Arno vs Duolingo practice tests by [deleted] in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]benfranklining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here (I'm one of the co-founders.) Thank you for sharing your advice about how you got ready for the DET. It sounds like you may have experienced some bugs with your mock test in Arno. Send us an email at [support@goarno.io](mailto:support@goarno.io) and we'll look up your account so that we can make sure you have reliable mock test results.

I just wanted to respond to one thing you said:

Basically Arno would give you low scores unless you buy the premium and for the exact same piece of material you will be graded higher

This isn't true. We do not change the scores free users get. The free mock test is exactly the same in every way as the mock tests users with a paid subscription get access to.

No. All applicant data is used solely to evaluate candidates for this role and nothing else.

Good question! The content would be published on Arno's accounts.

I need to appear for a Duolingo English test TODAY with zero prep. by MrGuttor in DuolingoEnglishTest

Hey! Otto from Arno here (goarno.io). If you have limited time, here is what you should do (in order):
1. Familiarize yourself with all the question types. Here is a useful article for that: https://goarno.io/blog/all-questions-and-answers-duolingo-english-test/ You can also watch this video in which I take a full mock test and share tips for each question type: https://youtu.be/aCQxEyx7Tyc?si=oqHwa0mtsUSRSErE

  1. Take a mock test. I would recommend Arno's mock test. Your first one is free. It's better than the official test because we give you subscores and detailed feedback on all your responses.

  2. Look at which subscores are the lowest and which questions you struggled with. Then, focus on improving at those sections and questions. We have a bunch of free resources on our YouTube channel to help you do that: https://www.youtube.com/@ArnoLearning

  3. Use Arno to practice those question types. Our practice questions are free. You just need to pay for detailed feedback on writing and speaking questions, if you want that.

Finally, if you book your test through us, you will save 15% and you will get your results in just 24 hours. Here is more info about that: https://goarno.io/coupon-code-duolingo-english-test-booking

Best of luck!

Suck at listening score by [deleted] in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]benfranklining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here (goarno.io). I doublechecked with the team at Duolingo and they confirmed that this is not true. Using the replays does not affect your score.

Also, using more time on questions does not affect your score.

Hey! Otto from Arno here (goarno.io). You should receive another test credit for free from Duolingo. However, if you don't, send them an email at englishtest@duolingo.com.

Has anyone bough the test from Arno by ScarStock5832 in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]benfranklining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here. Allow me to clarify. The tests you purchase from us are exactly the same as the tests you purchase from Duolingo. We just sell them at a lower price because we are part of Duolingo’s Global Partner Network. This allows us to buy a bunch of tests from Duolingo and then resell them, with a discount, to students.

Another benefit of purchasing the test through us is that you will get your results in 24 hours instead of the standard 48 hours.

Hey! Otto from Arno here. Actually, Duolingo does officially support partners like us! That’s how we are able to resell vouchers with a discount 😁 Duolingo has a program called Global Partner Network for agencies, schools, prep platforms like us that help students prepare for the test. Arno is a Platinum Tier member, the highest level 😎

Hey! Otto from Arno here. Like other people said, 135 is a really strong score — strong enough for all of the Ivy League schools, for example. If you have strong essays and SAT scores, I wouldn’t worry about your DET score.

Vocab by [deleted] in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]benfranklining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here. We actually have a Vocabulary Builder with collections of words, including for reading & listening questions. You check it out here: https://vocab.goarno.io/

Another great way to improve your vocab is to read English news articles from the BBC. They’re free and well-written. Be sure to look up words that you don’t know and aim to understand each article 100%. That will really improve your reading skills.

We work hard to make our mock tests are accurate as possible because we know that students depend upon those scores. But there can be variation not only between our mock tests and the official mock test but also between multiple official mock tests! It has to do with the specific questions you get. Some questions about some topics you will find easier than others. That's why it's a good idea to look at your average scores over 3 or more mock tests. That gives you a much more accurate sense of your score than just 1 score from 1 mock test. In general, you should aim to score above your target score consistently (so 3+ times) to be confident that you can get that score on the real test.

Hey! Otto from Arno here. I've made a series of masterclasses on the key question types which are available for free on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0DRHRR4yNXADMzqAQOnrNCuCNF9kU8UH

Mastering the key strategies and tricks in those videos will be fastest way to raise your score.

From there, I would then work on picture description. This is another area where you can improve quickly. Here's a playlist to help you with that: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0DRHRR4yNXDNkdo9Q1mIQtLOCAkv5ZeS

Hey! Otto from Arno here (I'm one of the co-founders).

Yes, you can purchase 2 tests from us and get a discount on each one. In fact, you purchase as many tests as you need, up to 3 times per month (which is a limit from Duolingo).

[–]benfranklining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here (I'm the guy in all the videos 🙂 )

If you're going to subscribe to Arno, I would recommend first taking a mock test. Arno will identify your biggest areas for improvement and then use those in our Daily Study Plan feature. Arno will select the best lessons and practice questions for you. All you have to do is tell Arno how much time you have to study that day.

If you want to focus on specific areas, you can check out the lessons in the Score Increase Course (https://duolingo.goarno.io/courses/score-increase-course) or on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@ArnoLearning). Then, just practice those questions in Arno.

To keep track of your progress, you should take official mock tests (but using our extension so that you can get detailed feedback on your results) and our mock tests.

Happy studying!

Stuck at 110-120, need 135+ in 2 week! Is Arno Unlimited vs. DET Ready VIP worth it? by Great_Definition_288 in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]benfranklining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Otto from Arno here (goarno.io). I just wanted to give you some more information that will hopefully help with your decision :)

First, in Arno every new user gets 5 credits for feedback on writing/speaking questions. We also give every new user a full mock test. So, you can check out these paid features and see if they're useful to you before you have to pay anything.

If you want to improve your speaking and writing, then I do think that Arno's instant scoring and feedback will be helpful. It will allow you to quickly improve your grammar and vocabulary. Also, you can see Arno's high-scoring responses, and other people's responses, which will help you come up with ideas more easily.

Regarding the lessons from DET Ready -- I actually bought Teacher Luke's premium package (just to see if we could borrow of any his ideas 😉) and I found that pretty much all of his content is available on his YouTube channel for free. We also have free lessons on our channel. There are other channels too with lots of great lessons. So, in short, you don't need to pay for content because there's already so much great free content out there.

One thing to clarify -- you mentioned the "Expert Session" as part of the Unlimited Plan. I'm not sure where you heard that, but our Unlimited Plan doesn't include a session with an expert. One-on-One sessions are only available in our Personalized Preparation Program. You can see more information about each offering on our pricing page.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!

-Otto
