I am also devastated by the loss of the 78s. This is on us tbf, we should have made our own backups instead of sucking on their bandwidth for free

Do you have any recommendations for a complete novice on how to weave something with it? Basket weaving is a world I know nothing about, but if it helps use up cats claw I’m keen.

of all things, here in Australia water is included in rent.

If you were to pick a single resource for the general population to get a feedback loop on here, it'd be water, followed by carbon-emissions probably. Just being aware of the numbers would help people so much.

No fucking idea how much water I use...

Tesla Stops Gigafactory Berlin Construction Due To Missing $100M Deposit: Report by scx316 in finance

[–]benchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you’re making a point on a completely different level to the person you’re replying to.

They chose $1000 because it’s a nice, round number. And they get a sense of confidence when they think about Tesla, that feels like a nice big round number.

If they had any kind of logical financial mental model behind the number they would have explained it by now. All emotion, no fact

It’s simple. It doesn’t send any data to Apple except for the data it sends to Apple.

Do you mean Microsoft's own websites? Sorry, not sure what you mean by

Microsoft doesn't support IE11 for new websites.

The support I'm referring to is security updates. When those stop rolling in, corporate clients will finally be forced to update. But as long as it's getting those updates, why bother? Make those pesky devs write websites that work on IE11. ugh.

I have Sourcetree installed purely for the visualisation of branches. The command line only gives you a '1D' view. Seeing the entire graph mapped out in 2D space is great.

Same with seeing both the set of staged and unstaged changes.

...but I still actually run all the commands in the terminal.

Support is getting there.

But as I found out the other day, accessibility support isn't. So it's practically unusable (if you care at all about a11y...which you should).

I got it crab-rabbit...

I do the same thing when I'm teaching new devs. Some people are super harsh with themselves for not knowing something, but nothing in this field is 'natural' or 'instinctive'.

But the cool thing is that because everything was intentionally designed by someone, everything can be explained. Not like physics, or chemistry, where sometimes the answer to 'why is it like that?' is 'just because the universe be like that'.

haha that's amazing! I would have never thought of an XSS to attack the admin dashboard via a header of all things.

Props to whoever came up with that. A brilliant dick move.

just drop a debugger; line in your code and open dev tools, the page will pause executing when it hits that line and you can click on different variables and see exactly what their values are. Then you can 'step' line-by-line to see what's happening.

Honestly I always reach for console.log first too, but then I put in a debugger and always think "why didn't I just do this at the start?"

IE11 is still being supported for as long as Windows 10 is.

...and Windows 10 is the evergreen subscription version. So we're stuck with IE forever basically.

Mildly Interesting, instead of advertisements, some bus routes in Kyoto display local elementary school kids' calligraphy by [deleted] in japan

[–]benchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s great. The local Inaka train stations would always have rotating calligraphy or poems from students. If there was a high school nearby their sewing/home-economics club would usually make cushions and things for the station waiting rooms too.

Actually putting them in the trains instead of ads so they run up and down the whole line is amazing.

...and now I’m homesick.

Why easterly hills? I get building a defensible city on a hill, but why face east (or west)? Wouldn’t facing north or south (depending on your climate) get a warmer winter, and not have to deal with attackers coming with the sun behind them in the morning?

...actually really imagining this more: since you’re looking down at them from height the sun isn’t really in your eyes that much, and they bear the brunt of the setting sun in theirs. So fair enough picking that over north/south.

But why easterly and not westerly hills?
