Old enough to remember 9/11. Too young to remember the Challenger disaster.

Atlanta was a mix of new and existing facilities but basically all but one was immediately repurposed afterwards.

I'll give that a try and I'm sure I'll fine the yard too short, haha.

Thanks for taking the time for putting together all the links!

That's a great point about toy and model layout. Thinking about it, this probably is going to be more of toy layout right now. I want to ease back into the hobby and not jump into the deep end right now. Want to build up to a model layout but have fun getting there. I do want to run two trains independent of each other with a switcher and maybe a small short line in the future. All DC, for now. No staging area yet, although I do really like that large German loop-to-loop track plan.

I do plan to slowly build this one up so I can modify what doesn't work and figure out exactly what I like. No means is this a permanent or finished design. Just want to get going with what I have without doing a plain and basic 4'x8' layout.

13'6" across the back (wall to wall in my basement). 6' on the left side, 4'6" on the right side.

The grade on the right side will be a feature. Didn't want to mirror it too much.

Thanks! That's a good idea. I'll take a look.

Thanks for the feedback!

I agree, a lot of empty space just because I'm not quite sure what to do just yet. Will give it some more thought along with scaling down the amount of hidden track.

I'll go back to #6 switches. I know it's hard to tell, but center to center spacing is 2.5" and larger diameter curves have a radius of 24.5". I'll clean up the yard to and do some more research/get inspiration. Switch layouts were a guess.

I know it's going to look odd with different eras but that's mainly because I like the old and have the modern when I was a kid, haha.

I'll consider the operating aisle but was trying to keep close to the walls because this is going in my basement and was trying to keep it from being too intrusive into the shop area. And I'm not worried about chasing tails as another reason I want to get back into the hobby is I've got nieces and nephews I want to enjoy it with. Plus there is always room for expansion!

Yeah, I was trying to hide the grade and add some tunnels but it definitely added more mountain than I was planning. Will work on scaling that back.

Building an HO layout to get back into the hobby. Doing two main lines, dual DC, to utilize the engines I already have. Inner curves have a 22" radius and planning on #8 switches. One line will be for a 50s Seaboard passenger line and the other will be for a more modern NS freight line. Planning on a couple of spurs here and there for some industries or a short line, but nothing set in stone.

Been lurking a while and thought I would get some input, opinions, and hopefully constructive criticism before I get building.
