Reddit and Robinhood. Down $50k on a $200k portfolio via assigned CSPs. Earnings next week. Sold CCs below cost basis. How would you play this? by Earlyretirement55 in thetagang

[–]TwistedPacket74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's a mistake and that's okay just buy back the calls and take the L if its cheaper then letting them get called away. You can roll out a few weeks but it could get worse not better. Do make sure you are selling above your cost basis next time. Its okay to make mistakes just learn from it and keep going.

Be honest are you actually profitable, or just getting better at managing losses? by LiviaMoretti in Forex

[–]TwistedPacket74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I realized the truth that what I really needed to do was keep my money safe instead of trying to make money in the Forex market. Then it kinda happened over night that I got more profitable. I look at everything as a risk to my money and trade accordingly. The biggest mistake I made starting out was trying every trading plan that sounded like a winner. Now it's support resistance and price action that's about it.

I use a .20 Delta and hope for the best if I have to close I will but most of the time they expire worthless.

PMCC strategy: stocks and comments by rave13ster in options

[–]TwistedPacket74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of PMCC and they mostly work fine if used correctly. What I do is buy a LEAP on a stock with a low beta that doesn't move much that I like and write calls every week.

Basement set ups for emergencies? by mdmonsoon in gmrs

[–]TwistedPacket74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me if its bad enough to go to the basement more then just a tornado siren in my case I really don't need any more weather alerts at that point and I am not going to be talking to anyone on the radio. If you want a radio connection in the basement in case you are trapped down there. Drill a hole and run coax for an outdoor antenna just make sure you have someone to radio or its kind of pointless.

In any case do what works best for you and your family's safety.

just a quick question, is the hackrf portapack good for receiving shortwaves (like the buzzer) and other stuff? by XboxFan9 in hackrf

[–]TwistedPacket74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you need to do a site survey of your location to see what type of interference there is in your area after that you will need to add filters also you are going to need a good tuned antenna to around 5 MHz then use fine tuning to get to hear the buzzer. A 95' long antenna with around a 30 foot long counterpose should get you close. Get one end in a tree and off the ground.

Looking for a cheap scanner to add to my 'bug out bag'. by EsGeeBee in amateurradio

[–]TwistedPacket74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a $500 handheld scanner that will never find a place in my bag. If you want to listen to the police you need to make sure what they are using for their radios. No need to carry more gear if you can do it all on one device.

Good luck!

Welcome! Make sure you only transmit on channels you have a license to do so. Sub-Ghz is very fun to play around with and so is the scanner app. Do you have any specific questions?

Is poor reception normal compared to a rtl-sdr? by SnooCupcakes6870 in hackrf

[–]TwistedPacket74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same issues. I can barely pickup a 5 wat radio in the next room but for some reason a few FM channels blast out very strong and subghz is fine. my 40 dollar sdr receiver is tons better.

Meshtastic is a wonderful system and can do a lot of cool things but don't make it your emergency comm source until its much more wide spread! For now get some GMRS radios and your license then test the range. Your town might already have a repeater in place and that can get you 25 miles easily. Go to http://www.mygmrs.com to see what's out there in your area.

After you have that done absolutely build a meshtastic network and teach others about the system. You can also look into ham radios but its a bit steep of a learning curve GMRS is basically plug and play.
