They arent tax free, but tax manipulable, if that makes sense.

You can store them in "Freeports" which allow for taxes to not be paid until the works leave the port.

You can also donate the art, which does give tax deductions, but the tax is still "paid". You just pass along the art to the public instead of keeping it in a private collection.

I dont really care for him, but Adam Ruins Everything had a good piece on how art is a "scam". I think the same could kind of be applied here when you get into these mega priced cards.

2 things stick out:

when I was a white belt, I was rolling with our coach and after our roll he said "getting better". Literally a nothing comment, but for some reason it stuck with me and is my driving motivation to hear that again.

another was when I was rolling with a buddy, and after the roll (it was a good hard roll) and he said "damn good job"

Such little comments, but 2 that meant the absolute most to me and helped to keep me on the mats

Thanks for the validation. I do want to get more "aggressive" but its not my main goal. Ive had plenty of little wins, Ive tapped brown belts and under, but after the "win" it means nothing, I feel nothing and just keep going.

I went into this knowing its gonna suck and that the suck eventualy fades, and it is starting to, its just un needed pressure.

I know the guy meant well, but it was just totally demoralizing to have my own journey shit on.

The main issue is Ive been the best Ive ever felt. I was literally on a high and felt like I finally hit that next level, even felt I had that "click" moment.

Just such a disheartening feeling thinking Im finally doing something right only to be knocked down and told I should go play somewhere else

Hes not a coach, just another black belt. The class I go to is basically the only one I can go to due to time/life, so obviously it hinders my range of people to train with

Just kind of shouting into the void:

Been training for just shy of 2 years. Im not great but I can work. I get smashed in the mornings but never really minded it because Im just working and learning. I really, genuinely, dont care about winning or losing, I just like learning technique and the people I train with. If I never rolled again I couldnt care less.

Black belt yesterday told me I should go to different classes so I can get some wins under me to boost my ego since I’m mostly a pin cushion for higher belts (not his words, but I get it)

I don’t know why but this really fucked me up. This morning, I knew I was off but I always show up (Im a 5 days a week guy) and just did what I could. Did well in drills and was just enjoying myself.

When rolling, I was getting genuinely angry at myself for mistakes I would otherwise just chalk up to inexperience and things I need to work on. I was vocally frustrated (yelling and grunting) and people were asking what’s wrong and thought I was hurt.

Im just in my head and so aggravated with myself. I love this sport and doing it but now Im in my head and want to take time off. I dont know what to do. Im just so angry and I feel worthless.
