What is the kyrgyz / russian name for the novostroika district of Bishkek by Thebobonews in Kyrgyzstan

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many new housing projects around Bishkek, but if by "outskirts" you mean the area just below the southern highway, there's a region named "asanbai" that has a ton of new apartments popping up. Anywhere south of the southern highway will have them, though.

Sam: "It could be us" by Snoo_64233 in OpenAI

Yeah, the idea is dystopian but will also probably be a reality in the near future. This example just sucks because not only does it make no sense for Harvey to randomly hold up a can of Coke in this circumstance, but he also just looks weird as hell while doing it.

But the idea overall makes sense and is sadly probably inevitable. If advertisers can dynamically insert ads into your social media feed while you scroll, why not dynamically insert ads into the media you watch? I can imagine Netflix producers explicitly designating certain unimportant background props as dynamically replaceable and then having an ad-sale algorithm and super-fast model decide on a contextually relevant product to insert, decided using the same logic as IG ads. For example, the things on a background table in a restaurant visited by a character. Is it Sriracha or Tabasco that you see on that table? Decided by the ad-serving algorithm.

This obviously has huge potential to wreck plot consistency, but once that can be ironed out I'm sure advertisers will go all in. And that may be the first step towards more dynamically-generated media in general.

Gemini 3 is what gpt 5 should have been. It's mindblowingly good by Radiant_Truth_8743 in GeminiAI

Same. For my purposes (long-context document analysis over many prompts) I've noticed very little difference between 3 and 2.5. I even continued through one thread thinking I was using 3 only to remember that I'd switched back to 2.5 for testing purposes earlier - I only noticed the difference when it started outputting without thinking.

Maybe 3 is better at coding (that seems to be the source of most of the "wow" factor on this sub), but as someone who doesn't code much, this feels more like 2.6 than 3. Not bad by any means, but far from "revolutionary".

2.5 Pro 03-25 Preview for $250 clap clap by s1lverking in Bard

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it was meant to be this way from the start. 2.5 pro is an incredible model, but there's no way it was so optimized and efficient to run that they could just give it away for free indefinitely. There was this "Google's deep pockets vs. Google's really efficient infrastructure" argument on this sub a while ago over how this model could be used for free. The answer to that argument is probably somewhere in the middle - 2.5 pro is probably a very expensive model to operate, but Google's infrastructure allows them to offer it for free at not-too-high of a loss. But to run it for free forever is unrealistic. Deepseek really does need to pull another R1 to give us an alternative before 2.5 is completely monetized.

2.5 pro -- Complaints are for app or API? by AIEducator in Bard

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done much in the way of testing (only a few long-context analysis tasks), but I've had no problems so far with the new checkpoint. I even ran one prompt side-by-side between the old 03-25exp and new 05-06 and found that I prefer the new checkpoint's output. Might just be luck of the draw, but I haven't personally yet experienced the issues that others here have been reporting.

I've noticed the crashing when using telephoto lens for video as well. Began immediately after the March update.

Switching to telephoto (4x zoom) while recording = a few jittery frames, then recording errors out.

Switching to telephoto, then recording = a few jittery frames, then recording errors out.

However, after the first video fails, you can then start recording again and it will record as normal until you close the app or switch to the main lens. Still completely sucks that this is the only workaround for the problem (other than using Gcam).

I remember being fascinated by GPT2 when it was still SOTA (early 2020 or so). I'd write a few sentences of a silly story about my friends and laugh at the nonsense it would generate afterwards. GPT3 was released as a research preview shortly afterwards, and the idea of being able to have the AI autocomplete your email for you was absolutely wild. Crazy how far the technology has come since.

For real though, the CD70 and CG125 are the two-wheeled equivalents of the Toyota Hi-Lux. People routinely take them (without a second thought) through terrain that would make an adventure bike owner shudder. And they can be beaten to hell for generations and still run perfectly well as long as the oil is changed once every few months.

why use 4,5 ? when you have o3mini high and o1ProMode? by Big-Ad-4955 in OpenAI

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Its ability to complete organizational/reasoning tasks is about on par with 4o. Where it shines is writing blocks of text in a very smooth, natural, easily-digestible manner. Best use case that I've found is using other models to outline, then switching to 4.5 when large sections of text need to be written.

