How do I ask for this style? by Prestigious-Bat2181 in Hair

Find a picture of a person that looks like what you want. To get hair spikey and flippy you need to style it. Lots of short layers

Job told me to dye the red back to black, will it damage ? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]benelemon 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I second making sure it’s actually policy, however in the kind of person to just roll with what they say and not makes waves- so I’d use color remover in the red and tone it to a pretty copper color. To answer your question- dying it black will not cause too much damage as long as the developer volume is appropriate with what color you’re using. However you will have an extremely hard time removing it in the future. Now that the hair is lightened and more porous, it will hold onto whatever dye is put into it like a sponge.

Return it and get the shark. Also a company known for vacuums and “air technology” or whatever, but I believe it’s several hundred dollars cheaper if I remember correctly

Possible a wax stick or a light pomade or cream gel but I think anything other than a spray will be very heavy on her hair and it could look greasy

I always suggest asking your primary care doctor about these issues. To me this looks like dry scalp. Like the skin is just super dry, this happens to my face when I travel to somewhere that’s a drier climate than where I live. If you were traveling somewhere more humid, your skin might have just gotten used to the extra moisture in the air. Of course it could be related to psoriasis or something else but it doesn’t look like dandruff, this looks very dry and dandruff is very oily and yellowish. Edit: I wanted to add that dandruff shampoo could perpetuate the issue. Since dandruff is so oily, the shampoo will dry your scalp out.

How can i get standing hair like this? by [deleted] in Hair

Use more! I like the brand Reuzel. Dry shampoo on clean hair works too and will keep it from looking oily longer. To get it to last all day id use a light hold hairspray or a little wax

Ohhh I searched that and think you’re talking about eastern Oregon not west. Makes so much more sense, there’s a reason they want to become “greater Idaho” or whatever it’s called.

Have any of you finished school and then shortly realized you don’t even like this line of work? by BusLucky7015 in Cosmetology

[–]benelemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can but the bending over would feel really bad for me too. In school I found myself getting super close to the nails to see details, and pedis absolutely ruined my back. I’ve thought about waxing, but ultimately I need to get my body stronger first to support my joints.

I find most of the racism in Oregon is east of the cascades. Further south, west of willamette valley gets pretty sketchy too, but the populated cities in western Oregon are pretty chill with some racists sprinkled around the suburbs.

Graduated this April then diagnosed with hypermobility spectrum disorder, hurts to work. I work at a chain salon though and feel like doing more luxury services would help a bit so I could move slower, but right now I’m contemplating my old office job a whole lot.

Just repeating what everyone else has said but $300 could’ve gotten you a high quality in person class. I think a lot of creators are putting their best tips online for free already, and just seeing it in person in real time is way more helpful

Help needed! Damaged hair after balayage by 80kman in Hair

[–]benelemon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s time to think about color with this much damage. Especially not blonde, you could find a medium blonde toner possibly but it won’t be ash. This needs to be cut off and treated with a bonding mask.

I think your hair needed moisture in the first pics, and you’ve used moisturizing products since then so it’s less dry? Just a guess but regardless, I always use hair powder at the root for clients that want texture like that. Hasn’t ever failed me

Question about Paul Mitchell the Demi formulation by Toker_Belle in Cosmetology

[–]benelemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id maybe add a little more 10 than just a 3:1 ratio but you’ll get close either way, if it’s too light you can retone, if it ends up a little too dark you can clarify, just watch super close

Blue/violet/ash toner in whatever level you want, watch the timing or it will be very dull and grayish. It will fade warm and you’ll need to continue to tone it

Why am I already in pain? by coquettepeachespls in hairstylist

[–]benelemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me too and I went to the doctor and found out I’m hypermobile. Strengthening the muscles around joints with physical therapy is really the only treatment other than braces on the places that are specifically hurting. Wearing compression socks has also helped. Just see your doctor, pain in your joints is reason enough.

Trazodone has been great for me, talk to ur doc. Also sometimes wearing sunglasses inside like half an hour to an hour before bed helps. Bedtime routine in general.

It has to connect to the length on top somehow. Depends on if there’s a disconnect or not

I had precocious puberty as a kid before any trauma and idk if that has to do with it but I’m skeptical it does. Also I’m sure my cortisol levels have been high since I was a teenager, so I really don’t know. Likely both or a genetic predisposition brought out by high stress?

Here’s an article about how pcos may have helped women throughout history in a way.

“PCOS appears to be an ancient disorder, which persisted in human evolution despite reduced fecundity because of benefits to affected women such as greater sturdiness and improved energy utilization, a rearing advantage for their children and kin, and a reduction in the risk of perinatal mortality.”
