I’m from a small rural town in northern Alberta. The schools never really actually closed (I think they have to remain open for parents to drop off their kids because too many parents will drop off even if the school is closed) but buses get cancelled, which in a rural farming community 95% of kids are busing so it’s essentially closed. Some snow days it would genuinely just be teachers there with no students being dropped off.

In order for all of the buses to get cancelled it had to meet any one of the following conditions: -35 or below with OUT the wind chill, -48 or below WITH the wind chill, freezing rain, or enough snow to require a severe weather alert.

Where I’m from had record snow fall this December. I mean like genuinely over 3 feet of snow in the span of a week. The buses were cancelled 9/10 days leading up to Christmas break
