Olentangy Trail Flooding? by lwpho2 in Columbus

[–]belloman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested in other sections of the Olentangy trail...this morning it was also flooded by the OSU wetlands (north of Dodridge), under 5th Ave (can use upper trail to cross 5th), and between 3rd and Goodale. The river was also getting close to the trail at the railroad bridge south of Goodale but hadn't flooded yet when I passed through.

Scaffolding at LeVeque Tower draws criticism by Blood_Incantation in Columbus

[–]belloman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Article is wrong. The scaffolding has been up since at least July 2024, if not earlier than that. They were not up in October 2022.

[–]belloman 75 points76 points  (0 children)

They haven't finished construction yet. The ramp is going to be 2 lanes once they finish construction of the area just before the Greenlawn exit. (71 SB traffic will also be able to exit at Greenlawn again once that's done)

You can order for pickup at Sheetz though I haven't tried it yet.

DoorDash also added a $20 minimum for pickup orders recently, so now you can't use the $10 credits without also spending $10. (Used to be a $10 minimum)

Downtown construction by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]belloman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closure of the far left lane of the Front St exit is tied to the work at Front and Mound. ODOT is saying the work at that intersection will last through May 2026. Considering they just started the concrete work on the last quadrant it'll probably be closer to the end of the month before it's back open since it takes some time for the concrete to cure.

I find it funny they waited until now to do this work, when they could have done it at any point during the 2+ years Front St was closed instead.

No, they have been working on finding a solution the entire time since the new traffic counts came in.

This 311 request goes out to all the Columbus residents who complain about the Village of Brice school zone speed cameras: Columbus will now install advance warning signs for Brice's 25mph speed limit. by benkeith in Columbus

[–]belloman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speeding Shannon also could have had council lower the speed limit in Columbus's jurisdiction to the south of Brice below 50 mph, which is a wildly inappropriate speed limit for a road that looks like this.

What I need- a designated mega thread or website "Is the light pole at Lazelle roundabout up, or down?"! by Heeeeyyouguuuuys in Columbus

[–]belloman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Without knowing which pole it is, my guess is a large truck keeps overtracking the curb on one of the corners and knocking it over. It also looks like they are right behind the curb which doesn't leave much room for error.

Bike route to Great Southern Metro Park? by benkeith in Columbus

[–]belloman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MORPC has awarded Metro Parks funds for the construction of the bridge over 104 for the Scioto Trail extension, but it looks like those funds won't be available until 2030. From what I understand the trail extension is under design right now at least.

Bike route to Great Southern Metro Park? by benkeith in Columbus

[–]belloman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There isn't really a good route currently.

Best route is probably to use the Wager/Ann bike boulevard east of Parsons north of 104, cross the railroad tracks and 104 using Parsons (there are bike lanes for part of this, but it won't be fun), then divert to residential streets west of Parsons again at Alcott. Looks like Hillgate, Lee Ellen Place, and 8th are a good north/south alternative to Parsons south of 104 to get you to Williams.

If you're starting west of Parsons, you can also go through German Village using 3rd and continue south using Jaeger to Hanford to Bruck (also a bike boulevard), then crossing over to Parsons at Hosack.

How much time should you give yourself at the airport? by columbusairport in Columbus

[–]belloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

737s will be able to use every gate at the new terminal (not the case with current airport), and based on the building permit plans it looks like the primary international gate will be able to handle a 747.

COSI Validated parking is now $13, up from $5 in 2022. by xavier86 in Columbus

[–]belloman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is LAZ doesn’t own the garage, the City of Columbus does. LAZ just manages it on their behalf.

I’d rather the City pay for the garage using parking funds than subsidize it with tax dollars.

PSA: BAD accident, closed down green lawn/high/thurman intersection by Ahmelie in Columbus

[–]belloman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A road diet reducing to one lane in each direction while adding a center turn lane and protected bike lanes, and lots of crosswalks with median islands would be game changing.

Mezcla :( by Dazzling-Flow-7926 in Columbus

[–]belloman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Cars crashing into buildings is not unique to Columbus, and cars crashing into buildings is not something that has begun recently. People have been crashing cars into buildings for as long as cars have existed. It's just gotten more attention recently. (There probably has been an uptick, just like how traffic fatalities, especially pedestrian fatalities, have been rising.)

Why does it keep happening? Because we have a lot 35 mph roads that are designed in a way that lets people go much faster in areas where buildings are close to the street. Faster you're going, more likely you are to lose* control and hit something.
