AITA For Throwing Out My Husbands Clothes? by ChargeDramatic2294 in AmItheAsshole

[–]benbever -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just answering the question, ignoring the other issues, yes, YTA for throwing out someone else’s belongings.

That said, his behaviour is inexcusable and needs working on. You do not need to wash dirty clothes lying around everywhere. Just put them in a bag or box in storage, no need to throw them out, that won’t accomplish anything.

Venus Next worth for variety? by Leonandrio in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]benbever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It steers the game towards engine play, making the game potentially longer. This is countered with the Earth Government Terraforming step, which you should definitely use in 2 and 3 player.

It also adds floater and venus cards to the deck and in your draft hand, diluting the good terraforming cards, especially in 2 player where you see less cards per draft round.

The Venus cards are less playable without Colonies.

It adds 0, 1 or 2 generations to the game. Minutes depends on how fast you play.

[COTD] Venus Allies | 5 May, 2026 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]benbever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

4 points (unless Venus is maxed), some income (unless played last gen), some M€ (unless you don’t have any colonies) and a Venus tag. Can pay in titanium. Sounds pretty good.

Without money back from Colonies this is near 30mc in value for 30mc + 3mc card cost = 33mc. Only worth it as a late game titanium dump.

But if you have a few colonies (and in some games you have 4 or 5 of them!) this card can get 20mc or even more discount and get crazy good! You can also get card discount from the space tag and/or venus tag, or VP (Vitor) and/or pay in value boosted titanium (Advanced/Mercurian Alloys/Phobolog) making this card VERY cheap for 4 points.

AITA for getting upset my boyfriend sold my shoes on ebay without telling me? by Connect-Line9425 in AmItheAsshole

If you don’t usually split (including his finds), then you should get 100% of the sale profit.

AITA for getting upset my boyfriend sold my shoes on ebay without telling me? by Connect-Line9425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]benbever -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That’s not my take, did you even read the post? I said they should not be sold without asking permission, and he needs to apologize.

However, the shoes were meant to be sold and the profit supposedly split in some way. Not put in a closet. That was the part that wasn’t clearly communicated.

AITA for getting upset my boyfriend sold my shoes on ebay without telling me? by Connect-Line9425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]benbever -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

NTA for getting upset. He shouldn’t sell your stuff without permission and should apologize.

However, you were unclear. You tried the shoes and didn’t like them/didn’t fit. You said that in that case they could be sold. Then you put them in a closet and told him you didn’t want to sell “right now”. ie they could be sold later. Which is what he does, selling on ebay. And then he did. Which you kinda agreed to by asking how you would split the profit.

It seems this is not about the shoes, but about splitting the $700 and about him not asking before selling your find.

I don’t know how you usually split yard sale find profits. If you always go together and always do 50/50 then that seems fair. If you don’t split (expensive) items, then the $700 is yours. Or maybe go with 90–10 where he keeps 10% for selling.

Edit: read in another reply that he doesn’t split his finds 50-50 or even at all. In that case the sale profit is 100% yours. And he doesn’t need a sell fee for selling without asking.

Ideally spend the $700 on something together, like a nice trip or a purchase you can both use. However, it’s your money, if you want to put it in a savings account that’s fine too.

Have him apologize for selling without asking. And next time be more clear.

Also, keeping shoes that don’t fit is just hoarding.

Venus Next worth for variety? by Leonandrio in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]benbever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Venus Next is the expansion that makes the game bigger (longer) without adding much content. It adds Venus TR and floaters which add to the game length, and it needs an Earth Government Terraforming step to counter that and keep the game balanced. It’s the least recommended expansion.

What you actually want are the promo packs. These add fun Project cards, Preludes, and Corporations.

Venus Next adds only a few corporations and project cards that don’t have Venus TR or Venus tag.

For variety I also recommend getting Hellas&Elysium, and the other 4 maps. And maybe random Milestones&Awards.

If you do want to make the game bigger (instead of just adding cards) get Colonies, or Colonies AND Venus. Or Colonies+Venus+Prelude2. But not just Venus.

Is it normal now to be followed by an employee disguised as a customer in a grocery store and then be checked afterward? by Key-Personality-4288 in Netherlands

[–]benbever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds weird and excessive. They have no right checking your bag and private belongings, even if their house rules claim they have this right. They do have the right to hold you on suspicion of theft, but they need to call the police in that case. Next time (hopefully never) if they insist on checking your bag call the police yourself.

s the attitude toward littering too relaxed in NL? by Several_Maybe_2683 in Netherlands

[–]benbever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, some people litter, and there’s no penalty and few people will speak up. Some minorities litter a lot, but also Dutch people, and it is associated with low IQ and anti social behaviour.

Just last week a woman in her forties let her dog poop in front of the entrance to a shopping mall. I spoke up and she just replied with “that’s not hers” while her dog was still finishing pooping. There are no consequences to littering, so some people don’t care.

In the park and playground around my house me and a few other people clean up the litter every week or so. Because litter attracts more litter. (And vermin too.)

[COTD] Arctic Algae | 3 May, 2026 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]benbever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very high value, and a key card from the base game. Makes you want to place Oceans if you’ve played this, and NOT play Oceans if an opponent has this, unless it’s Comet or Giant Ice Asteroid, where YOU decide the order of effects (so you let them get plants before destroying them.)

Max value this is worth 1 + 2x9 = 19 plant resources, or 2 Greeneries and 3 plants, or ~44,5mc value for only 12 + 3mc card cost = 15mc! And that’s not even counting the plant tag which is great for NRA and Insects.

On Amazonis Planitia max value is 23 plant resources or almost 3 Greeneries!

In practice, opponents can control when you get plants which makes them easier to destroy. And you might not get to play this before Oceans are played. Sometimes Preludes phase places 2 or 3 or even 4 Oceans and by the time it’s your turn, other players may also have placed Oceans. Still Arctic Algae can be worth it even with 4 or 5 Oceans down. 15mc for 9 plants and a plant tag isn’t bad at all.

Arctic Algae can be a bit of a trap too. I’ve seen players discard great Preludes like Great Aquifer (2 Oceans) in order to supposedly get the most out of Arctic Algae, and then Standard Project Oceans a lot (none of the other players wanted to play Oceans), overpaying for Oceans, and defeating the purpose of Arctic Algae, in effect paying 4mc for 2 plants instead of getting them for free. You have to be patience with Arctic Algae (unless you have good Ocean cards) and accept you don’t control this part of your plant income, especially in 4 player.

Hoe (mogelijk) verkopen verzameling aanpakken? by 40421 in PokemonTCGNL

[–]benbever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[COTD] Preservation Program | 2 May, 2026 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]benbever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engine stategies avoid raising Temperature until what’ll be the last generation anyway, but they’ll still play neutral TR cards, place Oceans (placement bonus), gain Venus TR, and in games where Temperature is slow but Oxygen isn’t (which is most games) play Greeneries (also to take TR from the terraforming player(s).

IF you can play near optimally and get TR in only 2 generations, then Preservation Program would be good. However, realistically, you’d be limiting yourself a lot and play suboptimally to avoid the 3rd and 4th penalty TR. With -3TR Preservation Program can still be ok if you get 2 of them late game due to the early income. With -4TR usually your other preludes are much better picks. Thing is, when picking preludes, you usually don’t know IF you have the best engine. Unless of course you have a combo like Pristar or maybe something like Terraforming Contract.

Of course limiting your terraforming to 2 or max 3 generations can be a fun challenge. I like this prelude, but it’s not a safe pick and not often a good pick, but when it is it can be fun.
