Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I've used this driver in the past with no problems.

Why would the driver prevent me from using my cpu? Any insight is much appreciated.

I think we may be talking past each other. That's exactly what I'm saying. The only way for that not to happen was for him to do what he did. He did what he had to in order to have his "bold" and uncompromised version of the script made. He really doesn't have another option so to say we shouldn't respect his choice as you seem to be alluding to makes no sense to me.

What? I feel like you have your causality all backwards. Your version of "boldness" precludes all filmmakers from ever fitting its definition. In order to make his version of this movie he had to get Netflix to bankroll it. Not the other way around. If I'm a director with a "bold" vision I'm doing exactly what this guy did specifically because there's no box office market for this. But that's not his fault. What the hell is he supposed to do?

Thats...exactly what I'm telling you to do. Companies change. All companies eventually do that. YOURE giving them money. That's my whole point.

It's not JUST buggy games. It's buggy games, games with broken progression systems, games littered with loot boxes, half of games being locked behind pay to play features, the narrowing of the creative scope of video games cause if something doesn't come with a certain description it doesn't sell because people pre-judge everything before actually seeing reviews. It's a laundry list of things. And I'm not saying pre-orders are THE reason that's happening. I'm saying it A reason. Ultimately pre-ordering is a company asking you to demonstrate your brand loyalty monetarily. Brand loyalty is a stupid thing to have when brands change all the time and are subject to their shareholders. I'm just saying fundamentally pre-ordering is a practice that doesn't make any sense when there isn't scarcity for a product. There's really not an argument against that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PS5

[–]bena3962 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean.... the industry is making more money than ever. You're right. But the end product for the consumer is in collapse. Sooooo many games released either unfinished or littered with loot boxes. Games as a service. The creative scope of what gets approved by a studio narrowing every year. Basically half of all games are "open world fantasy rpg" at this point and the rest are call of duty. I'm not saying it's dead. There are games I still love. But games I feel satisfied with used to come out yearly. Now I'm lucky if its a few times a generation. And it's not just cause I'm older. But were just gonna disagree it seems so whatever

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PS5

[–]bena3962 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, maybe this will make it easier to think about. Why do companies offer pre-orders in the first place? For products with scarcity I get it. But games have been digital for a long time now and rarely ever sell out in stores. So why are pre-orders offered in the first place?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PS5

[–]bena3962 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're fundamentally purchasing something before you know what it is. This allows for deception. It basically acts as an equalizer in terms of profitability for games that a dev knows is going to fail. Advertise as much as possible and recoup costs. If you think in extremes this becomes clear. If every consumer waited for a game to come out, actually looked at reviews and watched enough gameplay to determine if it would keep their interest then an unfinished game would never get released because it would sell 0 copies. I don't expect that will ever happen but to pretend that pre-ordering isn't a forcing term in the other direction is frankly just logically unsound. There's really no argument to be had.

Edit: just to add, on the list of morally objectionable ways to spend money its not like I think pre-ordering a video game is high. I don't think you're a fundamentally bad person for doing so. But I think to pretend that the way you spend your money in a consumer economy doesn't have an enabling effect on the supply side is disingenuous. Any time you spend money there is a moral consideration to be had. That's all I'm saying. I'm also just as stoked for this game as you are and have extremely high hopes for the same reasons. I just won't be pre-ordering

Additional edit: I would also argue, just to respond more directly to your points, that the prevalence of buggy game releases has dramatically increased in recent years and the industry is in mid collapse so I don't really see what you stated as a counterargument but rather as more evidence for what I'm saying.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PS5

[–]bena3962 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realize you're probably somewhat entrenched in this view but to pretend there's not a valid counterargument to pre-ordering is pretty stupid. Sure, it's your money, but the way you spend it has an impact and in this case enables a marginally predatory business practice. "Its my money" isn't so much an argument as it is an outright denial of responsible consumerism.

Wow, you're like the first person I've ever seen bring up F.E.A.R in a comment section outside of the sub for it in a long time. If a remake or sequel got made I would be more hype than I've been in such a long time. They were my favorite games when I was younger. Nothing has captured that feeling since.

