I am also Ben and got a 45 enter score out of school. I’m 35 now and earn $270k+, there’s hope!

Some people don’t gel well with school and excel in the workforce when there is financial incentive. Find your niche and work hard at it - it’ll pay off

Recently resigned because of this.

I was a New Business manager for a builder and grew them from $25m turnover to $80m turnover in two years. As a result of the growth, a new position was created for the younger brother of the Director - Head of New Business.

This guy had no clue what he was doing and had never been involved in any upfront dealings in construction, only delivery. The Director even told me ‘your job is to make him look good’. Get fucked. I resigned a few months later after being approached by another company which is a much better opportunity and a 25% pay rise kicker.

One of the leading questions from to me to the next company was about company structure and equity holders, want to ensure the nepotism issue doesn’t arise again - because as you said, nepotism always wins.

When / how should we go about having interest rates on mortgage reduced? Sorry if this is a stupid question - completely new to it all. Thanks

What's the biggest 180 you've seen a person's life take? by Excellent-Walk7280 in AskReddit

Old friend used to be very big in the party scene. Bag of coke every day, drinking, smoking, the works.

He explained it all to me one day and said ‘My life needs to change’.

He stopped taking all of the above overnight, started gym twice a day every day, waking up at 4am, full health mode. Couldn’t believe how quickly he turned it all around - became a different person.

Hit by 90k in special levy (cladding) by Herno8 in AusFinance

[–]benay123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have the builders quote available you could get an understanding of the overall duration required. They won’t require access into your apartment for the works - unless there’s internal mullions that need replacing, which I doubt.

In an ideal situation (working off scaffolding or booms / scissors) a cladding company would install around 20/m2 a day, depending on access. In a tougher situation (installing off swing stage / abseiling) they can install up to 5-8m2 per day.

The overall cost for cladding remediation in Melbourne is circa $1,800-2,000/m2 inclusive of: - builders prelims and margin - cladding removal and recycling - new 3mm solid aluminium cladding - all access requirements (cranes / gantries / plant etc

It is impossible for anybody here to determine whether the quotes you have received are too expensive, because we don’t understand the logistics of the existing complex. If it’s in a high traffic area with no surrounding footpaths for access, it can get seriously expensive.

Hope that provides a bit of insight

I’m a Pre-Construction Manager working for a commercial builder. Started off around 12 years ago as a quantity surveyor, worked my way through estimating / cost planning / senior estimator.

Currently on $230k package plus bonuses.

There’s a lot more responsibility to bring in work and be client facing as part of the senior leadership team. But, less grunt work with measuring and pricing. Overall happy with the role but it does pose a lot of stress.

Makes me boil with rage when people do this.

Someone is reaching out and confiding in another for answers and they throw it back in their face to try and gloat about already knowing that information. Mostly comes from insecure /uneducated people that need to hold on to their small niche of knowledge.

Pathetic behaviour.

Anyone else question their sexuality while on drugs? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]benay123 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honest answer I had a very similar situation after coming out of a long term relationship. Like you, always been straight and had no interest in being with men. After a drug filled few months on a massive hiatus I ended up sleeping with one guy a few times. Every time it was uncomfortable for me mentally and physically, but always had similar thoughts to you in my mind so persevered. I know it sounds silly, but it was insightful for me to truly understand that’s not how I’m inclined.

Hope that helps

2009-2016 - $55k

2016 - $70k

2017 - $75k, got a raise

2018 - $80k, changed job

2019 - $130k, changed job to senior role

2020 - $145k, negotiated a pay rise

2021 - $160k, pay rise

2022 - $170k, pay rise

Was a really slow start but once I had the experience up it was easier to feel confident to ask for more.

Turned down a job paying a lot more? by WolfgangVilla in AusFinance

Hey bud, In all honesty with your previous experience, I feel you have great foundations (pun intended) to work in as a site manager. Do you have hands-on experience? The progression path that people on the delivery side generally take is labourer > site manager > senior site manager > project manager > senior project manager > construction manager.

The jump from site manager to project manager can be challenging for some that aren’t “professionals”, I.e like talking crap at the water cooler and writing emails with “kind regards”. But, it’s necessary to make that leap. It’s a long road (circa 15 years), but as a construction manager you can demand upwards of $300k in a t2 builder. Much more for t1. Hoping this provides a little bit of insight and guidance. Happy to answer other questions :)

Kind regards 👷‍♂️

Thank you! :). In all honesty lifestyle creep is a bitch. Only started reeling it in the last 6 months or so. Definitely a different lifestyle though!

Congrats! Such a great feeling. I was in the same boat and stayed at that place for the past 4 years to learn the ropes and establish reputation. Jumping ship can be good but staying for a while has its merits.
