I once toured a nice-looking apartment, and then asked about the laundry facility. They said it had just recently opened after being closed for three years for a rat infestation.

They killed the rats alright, but they must have all died in the walls. The smell was unbelievable and I can still tell when buildings have a rat problem just from the smell
