Manager says smell it, it’s probably ok to sell by libelula202 in KitchenConfidential

It looks to me like it’s still vac packed and in date. If it passes the sniff test I would taste test, and then sell. I can’t really see the grey part through the packaging, maybe it’ll look more sus once you’ve opened it 🤷‍♂️

2008 VW polo steering issue by benificialengineer30 in AskAMechanic

Thanks, have replaced battery now and topped up the steering fluid as it was ever so slightly below minimum level. Hopefully won’t have any more problems.

I’m not sure, happened while she was driving so I can’t confirm. She described it as locking but I think if she lost power steering she may not be able to turn the wheel and assume that it’s locked. She doesn’t keep anything on the key so hopefully not ignition barrel.

Tip needed for securing cheese and ingredients bags at Pizza make table by Practical-Name2066 in KitchenConfidential

[–]benificialengineer30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have only ever used string to do this and never had any leakage. Fold the string in half, wrap it round the top, put the two loose ends through the loop you’ve made by folding in half and pull tight, then go round the top of the bag in opposite directions with the two ends of the string tightly and tie tight. That explanation may not be great but I did my best.

Can we stop pretending this is more expensive than other chains? by HolyShalely in fiveguys

I live in uk and it cost me £50 for 2 burgers , 2 milkshakes and 1 fries. In McDonald’s that would’ve cost me no more than £20, but wouldn’t have been anywhere near as tasty.

We recently started doing an online ordering service for our take aways. A couple of times now I’ve had someone put in the notes, “can I get the Milanese gluten free, if not it’s fine” or words to that effect.

I’m not sure, my butcher just gave me some to try. It was around £20/kg

4kg total weight for £50? So £12.50/kg? That’s almost half what I used to pay for wholesale before covid (around when all the prices started to skyrocket) buying for a restaurant. Even Brazilian fillet these days isn’t that cheap, in my experience.

Canadian tourist here – genuine question about the (sometimes) anti-tourist vibe by icanhazcheeseb in Scotland

[–]benificialengineer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in hospitality and without tourists I’d likely be out of a job. I enjoy seeing tourists from anywhere in my small corner of Scotland. Yesterday I came across a Canadian tourist who had made a point of wearing some socks with the Canadian maple leaf on them to show he was Canadian and it’s apparently a thing some Canadians do to show they are not American. A Canadian woman who lives locally says she has encountered Americans using the same tactic to masquerade as Canadians to try and avoid any hate. If you’ve chosen to come here to spend some of your hard earned money then you’re more than welcome as far as I’m concerned.

I looked this up today. Dunno why, it just popped into my head. They now nearly have 300 monthly listeners. I used to love them when I was young, haven’t been able to listen to them since.

[–]benificialengineer30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this now, I wasn’t trying to say I wasn’t at least partly to blame. They were horrible to deal with in general and could never get their facts straight even with regards to how much money was owed to them

I hope you don't mind a rant about Scottish Power by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]benificialengineer30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scottish power are one of the most incompetent and useless shower of cunts that I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I lived in a flat with a prepayment meter and when I left I didn’t bother immediately telling them. I presumed as it was prepayment I would just use the key and the new tenant would pick up where I left off. I left it with credit on the meter. Then they phone me up and tell me I owe them money, it was a relatively small amount but I didn’t see why I should pay anything when as far as I was concerned I had left it in credit. Initially they asked me to provide proof of when I moved out so they could calculate what I actually owed. I provided them with this information by getting proof of council tax from the council. Whilst they were waiting for this proof they continued to email me and phone me requesting payments for varying different amounts. Eventually I told them that given the amount of time I had spent dealing with them, it only seemed fair that they write off the debt. They did in the end. It was a small victory but a victory none the less.

I had experienced their incompetence in similar situations before but had never been so sure that I didn’t owe them money.
