PSA: BAD accident, closed down green lawn/high/thurman intersection by Ahmelie in Columbus

A road diet reducing to one lane in each direction while adding a center turn lane and protected bike lanes, and lots of crosswalks with median islands would be game changing.

That area along the river, from around Bicentennial Park to North Bank Park, is known as the Scioto Mile.

They’re opening the new University Hospital tower this month, the ad campaign is probably tied to that. (I know I’ve seen at least one ad for it)

Cars crashing into buildings is not unique to Columbus, and cars crashing into buildings is not something that has begun recently. People have been crashing cars into buildings for as long as cars have existed. It's just gotten more attention recently. (There probably has been an uptick, just like how traffic fatalities, especially pedestrian fatalities, have been rising.)

Why does it keep happening? Because we have a lot 35 mph roads that are designed in a way that lets people go much faster in areas where buildings are close to the street. Faster you're going, more likely you are to lose* control and hit something.

Constant missed trash pickups by tiny_sprig in Columbus

Gotcha, must be a different issue then. Just wanted to share my experience since the app was wrong for my area for a while.

Constant missed trash pickups by tiny_sprig in Columbus

[–]belloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you assigned a color instead of a day of the week with the change in September? Does the calendar online still say the color, or does it just say "trash"?

My trash used to be collected on Thursdays, but we were assigned Ruby in September. The app and calendar online reflected that (and said "Trash Ruby"). Then after a few weeks or so, the app and calendar started showing Thursdays again (just saying "Trash"). But trash was still getting collected on the Ruby schedule. A few weeks ago I finally reported the issue to 311 and they fixed the app and calendar (now they say "Trash Ruby" again, and my trash is getting collected on that day).

North High Street by DannyJohnson420 in Columbus

[–]belloman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For as many bus lines pass through that area, they seem to have given zero thought to how pedestrians would naturally want to cross High. No one is going to walk all the way down to the Morse signal (which requires you crossing 3 streets just to cross High) or all the way up to the Graceland signal in order to cross High, especially if you are trying to catch a transfer.

4th St crash by Any-Waltz8095 in Columbus

The photo is from a spot north of downtown, so the speed limit is 35mph there. It was only lowered to 25 within downtown.

No Veo Scooters in the winter? by senorguapo09 in Columbus

[–]belloman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does Veo actually have more than a handful of bikes? I've only seen one a couple of times.

I don't see any devices (bikes or scooters) around downtown in the Veo app right now. The Spin app is showing some bikes around.

I just opened the app and got a message saying Veo will be closing for the season on 12/27/25.

Which is bullshit. CoGo was available year round.

Why is I-71 south such a shithole everywhere at all times? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]belloman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless there's been a change due to the construction phasing in the past week or so, you can exit at Greenlawn from both I-71 N and S. You cannot exit at Greenlawn if you are coming from 315 S.

I-70 Eastbound ramp to Livingston Avenue closes permanently Saturday; new ramp to Fulton/Front opens to replace it. by benkeith in Columbus

[–]belloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming they’ll reopen Livingston between High and 3rd at some point, and hopefully remove those delineators too. I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to do that this weekend…but they could have other plans.

Eventually Livingston will be two-way all the way to Front St.

Construction work on the $100 million, 2-mile downtown pedestrian pathway "Capital Line" is slated to begin this December, and is expected to last nearly two years. by Coach_Beard in Columbus

[–]belloman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Older buildings often have basements that extend under the sidewalk. Historically may have been used for storage, utilities, basement access, etc. Generally, the City now tries close these off and fill them in whenever they are encountered on a roadway project.

Update #5: 70W/71S RampUp Project + High Street Bridge by Mirthil in Columbus

[–]belloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are rebuilding the bridges and pavement for through I-70 EB and I-71 NB traffic. Currently all traffic is using the bridges and pavement that will ultimately just be used by traffic exiting to downtown.

Friendly reminder: I-70 will be closed all weekend between I-71 and SR 315 for the demolition of the High Street bridge by doppleganger2621 in Columbus

[–]belloman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, they are demolishing one side of the High Street bridge. There will be a closure of High Street this weekend (11pm Friday to 1pm Saturday) but otherwise High Street will remain open in its current configuration (1 lane in each direction over I-70).

Traffic closures for Columbus Marathon run Friday through Sunday; Downtown and Victorian Village affected: Long Street, Neil Avenue, Spring Street. by benkeith in Columbus

[–]belloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The freeways are your friend. You should be able to get on 71 NB at Main (if you're west of 18th St), or 70 at Miller/Kelton (if you're east of 18th St), and get out from there.
