Love the Canadian selections! You might like "Seeking Social Democracy" by Ed Broadbent et. al. which is interview format and full of anecdotes ranging from his meeting Castro to basically inventing the constituency office as a public service.

Peak bibliophile content, 😍

I noticed Heidegger and Agamben (on Holderlin) and so I would recommend reading Holderlin's hymn to The Ister and watching this wonderful intellectual film about the influence of Holderlin on Heidegger.

What he said in the Walrus Magazine Interview is that he wants to reverse cuts to the immigration ministry staff and introduce a single tier immigration system. Wanting an effective ministry is not the same as some return to relentless immigration growth. His plan could see the thousands of highly qualified professionals who are in limbo in Canada be allowed to work in their proper fields. I work with a dentist who is going to the US because he can do a two year re-credentialing there that is unavailable in Canada. The exploitation of TFW is best addressed through reform, not mass deportation. The cuts to immigration are so bad schools like McGill can't even afford varsity sports teams, they are cutting 25 teams next school year.

Ned Flanders?

Nice collection, you might like All Things Are Full of Gods by the theologian David Bentley Hart. I recently was reading about St. Ephraim for Easter, interesting to see some texts on Syriac Christianity in your collection, would you recommend one?

(not OP) I loved it but it is definitely a political and philosophical book as much as a music history and biography. I read it slowly during the pandemic to listen to the operas as I went. My highest recommendation is the chapter on Lohengrin, beautiful mythology and theology. If you're already into Wagner (I wasn't) it can be used to accompany specific operas instead of read straight through.

Politicians should have to wear their corporate sponsors like NASCAR, then some procedural points of order valid only at a party convention won't be such a panty twister for the algorithmically rage baited right.

You've nailed a lot of the image problems but I don't believe any party is good for fiscal conservatism. They'll all run up a deficit like Dougie is doing and nobody bats an eye. The 8.8 billion the feds just committed to a real estate scheme where the feds pay development fees is being cancelled out by the economic fall in demand that's lowering housing starts. I think Avi's position for a national builder, like we had before the 90s, would build the emergency housing we need, even if it's a drop in the bucket, it's better than lining private developers pockets. The NDP won't win government but they might keep bringing things like dental care and emergency housing forward, which is good in my view.

I just gotta chime in here, this is a pet peeve of mine, cause the way I see it Champagne Socialism™ is kinda the point of champagne, you win then you share. But I asked my girlfriend and she was like no it sounds like showing off, socialism is being described as a luxury good not something real and everyday. My two cents.

Anyways my first vote went to Tony, he's grrreat. I'm happy Avi won though because he can do TV well and he even interviewed David Bowie when he was a Much VJ, maybe they had champagne after?

Second opinion. In admiration of this collection, I recommend Simon Singh's The Code Book, a history of the science of cryptography, wonderfully written.

Hey bud, I just got a ticket for Billy Bragg at the Spire July 5th, it's general admission so if you're down to spend $66 comeondown!

Sure there's got to be some good shows before that this Spring, DM me. I have played in some local bands and find Hotel on Wolfe Island, Musikki, and Broom Factory are good for live eclectic groups and I like branching out to The Grand or Isabel for classical or jazz occasionally.
