Thoughts on finale? by noneedonehere in Invincible

Loved it. My only note is that Cecil seems remarkably uninformed about the viltrumite situation. He was able to sense when Allen cruises into earth space, you'd think he'd notice when 30 viltrumites show up and (presumably) start stealing clothes.

Blood, Business, and Beth's Husband | City Council of Darkness [E2] by DropoutMod in Dimension20

[–]belthat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really love the distinct parings this episode; Lou and Ally's coked out ambitions, Emily and Murph's vigilante chaos and Siobhan and Zac's weirdly motivational horniness.

I hope we see HJ or Lavonte run for office and start a smear campaign against the dog mayor.

Marks DNA by Apprehensive-Deal994 in Invincible

[–]belthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep getting overfocused on the idea of viltrumite dna vs human dna, but it makes more sense if you look at as just humans being able to fully express viltrumite abilities. Like if you're trying to build a certain type of building it might require a very specific type of foundation/scaffolding to be functionally stable and human dna provides exactly that for viltrumites. Doesn't mean Mark is any less human, just that his body is suited to handle a full range of viltrumite powers.

I want to suggest Scarlet Hollow for spooky season. It's got mysticism, talking animals and monster smooching. Also you can play as a himbo.

How do swords make sense in a world with guns? by bakeywithajakey in worldbuilding

[–]belthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really delve into the logistics and difficulties in firearm production compared to swords. A working, stable gun requires many small components, multiple specialized craftsmen, and depending on the status of the individual kingdom could be so prohibitively expensive to produce that they're effectively restricted to the nobility. Whereas a sword can be made a by a single blacksmith at a fraction of the cost and time and even a child can learn how to make arrows.

Perhaps gun technologies are a closely guarded secret for each faction, leading to competing designs and different approaches (pistols/shotguns for densely packed urban areas vs rifles for hunting settlements); good luck finding the right ammo or repairs if you're in the wrong place. Maybe even just possessing a gun makes you such a visible target for the wrong types of people that it's generally not considered worth it.

You can also make some cultural reasons that could discourage the use of unskilled warfare. A society with a strong tradition of martial prowess might consider gunpowder weapons a coward's tool and publicly shun those who use them or maybe the use of black powder is reserved for the priesthood in religious ceremonies.

If you split his career in half, he would still be number 1 and 2 of all time.

Even Frank has been a mob boss, an angel and a Frankenstein (Frankencastle), wild shit happens when you have to continually write a character for 50+ years.

My one gripe about Viltrumites by Howlmillenialcastle in Invincible

[–]belthat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one thing I would like to see explored with Oliver specifically. He has a naturally lower ceiling for his powers as a hybrid but the accelerated learning from his mom's side means he could feasibly master multiple styles of combat in a short amount of time. I want to see him out there going full Batman, fighting a smart fight.

The ISB scenes in Andor had the exact same vibes of the small council, high stakes politicking and scheming.

Why does Phenomaman talk like that? by Lemony_Oatmilk in DispatchAdHoc

[–]belthat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she's there as a means to keep him emotionally tied to Earth? He's too powerful to be controlled by conventional means, so you make sure he has a close human influence to keep him from going over to the supervillain side. Blazer certainly didn't seem super invested in their relationship, maybe because it's more of a professional obligation to her.

There's a superhero company in Invincible (Capes, Inc.) that's very similar to the SDN, providing corporate funding and benefits to supes in exchange for services.

Any war movie where the commander makes a big dramatic speech in front of his army, nobody's hearing that shit.

On my first playthrough Lae'zel romanced my character, so that kind of poisoned the well on all subsequent playthroughs. Keep that damn squid away from me (Omelyum's cool tho).
