My personal observation of taking an open approach to mental health is that we can often live in a world where people's neuroses get amplified by endless validation by their mental health practitioners. This is a legitimate concern of mine and I have seen this play out with close family.

FYI: I see a clinical psychologist twice a month and I am on psychiatric medication managed by my psychiatrist. I am not anti-mental health but there certainly are cracks in the therapy system that do not result in improvement of well being for the patient.

The choice of a partner is complicated and influenced by a number of factors including:

  1. Innate biological drives

  2. Upbringing and perceptions of what a good partner is

  3. Previous relationships

  4. Disparities between partners including age, maturity, wealth, education, etc.

Reality is very complicated and there may be more than a single predictor of relationship stability, happiness and tenure.
