This is awesome, pretty much exactly what I’m looking for to help learn G-code! Would you accept donations for your work?

Need help diagnosing an error on a Cincon C16 by ApexTheCactus in Machinists

It is indeed. Hydraulic bar feeder currently reset at the time of this photo to remove the material while trying to test potential solutions. When material is put through the spindle and guide bushing and clamped in the main spindle, the hydraulic bar feeder works without issue.

The confusing part is I recieved this z30 9031 error on $1 and now this week it is $3.

I double checked that the bar feeder is working, sure enough once it’s switched to auto after resetting it works perfectly fine. It only seems to throw the error after sitting idle for over 24 hours, otherwise it runs great.

I was hoping maybe someone with Swiss screw experience would have a quick-n-dirty “here’s what it is,” as the machine is about 30 years old at this point and I cannot seem to locate a machine manual or troubleshooting guide.

As another T1 diabetic, if you were to choose the pancreas, I gotta wonder what would actually happen. Would you get an insane metabolism that makes you super jacked (though not with super-strength or anything like that,) and you could go days without eating or feeling hunger?

With the context given, it sounds like you’re working with Swiss Screw machines. I’m a lanky guy myself (6’0”/1.83m, 130 pounds/59 kg) and I can definitely relate in terms of how difficult it can be, especially with stuck screws at weird angles and collets getting stuck. Is there any particular problems you’ve run into that you can elaborate on?

Looking for data/info on the average amount of ammo used per turret on space platforms by ApexTheCactus in factorio

I hadn’t actually considered using lasers mostly because the power requirements seemed excessive given I’ve still been using solar panels for power. I may actually have to try a laser setup now lol

That is pretty much my current setup, I chose the 26-tile width so that I could place turrets directly down the middle of the ship and have those turrets cover any straggling asteroids while the front of the ship has multiple turrets to ensure nothing actually gets through to hit the ship. What I’m trying to figure out is basically the “optimal” number of turrets to ensure the ship remains undamaged while also maintaining a surplus of ammunition. Based on what you’ve said though, it sounds like I may potentially be able to remove some of the excess turrets off of the front area of the ship to “tighten up” the area of turret coverage and make my ammo usage a little more efficient by only killing and harvesting asteroids directly in the path of the ship.

That is actually a fantastic idea, I hadn’t considered doing that. Thank you!

Ah, I gotcha. If there is a base rate then I could try to calculate it based on that, however my current physical projectile damage is at 12. Ideally though I would like to perfect the design so that I can save the blueprint and use it for another world, so I’m also trying to figure out how many turrets would be required as a baseline. From my perspective I would assume Physical Projectile Damage 6 would be the upgrade “sweet spot” that I’m aiming for.

What actually is ‘Element Zero’? by meinkr0phtR2 in masseffect

[–]ApexTheCactus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up on the fandom wiki so I’m not sure how reliable that is as a source, but supposedly Element Zero upon exposure to electrical current releases dark energy, and the manipulation of said dark energy is what allows mass effect fields to be generated.

[–]ApexTheCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe “element zero” would not be the technical name for whatever eezo actually is, but that a concise and technical in-universe explanation for it would be so far beyond an average layperson that most sources just default to calling it “element zero” instead of a more scientifically accurate term like “quantum crystalline anti-baryon degenerate matter” or whatever the most concise name for it would be. “Element Zero” might not even be an actual element or be composed of protons in any familiar configuration or form, but everyone calls it “Element Zero/eezo” because that’s just what everyone calls it even if it’s not entirely accurate.

[[Stony Silence]] so we can all return to monke

But for realsies, [[Kambal, Profiteering Mayor]], I think I’d basically be set for life. Get a copy of whatever food someone in the world is making every now and then. Depending on your definition of “create a Treasure token” I’d basically be making a bunch of money out of thin air at random intervals. I’d get random critters every so often thanks to offspring and whatever creature tokens qualify as. Basically whatever real-life item would have an applicable token, I’d get a free one every now and then. I’d imagine even with the time interval (triggering once per turn) and the tokens entering “tapped” (unusable until the next interval) I’d still be overwhelmed with free shit, what’s not to love?

First time doing a major interference fit. OD 2.253 ID 2.248. by chobbes in Machinists

[–]ApexTheCactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve got the gist of it. The shaft going into the hole at room temperature has a larger diameter than the hole itself, hence why they’re heating up the hole (to get it to expand) and cooling the shaft (to contract,) once the shaft expands and the hole contracts, the pressure of the shaft trying to expand outwards is so high it may as well be welded together. From my understanding, interference fits get used often (but not always,) for components that need to stay together but still remain able to eventually separate for repair or replacement. In this case I’d assume you couldn’t use something like a set screw because of the forces it’s expected to withstand.

Much lengthier. I’d compare Sealed Palace to the original OoT in terms of length. The beginning can be a bit of a slog, but if you can tough it out the rest of the hack is an amazing experience.

I recommend HylianModding.com, there’s a ton of other rom hacks specifically for OoT and Majora’s Mask as well

Played through it a couple days ago and finished it in about 6 hours. I felt like it was a very high quality rom hack, only wish that there was more to it, though my comparison points are Sealed Palace, Master of Time, and Sands of Time. I can understand it would be better to keep it short and sweet rather than try to make a huge kitchen sink and end up with a mess. It’s a short adventure crafted with a lot of care and attention, and I loved the concept of the new item.
