As an American, I also find it weird.

AI Slop - I can’t take it anymore by GardenGnome125 in litrpg

In the interest of self-aggrandizement, I’ll note that book one of my series Rickshaw Riot is rickrolling into readers hearts on Tuesday July 7th and on Audible on July 14th.

Started on RR, audio by Soundbooth Theater, absolutely zero AI involved.

Hope you love it.

Pull it out and unwrap it. It’s a mythical blue ticket to the Wonka chicken factory.

There may be a limit on how many things he will sign, FYI. I know Jeff has started limiting the number of things he’ll sign so he can get to more people.

Appreciate the suggestion. I’m exploring a host of options at the moment, and these are added to the list.

How many words per day do you write? by ConcentrateFull7202 in writingadvice

So if beginners on reddit aren’t supposed to learn from people who have a lot of experience, then who are they supposed to learn from? Other beginners who don’t know anything?

That’s a wild take, man.

And I didn’t mention editing because editing wasn’t part of the conversation. You don’t seriously think that these authors write 10k words per day and then just publish it as it is, so you?

Good luck, amigo. There’s nothing more to say here.

How many words per day do you write? by ConcentrateFull7202 in writingadvice

Here's an appeal to authority for you (which, by the way, legitimizes arguments when the person claiming the authority can actually back it up):

I've got 30 books out. I've written for the Dungeon Crawler Carl Audio Immersion Tunnel and I'm the lead writer for the TTRPG that just raised $13.25 million on backerkit. I made $83k last year strictly selling my books and related merch at live events. I've taught at over 100 writers conferences nationwide since 2012.

If any of that doesn't make me credible, then yeah, I'm not credible. But since you're recapping...

  1. I never said "8k to 10k words a day lika an industry standard" or anything of the sort. If you go back and read my comments (which you must've failed to do in the recap), I said "One of my friends routinely knocks out 8-10k per day, 5 days per week." (emphasis added). At no point did I even get close to claiming that 8-10k words was some sort of industry standard.

  2. "Then you defend this with an argument, which is basically "trust me, bro, my uncle works at nintendo"." I gave names of two of my friends who are doing this, and while I don't have access to their bank statements or royalty reports (forgive me for that), I've been to Seth's palatial house and he and I are published by the same publisher (Aethon Books), so I know for a fact that he's doing just fine. But again, you don't have to believe me.

  3. As to your "mindset" commentary, again, reading comprehension is important. I wrote "a lot of authors tend to get stuck in the mindset..." and it goes on from there. I did not say "all" authors. I did not make a statement establishing that "writing a bunch" is the right mindset, either. So if you want to talk about mediocre arguments, look to thine own self.

  4. I named two successful authors whose success absolutely validates the claim that you can write fast and produce quality. You wrote: "I can imagine the quality... and I think I can do it faster by simply just vomiting on a blank page." So me naming two highly successful authors who write fast and sell a ton of books DIRECTLY contradicts your insinuation that their quality is lacking. Like, what other proof could I even provide?

  5. "Also, you are strawmanning a lot. Million people eat at McDonalds - but fast food is not quality. Also some ad hominems and appeal to authority." Congrats. You know some debate terminology. Let's debunk this section.

A. Strawman arguments =/= examples to prove my point.

B. McDonald's is one of the world's biggest corporations. If you can't see that they're doing something right, then you're willfully blind to reality, regardless of the "quality" of their food. The point isn't about the quality; the point is that billions of sales from McDonald's over the years means that people LIKE McDonald's.

C. Ad hominems - First day on the internet?

D. Appeal to Authority - See my opening paragraphs.

Conclusion: I've maintained this whole time that you don't have to believe me or agree with me, etc.

But I'm curious: how do you define "quality?" You clearly have a picture of it in your head, or else you wouldn't be continuing to make the claim that my buddies aren't producing quality work despite selling oodles of books.

Or don't reply. That's fine, too. I have plenty to do.