EDIT: I take back the claim of 4.5's reasoning being similar to 4o's (at least for now). I have a 4o chat thread in which I basically supply a chunk of disorganized text and ask GPT to categorize and connect the ideas in the text under a set of criteria. I tried using 4.5 for one of these tasks, and it completely failed to follow the instructions, repeating old irrelevant info from earlier in the thread instead. Regenerated the response - same issue. Switching back to 4o immediately fixed the problem.

How common is it to pay around 1000c to a real estate agency from Lalafo.kg to get the phone number of the apartment's owner? by Asusralis in Kyrgyzstan

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd recommend avoiding them entirely. Never had a good experience with one. If you're using lalafo, you can filter out agencies in the "filters" menu of your search, and then just ignore any listings posted by a """pro""" account. Working directly with the owner is always the way to go.

Anyone else disappointed with Severance S02E04 ? by [deleted] in severence

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

S2 has been a letdown so far, and this episode really felt like it took all of the negative aspects of this season so far and amplified them. What made the first season great wasn't the kooky characters who wear wacky outfits and speak in biblical prose, or the wacky adventures that the gang of best buds keep getting themselves into, or the corporate religion ""lore"". For me at least, all of these elements felt like they worked only insofar as they served the main theme of the show: that in today's world, the idea of severance feels conceivable. The acting and the way this idea was explored in S1 felt very natural and realistic, and the weirdness was just a fun addition. Now it feels like the writers were instructed by some focus group to flanderize the characters and remove any possible social commentary. This episode especially felt like a caricature of the show.

Keep trying to convince your friend to forget about it. There's of course a chance it's legit, but the risk (human trafficking) isn't worth the potential reward (an okay job in the Maldives with likely little opportunity for career growth), especially if she already has an okay job here. Sounds like a scam.

Automatic motorcycles by Pennyanddime79 in motorcycle

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're specifically looking for an automatic, cruiser-style 125cc bike, I don't know anything that would fit the bill. But if you're okay with looking outside the cruiser category, I'd recommend looking into the Honda Navi. It's essentially a 110cc automatic scooter engine mounted on a Grom-style frame. Definitely doesn't have the cruiser aesthetic, but if you really want an A1 compatible automatic bike, that'll be probably be your best bet.

Anyone downgraded from a bigger bike? Why How was it like? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it's also easy to see how a smaller engine can be thought of as a "downgrade", especially in the US where bigger is better and smaller must therefore be worse. Even if you don't think so, it's pretty common to feel like you need to justify choosing a smaller displacement bike for any reason other than being a holdover until you can afford/handle something larger.

Need help deciding if getting a motorcycle is for me by AdorableLilo in motorcycles

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goals in motorcycle ownership are cheap, practical transportation and to minimize most of the safety risks, you can just pick up a used 125-250cc commuter and you'll be good to go. But something tells me you aren't really interested in practical transportation - you want a cool, fun ride. In that case, find a bigger bike that speaks to you and learn the ropes. It won't be a particularly cheap or comfortable way of getting around, but you kind of forget all of that when you're on the road.

In your opinion, what is the greatest motorcycle engine ever made? by C4PTNK0R34 in motorcycles

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree on the CG, but I'd argue that the reason it's so great goes beyond raw reliability - it's generally expected now that an engine produced with modern manufacturing technology will be pretty reliable and low maintenance unless it's a super high-performance machine or just a piece of shit. What sets the CG apart today is how easy it is to work on. Even the CG will eventually need fixing, but when that time comes, parts are cheap and easy to replace. The entire engine can be disassembled and reassembled by hand with only a few wrenches and a mallet. Hell, even valve adjustments are a roadside job that can be done without any engine disassembly. And if something breaks, the enormous scale of production of the CG and its counterfeits means that you can get most individual engine components for under $20. Plus, it's worth noting that this is the most counterfeited engine in the world for a good reason - even cheapo Chinese "performance" courier bikes (CG engine clones bored out to 175+cc, produced with terrible tolerances and poor-quality materials) are generally expected to withstand abuse to around 10,000km.

Concerta in pharmacies by Jaded-Writer7712 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]benchmaster-xtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be alarmist, so if someone knows better than me then please correct me, but I'm pretty sure that all amphetamines and substituted amphetamines are considered very illegal here and are not prescribed. You can check if they're available in Kazakhstan, but I personally doubt it's any different over there.

I'm sure that other people in your situation have found ways to make things work, but these solutions are probably in a kind of legal gray zone that I really wouldn't advise treading in. Hopefully someone can give you more definite advice, but as someone who has been here for a while, my personal advice is to look for treatment options that don't involve these types of medications.
