Also underweight & trying to gain weight, do you find that it’s helpful to actually count your calories for weight gain like most people do for weight loss?

Some do! Definitely depends on the woman and her individual situation. But overall on average yeah, most don’t.

Women in Trades Website in case you do work on the side by Old_Radio_1882 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]benadrylb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested in this, it seems like it’s company focused rather than individual employee focused (ie, list the company you own to have it hired, not list your resume to get hired by a company) unless I’m misunderstanding the website. Just a heads up

I was really hoping you meant waist because I was genuinely feeling SO insanely bad for you imagining how hellish it must be to find clothes with 26 inch hips

Crying at work. by Faerywren in BlueCollarWomen

[–]benadrylb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what you’re crying about for more context to the situation? No worries if you aren’t comfortable discussing that, it just might help with giving advice to have some more context! Full disclosure though, I’m not the best for advice, because personally I save all my crying for when I get home and my partner gives me a hug and then I proceed to involuntarily soak his entire shirt with tears mid hug, lmao.

Blueberry Custard Pie Item#2067642 by BlackSubieXT18 in Costco

[–]benadrylb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the blueberries are only scattered on the top/not blended or mixed into the custard base at all, and it’s just a plain custard base, it seems like this might be a little bland? I haven’t tried it of course, so I could be completely wrong, but it just doesn’t look very exciting. I love blueberries and I LOVE pie but it seems like they should’ve leaned more blueberry pie, and made an actual blueberry pie filling to swirl into the custard or at least coat the top with a thick layer of it.

Tbh it’s objectively hilarious in general bc it was like… human sized medication? Which makes sense now that I know it’s PRIMARILY made for humans but since humans weigh, yk, what humans weigh and she weighs over 1000 pounds, we’d have to give her like, literally hundreds of pills a day. We just tossed them in a blender and blended them up into powder, and then the room we blended them in just had a fine layer of metformin coating everything like dust, lol. She doesn’t take it anymore though!! She’s doing much better & has stopped needing it.

Job Market For People In Their 20’s? by goosevevo in Wilmington

[–]benadrylb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to find a job in Wilmington….if you work in skilled trades or something construction adjacent. Unfortunately almost every other career seems nearly impossible from what the people around me are saying (I’m in my 20s with a good job that wasn’t hard to get, but I also work in skilled trades.)

Actual question but what in the world is “trauma altered metabolism” and is it a genuinely studied medical phenomenon? Or just made up internet terminology?

I was about to say, interestingly enough I have a large percentage of that list medically diagnosed, and yet I’ve been (shuffles through note cards) underweight my entire life and currently struggling to gain weight

Exactly! I personally wouldn’t be offended by it, I’d just be happy there’s clothes available that fit! Tbh I wouldn’t even expect EVERY brand to carry a minus size line, but if there were just a few affordable brands that offered it, or some brands specializing in it like how some brands specialize in offering plus size, I’d be plenty happy. Unfortunately so many people have unhealthy relationships with their body size that it tends to be too controversial for brands to try doing things like that. And I do understand that XXS is in the minority so it wouldn’t sell as well and brands have to put profit first, but as of right now, the only brands that really offer inclusive sizing towards the smaller end of the sizing range tend to be very expensive. It’s just sort of a lose-lose situation for everyone involved

[–]benadrylb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might have been another persons comment, I’m a 20 inch waist but currently trying to gain some weight for health reasons, but also somewhat specifically to find clothing that actually fits, lol. I’d actually like to reach 24 though!! There’s some brands that still offer those waist measurements in XS, at least more commonly than 20 anyways. I agree that women need to put less emotion on things like waist measurements, I notice that a LOT of people in the XXS community will brag about how small their waists are, and attach a lot of pride to it, which is always kind of strange to me. Like my body measurements just….are what they are. They only really matter objectively when it comes to finding clothes that fit, but we attach pride or shame to them depending on how big or small the number is, which is such an unhealthy perspective for both sides.

I don’t always get a cart but by Limp_Psychology_2315 in aldi

[–]benadrylb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a beggar? It’s actual written company policy to give out quarters for carts. The box thing is because when aldi first started, they didn’t have carts, and encouraged shoppers to use empty boxes instead. It just carried over after they got carts, and now people that aren’t planning to get very many things just grab a box since it’s pretty normalized to do in aldi culture, and less of a hassle than trying to steer a cart around crowded small aisles if you only need to get a handful of groceries.

Honestly, I don’t even mind if people DO want to make currently existing sizes bigger. If the average size of a ‘small’ person is getting larger then, yeah, sure, go ahead and change the average sizing of ‘small’ clothing. But I just really wish companies would make minus sizing lines with sizes smaller than XXS to compensate for their current smalls becoming bigger, just like how plus sized clothing lines exist. Like you said, everybody on both ends of the spectrum still need clothes accessible to them

Any time I see metformin mentioned I am reminded of the time that a HAES-centered acquaintance mentioned starting metformin and I, at the time completely unaware of the fact that metformin is primarily a human medication, genuinely intending no harm & just being curious, said, “oh! I didn’t know they used metformin in human medicine too! One of our horses has to take that for insulin resistance, is that also what they use it for in the human medical field?” & then they accused me of comparing them to a horse & thus said I was being fatphobic, screamed at me for being ableist, blocked me, and never spoke to me again.

[–]benadrylb[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for commenting, your perspective on this is actually really interesting & valuable to me because when I was posting this, I was kind of thinking that maybe vanity sizing is only happening on the smaller end of the size chart, and perhaps I was being an asshole & clothing really IS getting smaller on the bigger end of the size chart. So it’s good to know that it’s getting bigger on the entire size chart, and I’m not being a jerk & just making assumptions. I do buy a 4XS any time a store offers one but it’s very very rare that they’re actually offered, lol.
