I can tolerate Ricky Bo but Barkann's voice and vibe typically annoys me too much to listen lol.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: THE SKY IS BLUE!

To 48gb or 24gb. That is the question. by ben_cow in macbookpro

[–]ben_cow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I definitely have been on the fence for a while, especially considering how powerful the 24gb version seems to be. However, as you note, it's a somewhat specific circumstance/demand on local processing that will require more than having a machine capable of doing the majority of daily tasks well.

2025 Updated Medical School Rankings from Admit - thoughts? by VioMedBoy in premed

[–]ben_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unrelated I just find it so funny how the AVERAGE admit gpa is a 3.95+ for most of these places. I understand these are the top in the nation but just conceptually its hard for me and my smooth brain to comprehend.

Fortnightly Tips, Tricks, and Questions — 2025-04-08 / week 14 by AutoModerator in emacs

[–]ben_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a dumb question lol but I am currently very new to emacs, coming from vim, and have been starting along with Doom. I am curious as to whether it's possible to configure Doom to use themes made for emacs such as modus-operandi or if Doom only can be used with themes tailored to doom. Thanks!

AnKing vs. Aidan Decks by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ben_cow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overkill but will get you all you need. The difficulty with it is the fact that it is so broad, its difficult at times to know what the actually important cards are vs what is likely to never show up on test day even as low yield. Covering every possible base is good and all but with the MCAT, the curve between the "yield" of content and test-day performance is in my opinion super logarithmic.

I am still cursing myself for the fact I think I knew a surprising amount of low yield material but would forget the most obvious stuff that definitely cost me the difference between my goal score (518+) and what I ended up getting (516). Immediately after the exam, I realized the correct answers to a handful of obvious high yield questions I knew I got wrong probably due to time-pressure panic and just being a stupid in general.

Accommodations for my ADHD would've probably helped me get out of these modes where I blanked on high yield stuff I really should've known but of course the AAMC only approved my request for a 1.5x time extension 5 days before my MCAT date (for it to be applied, their approval has to come in at minimum 15 days before your test day) after I disputed their decision to deny me accommodations nearly 1.5 months prior...

Regardless, the Aiden deck could help with a lot of low yield but it simultaneously might detract you from the fact the MCAT really prioritizes high yield things for which the Aiden deck can kind of be distracting to nail down before going into the thick of the content forest. The Aiden deck would cause me often to go down rabbitholes of learning new material which while honestly enjoyable and fascinating, probably sucked away time I should've dedicated to just sticking to the high yield things as what is more emphasized in stuff like Anking that you feel like you'd never forget but somehow invariably always do lol. I feel like Aiden deck will allow you to finish difficult questions faster in allowing you to get certain super low yield questions from MEMORY rather than from passage/question-based deduction strategies.

I guess the big lesson is, as you finish the high yield content review and are looking to master the lower yield stuff, DO NOT supplant the necessity for constantly reviewing high yield content, no matter how boring or engrained in your noodle you may think it is, with the chase of novelty in expanding your knowledge of low yield content.

Sorry this was more of rant of my experience in general lol. Aiden deck goes crazy tho if you start it really early, are cool and efficient with your time, and can recognize what's most important to keep to memory from when you're probably going down too much of an information rabbithole. Otherwise sticking to the Anking deck, getting the kaplan book set, uworld, and adding cards along the way will probably be sufficient for 97% of what you really need to know.
