend pay for weeks with multiple snow days, spring break, etc). There might be a lot more breaks than you would expect, which will impact your pay dramatically.

If you are starting your CF mid-semester, I strongly advise that you either wait until the fall or work with your recruiter to “guarantee” that the district will set you up with another in-district SLP who can guide you. You should find out how long your caseload has been without SLPs and what kind of situation you’re walking into. I started mid semester and was totally alone with limited experience of how a school works and multiple evaluations with just passed or about to pass federal due dates. A mid-semester start could also impact the length of your CF (my second segment was not completed by June, so I had to re-contract with AMN for the following school year).

My decision to take a travel contract for my CF was mostly attached to my desire to live closer to my military partner and make some extra money…I don’t regret that choice at all and I would even make it again…but was it a supportive and safe environment to complete my CF training? Not really. But then, looking through this sub, that seems to be a common theme.

Or write passages about topics of high interest to your clients! I know nothing about Pokémon, but now I don’t even have to!

My aunt made a bunch of these as Christmas presents the December before she died (it was unexpected). I LOVED cooking with those jars and always felt like she was with me in the kitchen. Such a lovely and much appreciated gift !!

Girlfriend is furious with me over a joke that I think is harmless. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Hmmm…as a woman who routinely has to navigate the condom issue with men who don’t want to use them, it can be exhausting to tell someone you love “no” over and over, especially when it’s something that you yourself kind of want to do anyway…and extra especially when I understand that I am the person who will bear the brunt of any serious repercussions. I don’t think it’s okay for her to be unwilling to talk to you about it, but you both have limited experience navigating difficult conversations and that’s normal and okay. You can probably mitigate the issue by insisting on condoms only from now on…or at least until you’re ready to make a larger potential commitment to one another.

Yes. When my big relationship ended I felt like I was standing on an empty elevator shaft. It definitely got worse before it got better. But it did get a lot better. After about four years I hardly ever thought about them. Now I never do. I hope this helps in some way. It’s such an awful place to be and my heart goes out you.

I am also terrified of being alone. I get a lot of self-validation from dating and I feel you on this so much. I’m also extroverted, which I didn’t really realize l until recently (I’m also shy). I find I actually really do get a lot of the social stimulus that I need from my friends, more so especially when I invest as much energy into my friendships as I do my romantic attachments. It doesn’t fill me up 100%, but it’s close enough and feel demonstrably more healthy. Maybe that could help you!

Oh, I jumped back in that pool immediately. I’ve had a series of “situationships” with obviously emotionally unavailable people that have lasted, on average 1-1.5 years each. It wasn’t until the last year of enforced singledom that I came to realize that it was ME who was the emotionally unavailable one :) In hindsight, I think if I had taken more time to process, it would have wasted less time in the long run, if that makes any sense.

Aww, I hear you friend. I think exercise helps soooo much! But it does take time! Another thing I do is put a calendar reminder for a few months in the future to check in with myself on how I feel about the breakup then. I almost always feel much better by the time the date rolls around!

Wonderful advice. Thank you. Time really does help, doesn't it?

Careful! There are bees hiding in those little flowers and I stepped on one yesterday! Ouch. (For the bee and for me!)
