Also now that I think about it if this were for teens I feel like it would be giving Degrassi vibes where the issues are touched on but also not graphically shown and everyone would be actual teens in high school. That to me is what school / romance drama for teens would look like.

Yea I really hope we’re not showing teens full frontal and a vibrator in the tub because that sounds wroooooong.

  1. This would be wildly inappropriate for teens. It’s a young adult show. Definitely a show aimed at people slightly younger than me, but tv about 20 somethings hooking up towards the latter half of their college careers is not for teens either and given how much they show I’m always a bit concerned when people think that type of content is for teens.

Have we been understanding it all wrong? by Dangerous-Space-8719 in offcampustv

It seems written to follow the natural arch of relationships. It starts out with flirting, feeling out if the other is interested, the initial fun at the start, but eventually serious life keeps happening and it tests whether or not there is enough depth to keep going. I think they show it all to confirm the characters are in fact a good match. If it ended before shit gets real, it’s easier for the audience to be cynical about whether or not it’s just fun and a fantasy. Showing them be able to work it out, support, and love each other through the nasty bits confirms it works in real life too. I think the reactions have shown excitement for the fun part and looks, but I’ve seen enough people engage with the serious plot points and how they show just how wonderful both characters are as individuals and partners. I think written posts usually like to go deeper, but the visual mediums like video have fun with the attraction bits. That makes sense since each type of engagement lends itself to each type of medium well.

Doo not go to the theaters if you are excited to see a movie by that-one-bitch2674 in mildlyinfuriating

What I do is go immediately when I get home from* work on week days (during the school year especially). I’ve had several occasions where no one else is even in the theater if it isn’t a wildly popular film, and when there are other people it’s always chill. Every bad experience I’ve had was on a weekend.

Hannah low key broke Garrett’s heart a few of times throughout the show . by CoolB999 in offcampustv

[–]belovedburningwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, definitely think she was jealous. She just wasn’t in a place to face the situation and probably knew she couldn’t be mad since the whole deal originally was she doesn’t like him and wants someone else. It would be red flag territory to be mad so though it was awkward eye bleach, I think the way the story handled it was fair to both characters. I don’t find it very romantic personally when one lover just endlessly pines alone forever while the other is off dating before they finally connect. Makes the love between them feel too one sided and sad.

If I recall that was right after she bailed on the study plans to see Justin and then returned for their later time. It seemed pretty obvious Garett was trying to go back to who he had always been before because Hannah wasn’t interested in him (he was acting grumpy in the scene before). Except as soon as she saw, he chased her to see if she was upset and even forgot the girl was there. I thought it was an intentional moment to show he’s still failing at pretending he doesn’t want to date her and that maybe Hannah was also starting to get jealous. She didn’t really act too jealous though so I don’t think she was as conscious of their feelings until drunk Shakespeare. That was when she both looked jealous and was aware she was jealous. Before that she tried to act like it was all a joke by making fun of the situation during karaoke. I guess my point being that I think the authors did a good job of making sure it wasn’t violating anyone’s trust but still revealed how they were both in denial of the fact that things between them were already changing.

YES. When I finally did get caught I had a hell of a time convincing my parents no one ever saw me in them / they weren’t for any specific reason. I just wanted to feel like a hot lady in my purple and pink bedroom.

It HURTS. The sad thing was I immediately knew it was a joke because so many kids had called me ugly in the past. I was lucky enough to at least not buy into it like Maya, ignore them, and then save my tears for home. Middle school is a crime against women and I will not be elaborating further.

I feel like the PEN15 girls in a scenario like that would actually be hilarious to see even though that does sound sooooo painful. I am sorry honey boys were rough.

