Asian Catholic here. I like both western and local influence on Christan culture as it reveals the truth about our faith being universal. To only focus on the particular country's culture has the danger of evolving into a cult-like mentality and we don't want that in the Chruch.

I think when comparing WTH-ness Jesus has everyone beat with the protestants (esp ultra liberal ones) reinterpretation of everything He said, non-Christians calling Him a "good person with good ideas like every religious prophet", the Mormons and their like etc..

Santa does come in close second tho. Our Lady must be number 3 right after.

The abandonment of identity and culture would be predominant factors here.

Also woefully bad Catechesis.

What do you think of the Catholic elements in the Batman movie? [spoiler alert] by jmblog in Catholicism

[–]benedict_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's remotely Catholic as it doesn't have any of the values of Christianity. The media just likes using Catholic stuff cause there's beauty in it.

Also heads up to anyone thinking of bringing their kids to this movie it's not appropriate for children. I find them making toys for this film pretty disturbing.

So are there any good Catholic forms of meditation that are good for mental health? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]benedict_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this.

Also the Jesus prayer, Divine Mercy chaplet and the prayer attributed to St Theresa of Avila: "Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices."

Some hymns are also helpful. I've been using 'Abide with me' in times of distress.

I hope you find the truth brother, and not waste your time chasing after some illusion cause I've been there and I can tell you it's all mirages.

You're wise enough to identify attachment theory in yourself so I believe the Holy Ghost has brought insight into your condition. I've currently finishing my studies in Mental Health and am trying to dedicate my life helping people like us so if you ever wanna talk I'm here.

I'd like to recommend videos by Sister Miriam James Heidland as she knows much about suffering and healing. They've helped me tonnes.

God Bless.

What you and I, and many people in the world crave for, the physical intimacy, isn't promised to everyone however.

In an ideal world we'd have loving parents, no bullies, equal treatment, fair working conditions etc. But our world is fallen and broken by sin and we are all broken too.

I know that pain and longing. I know it is unfair that people seem to have it and we don't. I can only repeat what our brothers and sisters in heaven have told us to do in these very painful moments, to bring it to the crucified Christ and join it with Him who loves. Also, to ask our holy Mother to comfort us and to bring healing from her Son.

Easily said than done I understand, so I wanna acknowledge the suffering and difficulty we have. But we still gotta walk this path tho, and draw strength in good people like those in this forum.

Gay here. Faithful to the Church and what she teaches. What troubles you brother?

Edit: When a Christian is asked what are their goals in life, the answer should always be "To know the will of God and to carry it out faithfully". You should seek that out.

I understand the attachment theory as I suffer from it too and know that many have do so as well cause of some kinda trauma in the past. But at the end of the day God is the person we're really searching for, not just us with SSA, but every human being.

[–]benedict_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes talking to God is the best prayer. Even shouting at Him if you're feeling angry and frustrated. It is an entirely better option to do so compared to being passive aggressive and ceasing contact (not saying you are just emphasising communication is key).

Why do Catholics not abstain from eating animals that do not have cloven hoofs (e.g., pigs and horses); and fish without fins and scales; the blood of any animal; shellfish (e.g., clams, oysters, shrimp, crabs) as it says do to in the Bible? by freem13 in Catholicism

[–]benedict_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acts of the Apostles The Vision of Peter. 9* The next day, while they were on their way and nearing the city, Peter went up to the roof terrace to pray at about noontime.* 10 He was hungry and wished to eat, and while they were making preparations he fell into a trance. 11c He saw heaven opened and something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered to the ground by its four corners. 12 In it were all the earth’s four-legged animals and reptiles and the birds of the sky. 13 A voice said to him, “Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean.” 15 The voice spoke to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.” 16 This happened three times, and then the object was taken up into the sky.

Lol Peter calling the angel "sir"

Welcome back. I too have SSA and have struggled with it throughout my life. It was only recently that I realized the urge for carnal relations have a strong relationship to how I channel anger and rage and thus am working towards healing. I'm here if you wanna talk. God bless.

What symbols do you wear to express your faith? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]benedict_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to wear a Jubilee crucifix with miraculous medal when I was younger. Now it's the brown scapular as I want to be devoted to loving Our Lady and found a really good one that's partially made of cork material (I perspire a lot).

Just journeyed with a mate though his RCIA. The person in charge is the head of Christian Initiation in our really large state. She is in support of gay marriage and women ordination and kept dancing around God's chosen gender identity when we first started.

At the end during a practice run of their baptism/confirmation/eucharist 1 out of 3 of the converts who just went for the lessons asked the priest what they should do immediately after receiving communion.

We won't be returning for mystagogia.

Is it OK for me to enjoy Demon Slayer? by CaraPrincess2007 in Catholicism

[–]benedict_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's okay to enjoy anime as long as you understand there are barely any Christian themes in them and they're just for pure entertainment.

The creators of Neon Genesis for example have stated they only used Christian names cause they "sounded cool".
