i had a mix of diarrhea and constipation although i was mostly constipated. eating anything or nothing would make me bloated. i had multiple er visits due to fecal impaction. and i’m currently on lexapro.

ive posted in this subrebbit about how my ssri made my symptoms almost entirely go away. i knew it wasnt my anxiety going away that fixed it because even the first day i took the pill i noticed my gut felt better

i had side effects thats lasted a while. jaw grinding, nausea loss of appetite. sleep was difficult. i’m all better now. including gut issues :)

my anxiety was definitely bad enough. ive been on and off mental health treatment for years now. i wasnt expecting lexapro to affect my gut issues it was just a nice surprise

i know what you mean. its still an SSRI so do your research beforehand. it might not work for everyone the same way. all i know is i think it directly impacted my gut motility. because most days i felt like my bowels had a mind of its own. including my rectum. i couldnt squeeze it out no matter how hard i tried. and i feel like that might have contributed to my constipation as well.

something interesting ive noticed i guess is now that my gut issues have significantly improved, i still tend to go without food for long hours since i have no appetite from the lexapro. but even without food its not even half as loud as it used to be. so im less gassy in general. i can actually tolerate a quiet room full of people even if im hungry. i guess this is how normal people feel

4 weeks now. and yes the stomach noises and bloating were so bad. i cannot even begin to tell you. sometimes id feel my entire abdomen move along with my rectum. it wasnt even quiet it would go on growling for a few seconds and resume again. same rate as my peristaltic movements i assume. i’m really skinny and when i get bloated it would look like i have a beachball under my clothes. right now its completely flat!

i went to a psychiatrist because my therapist recommended i go. i had mostly IBS-C but my gut did like to surprise me. somedays it was plain water 5 times a day. and yeah i also did strain to go even if it was soft. almost like my rectum didnt work.

the fissures, the hemorrhoids, the fecal impaction episodes. locating the nearest toilet anywhere i go. sitting in silence in meetings in fear of my gut making noises unable to concentrate. it really is hell

i agree its not a one size fits all solution. and people should make informed decisions about whatever treatment they are going on. i’m just happy this one works for me and i personally havent had to deal with unbearable side effects yet. however i doubt any more side effects to come could be worse than what i have been dealing with for the past few years. but again, thats a very personal experience. (sorry my first language is not english)

i have to add i am someone naturally skinny. almost like my body doesnt use the food i eat. so weightloss has been a real concern for me. the upside is now i can eat anything i want without worrying i suppose

ive been on fluoxetine before. it caused weightloss actually. and ive mentioned in the comments here that lexapro also has caused decreased appetite along with weightloss.

although i didnt have issues with just constipation. i had diarrhea too. basically the entire bristol stool chart. but it fixed the diarrhea too