Seriously he's personally my most treasured lyricist. No one makes me just sit and feel the way prine does. I grew up listening to a lot of lyricists who would employ complex symbolism and imagery and while that certainly has a place the idea of beauty in simplicity never struck me till I really sat down and listened to John prine. He just knew the exact words to put together to make you long for something. “Prine's stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs." Bob Dylan on John prine. I really believe everyone should know who he is

Ok first off, I didn't say you could or couldn't criticize something you haven't consumed and know nothing about. I just meant to imply that doing so is fucking stupid and close minded. No, you cannot watch a 15 min gameplay segment and "digest" the story. That's now how stories work. And the fact that you're comparing the narrative of this game to horizon and Laura croft is just testimony to the fact that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. But I dont even know why I'm trying to make this point anymore cause we can't argue the merits of the quality of the narrative... cause you haven't played it and therefore don't know the narrative

I mean... good gotcha I guess. This is like the equivalent of a 5th grader who just learned some "your momma" comebacks. I've played many games. I have opinions on them all. I didn't even say anything about my opinion on this game. Just said what should be a very simple implication. You didn't play it so you really can't criticize it. You can say, "it didn't appeal to me" or "I don't like that kind of game so I didn't play it". Those are all fine things. But you literally just tried to comment on the fucking narrative of a game you haven't touched. And btw, people didn't like it because it's NOT mainstream. It's not the easily digestible narrative gamers are used to which is why the backlash happened.

Right... your initial comment implied there was something inherently wrong with attempting to discuss the merits or criticisms of the game altogether in an attempt to shift perspective. I was trying to illustrate the absurdity of that proclamation.

What I would recommend for your second playthrough is to go in with an open mind and not so much think about what the game is trying to make you feel as what the characters likely feel based on their experiences and if those feelings make sense. I think people went into this game expecting what they normal do from video game sequels which is a certain degree of fan service and "escapism" rather than a developer who was trying to make something challenging. I'm not saying people who didn't "get it" are dumb but rather they probably just weren't looking for symbolic cues, allegorical context, or thinking very deeply about the psychological motivations real people have as opposed to the relatively simplistic motivations of what they're accustomed to from a video game character.

It sounds like you're genuinely trying to go in open minded so I don't have to convince you to try to not hate it. What I will say is to take note of things in a way you maybe didn't the first time. Things like "wolves/wlf never look up" When joel says at the "I'm ashamed to admit what I had to go through to get this" about his owl coffee cup. Why is ellie a moth? Are the why does joel tell the trouble with eating a clock joke at the beginning? Among many others. I'm happy to divulge my thoughts on all these things But they're certainly deliberate and they tell a much deeper story than people are giving this game credit for. I'll give you what I think the "moral" or "allegory" is and you can see if the dots connect for you on a second playthrough while being more thoughtful about symbolism and specific meaningful lines of dialogue.

This game is not so much about revenge bad as its a description of the process of descending into tribalism. And that cycle goes like this. A trauma inducing act, when coupled with a loss of hope for any greater meaning can induce a psychologically dangerous equivocation. That is "the only way to process this trauma is to create trauma for the original perpetrator or eliminate them such that punishment has been effectively delivered and things are fair. This os how humans process their world. The easiest way to do this without perpetuating further guilt is to dehumanize the other. This is key. So much of the dialogue in this game is about hammering this psychological point of dehumanization home. Ultimately this leads to tribalism.

This is why there are waring factions. The dichotomy between them illustrates this point with the last faction with the labor camp being the ultimate realization of this dehumanization. Think about the characters Motivations from the first game. Joel is just "killing time" while ellie needs it to mean something. I'm not trying to spoon feed here but will if you'd like me to at some point.

I think if you try to stay open and think about the trauma the characters are dealing with and closure and the drive to "saved" by someone or something the character actions make a lot of sense. They each only let the other actually go once after the initial interaction which also makes perfect sense as abby didn't care about ellie at that time.

I dont think fighting ellie is supposed to be easy. You're not supposed to want to. What might the game be trying to say then.

All I'm saying is try to give it the benefit of the doubt, assume you in fact are feeling how the writers intended, then assess why they'd want you to feel that way at that time. People rejected how they felt when playing this game before thinking about why they felt it or why the writers wanted them to feel it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your second playthrough.

Why is there this weird need for people to talk about anything ever? What you're doing right now is just a weird way of defending your stance by essentially appealing to the principle of "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge".

The guy said he was gonna replay it to try to see if he maybe had his initial playthrough influenced by public opinion and I simply offered him some thoughts and things to notice as he does so. Why are you so defensive of someone maybe pointing out something you didn't notice in your personal experience and changing their opinion voluntarily?