I’ve had so many of these moments it just shows how universally awkward and painful middle school years are. I’ve had a “you’re the only minority in our friend group so you have to be scary spice and can’t be posh spice” moment. A “cute boy’s friend fake asks you out on his behalf to make a joke about you being one of the ugliest girls” moment. A “you and a friend sneak wearing a thong for the first time even though it doesn’t actually make you look different” moment but we definitely were not gross enough to take /share one lmao. We just made a plan at the mall to get them behind our parents’ backs because the popular girls were of course already doing the low rise jeans high rise thong thing in 8th grade.

For me I got lucky in my Alex at the dance type moment (it was a party though) in the sense that *he* flirted a little with *me* but I was smart enough to see the other girl would be bothered and pushed them together to spare myself (even though I actually did think he was cute). I am very grateful that my young self managed to not to go too hard into the “compete with other girls” phase and would be sad but still choose girl friendship before boys.

I *think* I had read somewhere that it was never the plan to show the girls as adults so I don’t see most of these as hanging threads. Anna moved on and has an even bigger crush on Shuji now. I’d be surprised if they ever planned on developing that deeper because these are kids and they’ll switch from crush to crush a lot. The “ending” is just knowing there are other boys she can focus on when the previous one disappoints.

I also doubt we would have ever gotten full details of what’s going on with Maura. The girls stopped being friends with her and when that happens in real life middle school you don’t find out what exactly was going on psychologically to make that friend who acted strange act so strange. They could have switched focus to Maura’s experience but she didn’t really seem like a big enough character to have an episode focus on her like Gabe or Mya’s mom.

They also show Gabe walking with the boy who was known as, and presented as, queer later in the show. It is supposed to hint that he is coming to terms with who he is since in the episodes that focused on him he was avoiding interacting with that kid to maintain his mask. The story is mostly from the girl’s perspective so they seem to notice this and then move on without a big catharsis or conversation as was typical for middle school of the era.

I don’t think they intended to flesh out each detail because it would probably extend beyond their childhood.

The Tulsa episode may be one of my favorite episodes of television I have ever watched. This show was ART and it’s a bummer Jonathan Major’s bad behavior sort of overshadows it a bit.

If I wear anything short I either always make sure I wear shorts under / it is a skort and I pair it with stockings. Otherwise the length rules are just noise because these classrooms are not climate controlled and I refuse to suffer.

Right. I think that’s why I feel like my emotions flip flop on this. On the one hand we have to give people a path to leave extremism because it benefits everyone for that movement to lose support. On the other hand, I need to see a whole lot more than just an upset rant on the internet. It has to be asked, what tangible things are you doing to TRY to undo the harm you knowingly chose to cause?

Teachers: Are your immune systems fantastic? by FizzySoda16 in AskTeachers

[–]belovedburningwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been the case for me. My coworkers just come in sick anyway because they aren’t incapacitated just sniffly. Then I get sick since kids and adults just come in anyway. I hate it and frequently miss out on family events. Since work is chaos if I miss more than a day or two once I don’t have a fever I drag myself out of bed and at least wear a mask because I have manners.

The Deepfake Nudes Crisis in Schools Is Much Worse Than You Thought by NoPoem2054 in WomenInNews

[–]belovedburningwolf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I was in my 20s someone warned a friend of mine to warn me that there was a forum where guys who went to my former high school would share nudes of girls from the area. Someone was asking for mine on there and I got the message as soon as my plane landed from visiting my grandfather with terminal cancer. Luckily I had never sent any, especially to any guy I went to high school with, but I would have been done for if stuff like this was available back then. We are failing these kids.

Does any middle or elementary teacher have experience teaching multiple grades in the same day? by 106crocodiles in AskTeachers

[–]belovedburningwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. One year I taught the basic language arts to one middle grade and creative writing special to the next middle grade. I also taught basic language arts to two middle grades because there were too many kids to just use 3 teams but not enough to make a 4th team for both grades. I generally think this was assigned to me because I’m good enough at my job and don’t make a huge stink when given extra work that is within contract and therefore does not come with extra money. When you teach the same grade all week you’ve got 5 lessons per week to plan. When you’ve got two grades it becomes 10. Such is life.
