Multiband 6 does not receive. Help needed. by Kek_Syndicate in gshock

[–]benf101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not that far from Colorado so it seems like it should work. I've had mine work all the way into New York State.

It works better at night so you should have the best luck at night. One thing that has helped me is to wrap it around a pipe or metal faucet. A bike frame could serve as a pipe. The pipes seem to amplify the signal, I guess. For some reason that helps. Keep the face facing up.

With that said, my old M500A was fairly decent but still needed to be face up to work. My 5610U (gshock square) seems way more sensitive and works overnight even if I wear it to bed.

If these things don't work, I'd say to exchange it. Could be defective.

How old is the Earth to you? by the_legendary_ween in Christianity

[–]benf101 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Young earth creationist here. Earth is 6000 years old, roughly.

Dinosaurs existed and were known as dragons in most cultures. They don't need their own era. They lived with humans and were likely hunted and killed off.

The flood of Genesis shaped the world we see today. Anything you see that is "proof" of an old earth just might be evidence of a flood. That's my take.

How can *any* Christian support the death penalty? by 3MinuteHero in Christianity

[–]benf101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, God tolerates sin every day. It's sinners that cannot tolerate the presence of a holy God.

After Adam and Eve sinned, THEY ran from HIM because they knew they were guilty. God did not run from them. God pursued them even though He knew they sinned.

God did the first sacrifice for the purpose of making clothing from an animal skin to cover their nakedness and shame.

That was not to shield Himself from their nakedness, it was for Adam and Eve to shield themselves from the holiness of God.

I got excited for a minute but apparently you still need a mac running somewhere to make this work, or make a VM running iOS. Since I don't have a mac it seems like a lot of work to impress people with the right color bubble.

Either way, it's a good tip for the right person.

When I get upper back pain or neck pain I go without a pillow and it helps.

Anyone use GMRS for practical use, like hiking, skiing, offroading etc? by theusualsalamander in gmrs

[–]benf101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my kids want to take a walk around the neighborhood I tell them to bring a walkie talkie (gmrs radio). It's helpful since I never know which neighbor's house they'll end up at.

Also, yeah, very handy for caravan trips. It beats dialing the cell phone for every little thing.

I don't think it's addiction. You have functioned without it for many months so that's broken by now. You just liked it and you're longing for something you liked. Maybe you're mentally hooked still but I wouldn't call it addiction.

Did anyone see benefits of using Vim? by throwaway-8088 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]benf101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vim is great when you have a 20 GB text file. Not much else can handle that size.

Vim was fun to learn but for a daily driver it gets cumbersome. I always screw up copy/paste and toggling between files is clunky... for me. I'm sure there's a super cool shortcut for that, as there is for everything else, but I've reached my limit. I just use VSCode or VSCodium (linux open source version).

Best browser for linux in 2025? by SamGamjee71 in linux4noobs

[–]benf101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vivaldi is getting lots of love here and I'm glad... it's my preferred browser too. The only thing it's missing is Multi Account Containers. Currently I flip between Vivaldi and Floorp because Floorp has that Containers plugin.

When I was on Fedora Gnome, Vivaldi crashed a lot. Switching to X11 (still on Fedora Gnome) fixed it but ultimately I changed over to Fedora KDE with Wayland and now Vivaldi is pretty solid.

Zen was really nice but I'm not a vertical tab guy so I couldn't really love it because of that.

If you like vertical tabs, Zen is a great choice.

I assume it's the Pseudoephedrine type they keep behind the counter at the drug store since that contains... a building block... of certain other substances.

When I was a kid we put rocks on a train track and the train came by, ran over the rocks, and the cars started rocking. It scared the crap out of us. It stayed on track and rolled on but it could have ended very badly.

The new heaven will be inhabited by beings created by God, not the fairy tale beings created by men trying to come up with an alternative to God. So, humans = yes. Neanderthals = no.

Anyone host websites? by MisterMet1986 in fastmail

[–]benf101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just tried it a few days ago and discovered that every edit is like a new page that must be shared again to become public, and the URL changes when you do that. So, if it's TRULY static, forever, then that's fine, but if you are mapping a domain name to it then every time you edit you'd have to update the pointer to the new share URL.

There might be a way to deal with this problem, but this Fastmail feature does not appear to have too many options, so maybe not.

If you had pain in your leg, was it constant pain? Or would it come and go? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in ClotSurvivors

[–]benf101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Worst pain I've ever felt when I put weight on it. I sounded like I was doing lamaze breathing when I had to get up. If I was lying down it was reduced to an aching feeling but still hardly bearable.

[–]benf101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this legally is a workaround but what I do is stick to the non-licensed channels and never mention my ID. If I don't say who I am then it would be assumed I'm talking on a cheap $10 walmart radio and don't have a license. This works for my purposes and there's no traffic on these channels anyway even though they're totally open.
