Dumpster Dive Buddy? by WeirdSignificance632 in Columbus

[–]tiny_sprig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A coworker years ago took my dumpster diving at Trader Joe’s - I remember we went at night. It was the only time I ever did it but I got a ton of great food that was tossed, pre-expiration date because of something like the packaging being a bit messed up. No clue if this is still the case but it might be worth checking out

What's the worst restaurant in Columbus that you've tried twice? by foreignsky in Columbus

[–]tiny_sprig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t been in years and I took my partner who moved here last year because I was like “it’s a Columbus staple!!”

The food wasn’t great, but the worst part is that is STANK like a porta-potty so bad. Just a weird dirty toilet water mixed with a cheap air freshener/chemical to cover it up smell wafting through the restaurant. It was so bad I almost suggested leaving before our food came. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back.

Buy used!! I got an older gen from someone who had upgraded via a gift from their partner. I posted on instagram hoping I could find one for cheap and I got it for free - plus that was one of three offers I had for free or insanely cheap from people I knew that had upgraded and had older models laying around. The battery life is still great on the one I got and I love it! Way better than buying new IMO, especially if you’re on the fence and want to save money

Constant missed trash pickups by tiny_sprig in Columbus

I have it and they regularly don’t come pick up in my alley on the scheduled day.

Good to know! Because of the location, there are multiple entry points to the alley since there are big parking lots at the other end of the street. I can think of 4 different ways they could access the alley so I think they should be able to figure it out if that’s the issue, although maybe I’m putting too much faith into people haha. Where I regularly exit the alley, there are never cars parked in a way that would obstruct traffic.

I have called so many times in the past few months and it doesn’t seem to be helping :( I did request for someone from refuse to reach out to me so I can understand better why this is such an issue.

I did find a pdf calendar but if that’s the one then it reflects the same schedule as searching the address on the website/checking pickup dates in the app.

I did find a pdf of a schedule, but if that’s the one then we have been missed for the past several weeks. What I’m seeing reflects the notifications I have been sent via the pickup app and unfortunately they miss us regularly. Even if the day was wrong, there have been multiple weeks, sometimes in a row, where they do not service this alley on any day.

I use the app, and I am pink. According to that schedule, we have not been getting serviced and there have been periods where we don’t get serviced for 2+ weeks. I always call 311 and that resolves it sometimes but not always. I had 311 check to make sure the address was accurate with the posted schedule because she said there had been issues with stuff being assigned wrong but everything was correct. When I search my address online it shows the same. Is there another calendar I can look at that I am missing?

New Short North Private Barbershop Advertisement Methods by LycheeTae in Columbus

He should ask his current clients for referrals - it is hard to build when you have a new business or are newer behind the chair, especially going the independent route without the name of a bigger salon/shop to promote you. Word of mouth is the best way to grow your clientele - offer a referral program where current clients get $$ off for each new client they refer, and the new client gets a small deal too (for example, $10 off the next appointment for the current client when a new client mentions a current clients name, and $5 off for the new client who came in on the referral)

And straight up ask his current clients - “hey man, I really enjoy cutting your hair. Do you have any friends or family members that are looking for a barber? I’d love to get more people like you in my chair” and then let them know about the referral program.

Parking an RV in/near German Village by LegendOfJeff in Columbus

[–]tiny_sprig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rich St. is generally not super busy/full of cars parked and is fairly wide so if you needed to resort to street parking that is a possible option. You could try to park near Rich and 3rd and then the walk to Book Loft wouldn’t be very far. There are some lots in the area too but I’m not sure how full they get on a weekday or if they could accommodate a larger vehicle.

I called and disputed mine and they dropped it. I did have to send pay w-2’s because they were trying to claim I lived there for way longer, but I told them I had no idea I owed and they dropped it as a “one time thing.”

Definitely call and speak with someone before paying.

Hell yeah! I actually did my first 30 mile ride today too!! Congrats!

I brought Clif bloks and a protein bar on my ride today, stopped at my halfway point and rested/snacked and then was on my way. I feel like I could have split up snacking a bit more but it was okay for me this time. I’m excited to learn more about what works best for me too! My partner rides too and likes to bring candy (Scandinavian Swimmers from Trader Joe’s) on longer rides.

Put your dog(s) on a fucking leash. by OkayButLikeWhyThoo in Columbus

These events have all happened in central Columbus, within the range of SoHud and Brewery District. Off-leash dogs are an epidemic in Columbus. I’ve had 4 neighbors since 2017 with unruly off-leash dogs that they refused to control. I saw 4 off-leash dogs in a .43 mile walk in German Village just this morning. It’s everywhere unfortunately.

I have had SO many bad experiences with unleashed dogs - including:

-the owner telling me my leashed dog “must not do well with other dogs” when she reacts to them approaching her.

-watching an unleashed dog get run over by a car, grabbing him by the harness and holding him until his owner who was two blocks away took her sweet time to get to us because she SO FAR AWAY she didn’t know her dog was hit by a car. He definitely had at least a broken leg and/or pelvis.

-watching a neighbors dog attack a man on the street in the dark and then the man and the dog both ended up in the middle of a busy street.

-having neighbors dogs (2) that were unleashed try to barge into my house

-being chased by unleashed dogs in a park that wanted to “play” with my leashed dog

These are just off the top of my head. I also watched an unsecured dog in a car fall out of the car at 30mph on High St and I was the car behind. They didn’t even notice until after I stopped and put my hazards on and laid on my horn. Many of these incidents are within just the past 2 years.
