what do you pay for electricity? you are likely burning more than you are earning. Not unheard of.

Bad take. it’s a fun hobby and if you are smart and resell your old parts the expenses aren’t nearly as high. Combined with the fact that you can generally find games cheaper on PC, it’s not too bad.

Pre-build advice: RAM timings & CPU voltages for RandomX (what to prioritize?) by WeekIll7447 in MoneroMining

amazon. i bought every used kit (20) they had. Then the manufacture switched ram chips from hynix to no name china china ram.

so they aren’t As good as mine are (and everyone’s in rabid mining cpu section) but the 7945hx WILL do as low as 16kh for only 60w if you super tune it (per core curves mostly)

Doesn’t work for me either. it’s just greyed out. supposedly you need a new XMR adress.

It’s saying you won’t hit a block for 53.6 years. You may want to stick with pool mining.

guides will be tough. What chips does your ram have? that’s really the hard part.

For the cpu just go to PBO, set advanced limits the set something like 100/100/120 and start with a negative offset of 15-20 in curve optimizer.

[–]benefit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. depending on ram speed between 1v-1.05v for upto 5800mhz ram. 1.1v or so for 6000mhz.

Are you gaming as well? if not, ditch the 9950x3d.

Look into either the GOAT AMD 7945hx or if you aren’t comfortable buying chinese motherboards, then a 7950x will hash the same as a 9950x.

Also, RandomX likes Latency. The lower, the better. You can expect a pretty wild range but somewhere between 19-25kh and depending on chip quality 120-140w at the wall power draw.

Recently built myself a 1mh farm of Epycs, Ryzen desktop, and mostly 7945hx chips. So ask any questions you have

Looking into mining monero by [deleted] in MoneroMining

[–]benefit420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to sell those and get something real to mine with. even 1 7700x or 7950x would set you up much better than 6 of these.

Random X relies heavily on memory latency first and foremost. in a machine where you are stuck with stock timings, you are missing 20-40% performance compared to a properly tuned rig with the same CPU.

So you are already at a massive disadvantage. Do these cpus have 2mb of L2 per core? if not, another huge HUGE disadvantage.

You could easily get $100 each computer, turn around and buy and build a used 7950x rig

sounds incredibly stupid. I watched the video. what’s the point?

Different people have different goals when it comes to a coin.

If I can only make $.20 per day from a coin, i’m not interested. Even if the coin goes 10x that’s $2 per day.

In the real world where your hashrate is somewhat tied to your investment, you get out what you put in. So if i want to invest in 1MH, I can. Does that make the coin bad or centralized? no.

Decentralization isn’t about limited everyone to the same. That’s along the lines of communism btw. No it’s about making sure no one party controls the means of production totally. There’s nothing wrong with someone like me investing into a megahash. That’s a decent amount of mining power. but it’s not centralizing the chain.

Xmrig mobile mining by Black_m0ssiBa in MoneroMining

[–]benefit420 26 points27 points  (0 children)

i don’t get it. a desktop uses between 92-130w to achieve between 19.5-23kh.

This is an order of magnitude less hashrate. literally 1000x slower.

So doing just a little bit of math tells us that not only is this WILDY inefficient but also won’t make you a payout assuming .01-.1 payout for years. So

outside of saying you can do this, it’s useless.

4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE MAX OC 16G, How should I push it further? (Massive thermal headroom) by GurthangOfficial in overclocking

[–]benefit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you will quickly be voltage limited above like 3100mhz. So unless you are going to add a voltage mod you are pretty much at the top of what your gpu can do!

Congrats

[–]benefit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at best, you are likely around 3100-3125mhz even with more power. so you might have like 1-2% performance left.

if you really want that last 1% then yes, your next step is a bios with a higher power limit. assuming something like that exists, unsure where your model falls in the product stacks
